It turns out the Bourne movies aren’t over! The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner (as new character, Aaron Cross), is currently being filmed as the fourth movie in the Bourne “series.” While Matt Damon will always have my heart, I will admit that Jeremy definitely has his moments of hotness. I’m a bit upset that Matt won’t be reprising his role as Jason Bourne, but I’m still hopeful that Jeremy will do a good job as Aaron Cross. I think the real debate is going to come down to which of these leading men makes the hottest Bourne star.

The Emmys are tonight, which means hot TV actors in tuxedos. I don’t really care who wins any of the awards, I just care that Jon Hamm gets more camera time than Ed O’Neill. This year, tons of swoon-worthy guys are nominated for awards, which means we will be glued to our TVs even if the show lasts 10 hours.

In The Adjustment Bureau, Matt Damon plays David Norris, a politician who falls for a dancer (played by Emily Blunt). Norris accidentally discovers that the world is run by a group whose job it is to keep everyone on their own life path; this “Adjustment Bureau” manages everyone’s fate. The Bureau tells him that he must stay away from his love interest or there will be dire consequences. It’s an enjoyable romance-action-adventure with some science fiction-y/fantasy aspects.

I find it hard to not enjoy Matt Damon’s movies; he’s honestly one of my favorite actors of our time. Although sometimes it is hard to watch him without getting “I’m F*cking Matt Damon” stuck in my head… (Just like I can’t watch Mark Wahlberg without thinking, “Say hi to your mother for me.”) But, I digress. He’s great and very believable as an optimistic politician. In fact, if Matt Damon actually did run for president, I probably would vote for him. As for his co-star, I don’t usually find myself overly impressed with Emily Blunt, but she was surprisingly likeable in this film as well.

The real show stealer, though, was Anthony Mackie who plays Harry, an Adjustment Bureau member who takes a particular interest in David Norris. His has the same stoic quality of all of the Bureau members, but he acts with his eyes to set him apart from the others. He is completely mesmerizing. And it’s saying a lot that he rivals Matt Damon for attention, just saying.

The Adjustment Bureau is surprisingly unique for a contemporary movie. It has its corny parts, but the film is cautious not to overwhelm its audience with cheesiness. There are religious undertones, but they are relatively subtle, which leaves the viewer to decide what to take away from the film. There are also a couple of sly references to global warming, which make a point but it doesn’t come across as propaganda. Although it would be nice if all of our politicians took such an interest in solar panels…

It drags at times; honestly, I think they could have cut out ten minutes or so. It is an interesting genre blend, as I mentioned, which sometimes had me questioning what kind of movie I was actually watching. But, that is part of why it’s exciting and unique.

Take a date to see The Adjustment Bureau this weekend if you get a chance. It has a nice blend of romance and action-adventure to keep everyone happy. Plus, it’ll get the conversation going at coffee afterward.

But, all that being said, I loved True Grit.

In True Grit, a fourteen-year-old girl (Hailee Steinfeld) enlists the help of a U.S. Marshal (Jeff Bridges) to avenge her father’s death, with the on-and-off help of a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon). My love for this film probably had everything to do with the Coen brothers’ directing, the acting, and the actual worthwhile message.

Westerns, as I mentioned, can get redundant. I mean, how many times have you seen a Western in which partners are chasing down a criminal on the run in order to get much-needed revenge? But the innovativeness that is the Coen brothers’ directing livens up the classic Western. There are some great shots; I actually lost myself in the beautiful directing sometimes and had to refocus myself on the plot.

The acting was equally as lovely as the directing. The film is getting considerable Oscar buzz; Bridges and Steinfeld should definitely receive nominations for their performances. Bridges, who won Best Actor last year for another excellent performance in Crazy Heart, never ceases to amaze — and his work in True Grit is no exception. He is exactly what he needs to be at every given time, whether that is a complete bad ass, comic relief, or surprisingly considerate. As for fourteen-year-old Steinfeld (she was born in 1996 and already so much cooler than me!), she will definitely be a force to be reckoned with after this, her breakout role. She is completely believable as strong, smart, and articulate Mattie Ross.

And speaking of Steinfeld, she contributes to the amazing message that the film has to offer. And yes, I am referring to a certain girl power angle, but trust me when I say that the film is much more subtle than the Spice Girls when it comes to its moral.

…Now that I think of it, does Steinfeld even know who the Spice Girls are? Because that is an existence I don’t even want to think about.

This Sunday, the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will air at 8 p.m. on ABC! We at CollegeCandy are obviously super excited for all the usual reasons: red carpet fashion, trying to predict the winners (will anything actually beat Avatar?) and of course, an excuse to put on a cocktail dress and drink on a Sunday.

But this year’s Oscar show has even more awesome-ity (yeah, we’re making up new words over here) to be excited about:

1. HOTTIES.
I’ll shamelessly admit that 90% of the reason I watch the Oscars is that hot guys look even hotter in formalwear. This year it seems that a disproportionate amount of hotties are nominated- George Clooney, Colin Firth, Jeremy Renner, Matt Damon…no matter who takes home the awards, I think the night will be a win-win in terms of eye candy.

2. The Best Actress Award
Lots of hype is surrounding this category this year, and rightfully so. Will it be seasoned veteran Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia? Sandra Bullock for playing Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blindside? Or newcomer Gabourey Sidibe for her groundbreaking role in Precious? All of these lovely leading ladies are deserving, so it’ll be a nail-biter to see who takes home the gold.

3. Brangelina
With rumors of a split constantly showing up in the tabloids, it’ll be interesting to see how they appear together on the red carpet. Or if they even show up! Everyone wants to see what Angelina will be wearing (aka how flawless she’ll look), and if Brad is still sporting that fugly facial hair. Most importantly, will they give Ryan Seacrest the interview he missed out on last year?

4. The Hosts
This year, the Oscars will be hosted by funny guy Steve Martin and hot-older-guy Alec Baldwin. Both of whom I have inexplicable crushes on. Since Martin has hosted twice before (and earned an Emmy nom for it!) and Baldwin hasn’t, it’ll be the perfect mix of experience and fresh personality. And honestly, it’s Alec Freakin’ Baldwin; if he brings half of his 30 Rock humor to the stage it will be a very successful show.

5. The Situation?
I know the Academy Awards are a classy event (i.e. it’s not okay to lift up your shirt on the red carpet), but you never know! The Jersey Shore cast has so far been invited to the Grammy’s and New York Fashion Week, both being completely irrelevant to them, so it might not surprise me to see them at the Oscars. I know I’ll be lookin’ out for Snooki’s pouf and a six pack of abs before the show.

And that is exactly what I plan to do on this day, National Sandwich Day. Sit in peace and eat my go-to sandwich: the T.B.M sandwich from Cosi. With only a mere three ingredients, this sandwich somehow speaks to my soul and brightens even the darkest of days (no thanks to you, Daylight Savings Time.) If this sandwich was a man, I’d be rolling around in bed with it right now. Hell, maybe I’ll do it anyway.

My love of sandwiches and my love of men run almost parallel to each other on the mathematical graph of my life, intersecting only at the moment someone lets me eat a sandwich and have sex at the same time. That’s the stuff dreams are made of. And until that time comes, I’ve thought up a few sandwich ideas that bring my two weaknesses together.

The “I Love You, Sandwich” Sandwich: A piece of Paul Rudd in between two slices of Jason Segel with a side of honey mustard. Paul is the tried-and-true turkey to Jason’s hesitant-at-first-but-turns-out-to-be-a-party-in-my-mouth avocado. Unstoppable.

Ocean’s 11-Grain Sandwich: George Clooney and Brad Pitt lying neatly between two pieces of multi-grain bread. Let’s face it. George is getting old, bound to be a little gritty. But Brad balances out the sandwich with his smooth and creamy loins texture. Add a little Matt Damon on top for a little extra pop of flavor.

The Knocked-Up Fat Cat: A large submarine sandwich filled with ingredients such as, but not limited to: French fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, jalapeño poppers, pizza bites, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill. Because who doesn’t get the munchies from time to time? Maybe you can cut it with the Samurai sword you keep in your room.

The Guilty Pleasure Open-Face Melt: Because there’s nothing I like more than Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and whole wheel of cheese.  As much as you would like to just say no in the face of temptation, I’d like to see anyone deny these Gossip Girl stars…. especially if they’re covered in gooey, melted, cheesy goodness.

The Sloppy Jack: Grade-A man meat Jack Black is a hot mess. But we love him anyway. It’s obviously going to splatter all over the crotch of your pants, but no one ever cries over spilt Jack Black. I want my Manwich, please!

We all love ogling hot celebs, but ogling hot AND smart celebs is even better! Believe it or not, many Hollywood stars have both the looks and the brains, whether they attended an Ivy League college or are involved in worldwide social activism.

John Krasinski

We all love Jim Halpert from The Office. He is utterly adorable and clearly too smart for a desk job selling paper. And, as luck would have it, so is the actor that plays him! John Krasinski studied theater at Brown University, even writing a play as his honors thesis. Not bad, Halpert, not bad at all.

Kal Penn

Don’t let his antics in Harold and Kumar fool you, because Kal Penn is one smart guy. His character on House was written out of the show so that Penn could take up the post of Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison in the Obama administration. Plus, he’s currently pursuing a graduate certificate in international security at Stanford. Stanford? Obama? He’s making me swoon already!

Hugh Grant

We all know that Hugh Grant is a little…well, awkward, in the way that British actors often are. But he’s not just a bumbling, pretty man – he’s a smart, bumbling, pretty man! Grant attended Oxford University on a scholarship, studying literature and even graduating with honors. That explains why he was so wonderful as Edward Ferrars in Sense & Sensibility!

Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart is pretty much the rockstar of late-night satirical news. Despite his height and, well, age, he’s one silver fox! But that’s not all; Stewart attended the college of William and Mary and is the host of The Daily Show, perhaps the only news show that actually forces the viewer to think critically about politics and events in the news. And, admit it, you try to incorporate his musings and witticisms into your political science and government papers. You know you do.

Matt Damon

Matt Damon must’ve had himself in mind when he co-wrote the screenplay of Good Will Hunting with his buddy Ben Affleck. Damon attended Harvard University and studied English there, although before he could graduate, he dropped out to pursue his acting career. We can forgive that, Matt, since your career has been a success…and since you’re so nice to look at…

James Franco

James Franco has a reputation for being – well, a bit too similar to his drug-dealing character in Pineapple Express, although he’s a major hottie even with the greasy hair. But he’s definitely no slacker; just look at his pursuit of higher education. Franco attended UCLA, graduating with a degree in English, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Writing at Columbia University and studying filmmaking at New York University. I have to say, I’m impressed with his ability to juggle two schools as well as a movie career. Now that takes a lot of talent!

Chris Noth

We know Chris Noth for his role as the enigmatic Mr. Big on Sex and the City. And, as you can see, he’s one good-looking man. But did you know that he received an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, acting in twenty-five plays while he was there? One thing’s for sure: this man was born to act. And his ability to make Carrie Bradshaw (and her loyal viewers) swoon is proof of that!

George Clooney

It is only fitting that George Clooney continues to help others after achieving stardom thanks in part to his role on ER in the 90s. Now, he is not only an outspoken liberal and supporter of President Barack Obama, but he is also a leading voice in the campaign to end the genocide in Darfur. Time Magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People for “using star power to illuminate the crisis in Darfur.” Now here’s a man using his celebrity power for good. A lot of celebs can learn a thing or two from him. *cough cough Paris Hilton cough cough*

Will Smith

Newsweek has it right: Will Smith is definitely the most powerful actor on the planet. He’s gorgeous, a successful actor, a musician – and, pretty damn smart! Smith once won a scholarship to MIT, but he turned it down in order to pursue music. Not a bad move, Will. Look at where you are now!

Edward Norton

Edward Norton is the actor’s actor. He is very serious about his craft and reluctant to embrace his celebrity status (as evidenced by the furrowed brow and whisper of “Who’s he?” that is undoubtedly falling from your lips right now). The fact that he studied history at Yale University might explain his uncanny level of dedication and discipline. Norton is a certainly gentleman and a scholar…and quite a good-looking specimen!
