CC’s Favorite Looks From Fashion Week 2008

fashion.jpg

Next to Welcome Week, NY Fashion Week is our favorite week of the year. We may actually like it more, but only because we can remember what happened/don’t feel like total hell at the end of it.What could be better than watching our favorite designers send their newest duds down the runway? And what better way to spend our days than by taking all those delectable looks and figuring out ways to make them our own?

Ooo wee! We get so excited just thinking about it.

This year’s fashion week did not dissapoint. Everyone from Nanette Lepore to The Gap pulled out all the stops and sent some brilliant looks through the tents at Bryant Park. We sifted through every last collection (yes, our lives are sad and horribly difficult) to bring you our favorites of Fashion Week 2008. Sure, actually being at the shows next to Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe would have been glamorous and awesome, but we got to do this in our PJs.

Which is how we roll.

And wouldn’t want it any other way.

The Project Runway Rundown: Keith’s Got a ‘Tude and Stella’s Got a BF Named Ratbones

pr.jpgAs I began watching last night’s episode of Project Runway, all I could think was “I hope Keith doesn’t make anything with those dumb strips of fabric.” Oh, and I hope Stella goes home/gets paint thrown on her by PETA people.

What I should have been asking myself was “which company bought their way into an episode this week?”

The challenge was to take parts and materials from a Saturn Vue Hybrid and make something innovative from them. Because taking car parts and designing an outfit makes a great designer. I am sure Michael Kors learned how to do just that before he hit it big.

The designers went to town filling baskets with all of the materials. Tim reminded them to be extra innovative, which many ignored as they all attempted to use seatbelts in their designs (much like the tablecloth fiasco of episode 1).

Everyone heads back to the workroom where Keith – stressed by his poor performance…the entire season – breaks out the ‘tude. Not only is he rude to the other designers (yelling at them about the sewing machine) and to his model (basically calling her dumb even though it is his shoddy construction that causes the problems), but he talked back to he judges.

Aw HEEEELLL no. Read More »

Eye Candy: Fall 2008 Eyeglass Trends

picture-2.jpg

Save your money and forget Lasik! Glasses are now so chic that those who originally considered themselves “blessed” with perfect vision drool over their blind companions’ stylish eyewear. If you want to embrace this trend but unfortunately have no prescription for glasses, don’t worry! You can destroy your eyesight simply by staring directly at the sun for ten minutes each day.

Ok, so I’m just kidding. But if you wish you could wear glasses, wish no more. This fall, fake reading glasses are all the rage. The Michael Kors fall 2008 runway collection featured several faux eyeglass wearing models who looked HOT (as in sexy librarian hot). Glasses were also spotted in several other runway shows, including Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo.

If you’re going to purchase a pair of glasses (fake or prescription), it is important to find the right shape and color for your face. Generally, you should buy glasses with a shape in contrast to that of your face. If you don’t know what your face shape is, or what shape glasses would flatter your face, click here for a simple guide.

After you’ve figured out what shapes work for you, here are the top five eyeglass trends for fall. Hurry up and buy them before classes start. You want to look smart and studious when you meet your new professors! Read More »

Project Runway Rundown: Go For the Gold!

pr_episode_504_pic01.jpgI have to say – last night’s episode of Project Runway brought back feelings of happier times. Times when the contestants were funny and talented and I actually enjoyed watching.

Yeah, I’ll say it: I laughed out loud. And it felt good.

And, being that last night’s episode was all about the Olympic games, I decided it was only fitting to choose an MVP. And, quite obviously, it is going to Blayne and his many hilaaaarious one-liners:

“Other people go to the gym. I go tanning.”

“The Olympics are HUMUNGOUS! SO big. Thousands and millions and billions of people. Heck yeah I’m going for the Gold!”

“In tanning, I’m an Olympic athlete. It only goes to Bronze medal.”

“I just don’t do the Beatles…Sorry Ringo.”

I know he seems to be melting due to his lack of tanning, but I think it makes me like him more. And he has all those bright 80’s Hyper Color t-shirts; he’ll get through it. Oh, and he is MVP purely for what he says. His design sucked. Read More »

Project Runway Rundown: The Table Cloth Fiasco

austin.jpgWelcome back, Tim Gunn! Oh, and the rest of you Project Runway people. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have my favorite show back. I even went out to Happy Hour and had a few beers (and a giant plate of fries) to celebrate!

I missed the actual premiere, but caught it on my DVR, which is better anyway…no commercials! Anyways, like every year, the first episode kicked off with us meeting the new designers. I could write my feelings about all of them, but instead I will let you learn about them here. It is a lot less biased (because I am a judgemental bitch)…and there also happen to be just too many for me to remember.

After unpacking their things in their lovely new apartments (girls in one, a large group of gay men – and one straight guy who wants EVERYONE to know it by talking about his daughters – in the other) the designers head up to the roof for a party with Tim and Heidi. Champagne is opened, people talk and everyone tries to impress Ms. Heidi Klum.

And then they have their first challenge: The Gristedes challenge. Read More »

Project Runway’s Back… Where is the Excitement?

project runwayWere you pumped with a capital P like I was when Wednesday night rolled around?

Well dear readers, I am sorry for building the excitement.

I had high expectations for the season opener of Project Runway… so imagine my disappointment when the only exciting thing that happened in the entire hour, was when the ‘one with nature/something is a tad bit off’ gal Elisa, got down and dirty with her fabric on the grass. So not what I expected.

Not to mention, the awful dress that she paired with the even more awful boots. Why did Nina and Michael not slam that choice pairing? I could barely keep my dinner down seeing the high slit front with the matchy-matchy-eww boots. You call that fashion?

Rami’s Grey Dress and Christian’s plaid jacket/high waisted skirt were winners in my book (book/blog – whatever) and some of the other contestants had spunk and funk. I have faith they will deliver both the drama and exquisite dresses.

And we must discuss: how bad did you feel for Chris who could barely run across the grass to the tent? I just wanted to hug him and give him a Twinkie for his efforts. Last time I checked, this show was about fashion, so imagine his surprise when he was told to haul-ass across a lawn, obviously thinking to himself, “Is this Project Runway or was I tricked into joining the Biggest Loser?” Read More »
