The 5 Questions We Ask Everyone: Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger

patti1.jpgIf it’s one thing we’ve learned here at CC, it’s that all people are fascinating (Yes, even your econ professor). Let’s face it – people love to glimpse into the lives of other people. Disagree? Then please explain why you’re currently looking at your friend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s photos on Facebook. Or reading about the latest Jessica Simpson dramz in this week’s tabloids. Yeah we thought so.

Fact is we connect to others by learning about them. And everyone has something to share (even if it a really embarassing fart story). So to give you yet another reason to procrastinate, we started ‘The Five Questions We Ask Everyone’ (and five just for that one person) because we know whether we’re schmoozing with an A- list celeb or your local bartender, you’ll be equally entertained.

We’re more than slightly obsessed with Bravo here at CollegeCandy. Stop by our apartment and take a peak at our DVR and you will find the following: The Real Housewives of NY, The Real Housewives of Orange County, Top Chef, Make Me a Supermodel and every freaking episode of The Millionaire Matchmaker. There is something about weird rich guys looking for love that gets us every time. And it helps that the matchmaker herself, Patti Stanger, is honest, hilarious and damn good at what she does.

We were honored (and jumping around the room) when Patti agreed to be part of our 5 questions series. Below she weighs in on the rules of dating, her show and her dreams for the dating scene in college. Read More »

What Does Your Hair Color Say About You?

drewbarrymore.jpg

It’s a battle of the ages. Do blondes really have more fun? Are red heads always saucy? A new study out of London has all the answers, and it seems your hair color reaches far deeper than your roots….

The truth behind those golden locks is that blondes have more going for them than simply being more fun. Those damn blondes also have higher self-esteem and are more likely to go after the things they want in life. Like your boyfriend.

Those bitches.

But don’t worry, brunettes; blondes can’t compete with you in the workplace. The study discovered that brunettes earn higher salaries on average than those blondies. Brunettes are also most likely to be wooed by the world’s richest men (cha ching!).

That is, of course, if a millionaire has never slept with a red head, because, according to the study, those fiesty ladies have the best sex lives of em all.

Which is why I’ve been dying my hair red for years.

Take that, blondes.

The Recession Hates Peanut Butter

rising food costs.jpg“I know you don’t drive in New York…but haven’t you at least noticed the increase in food prices?” my dad asked me. I licked the peanut butter off of the knife in my hand. “Hmm….yeah…come to think about it, my peanut butter WAS more expensive today.”

For my own sanity, I find it necessary to pay as little attention to finances as possible. Money was always at the core of the stress in my family growing up and to combat that irrationally frugal gene in me, I try to swing as far into the ever-indulging and financially irresponsible realm as possible. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t noticed.

The recession HAS affected me. I lost my steady job two months ago. While it was disgustingly easy for me to find new jobs to replace that job, I was still a bit shaken. The supposed millionaires I once relied on for my income no longer could afford me…or most of their staff, for that matter. It seems as though the recession affected them, too, and their ability to buy their dog $30 steaks for lunch (I wish I were kidding about that one).

So I found other jobs and kept on trucking. Metaphorically, of course. If I were actually trucking these days, I’d be even poorer. Read More »
