Put This On Your iPod: The Lonely Island’s Incredibad
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww sh*t! Musical talent doesn’t always have to come in the form of amazing voices. Sometimes great and hilarious lyrics (and an outlet on one of the country’s most well known shows) is all you need. Hearing “I’m On A Boat” this weekend at the bars just reminded me how awesome The Lonely Island is.

Put This on Your iPod: MC Lars’ The Graduate
This week’s artist is someone who’s totally inspired me growing up. While most people spent their college years drinking and dreaming about what they’ll be after they graduate (guilty!), MC Lars was doing something about his dreams.

Put This on Your iPod: She & Him Volume 1
The non-stop Elf marathons last week made me realize just how much I love Zooey Deschanel movies. She’s just so…cute! She also happens to be multi-talented.

Let it Rock: Same Thing, Different Album
I often ignore live and “best of” albums. Even from artists I love. What’s the point, right? I have all their music already – how many different versions do I need? But this week I decided to live on the edge a little bit and listened to both a live album and a “best of” album. And ZOMG, I’m so happy I did!

Let It Rock: Do You Like Surprises?
The great thing about new music is that you never really know what you’re gonna get. Sorta like life. And a box of chocolates (thanks, Forrest!). Sometimes albums totally and completely surprise you. And sometimes they don’t at all. Sometimes surprises are good, and sometimes they’re a huge letdown. Sometimes all you want is your favorite band just the same as always, and sometimes a little change makes them all the better.

Let It Rock: Music Makes Me Happy
All the artists this week make me happy. Even when the songs are sad, I’m happy. And I think that’s a sign of a truly great artist; they can sing about the saddest things in love and still put a smile on my face. And sometimes you just need music to comfort you and make you feel good. Like during midterms after spending 6 straight hours at the library and you’re only a third of the way through your reading.

Let It Rock: More Like, Let Me Down
Wow, this week was a bit of a bummer. So much anticipation and a whole lot of disappointment. You’re probably thinking I deserve it. After all, I got my hopes all up about Mariah Carey and Selena Gomez, so what did I really deserve, right?

Let It Rock: Flashback!
I feel like I’m having a major flashback this week. Like Wayne and Garth are running by me in my bedroom waving their hands in the air screaming “Do do do do. Do do do do.” And then everything gets all jumbled and I’m ten years younger and wearing something completely ridiculous.

Let It Rock: They’re Back!
None of the artists with new releases are new to me this week. I’ve loved them all in the past and now I’m coming back for more. Actually, they’re coming back to give me more and I’m taking it all with wide open arms. And I’m pretty psyched to hear some new stuff from some of my old favorites. It makes me feel at home and right where I belong. I’m so happy to have my old friends back again!

Let It Rock: Something Old, Something New, Something Blue
My sister is getting married and I’ve had weddings on the brain, so this week I’m dedicating this review to her and doin’ the something old, something new, and something blue routine. It doesn’t just apply to brides, you know. I didn’t borrow any of my music this week (I’m not good at giving back), so I had to leave that one out.

Let It Rock: Girls Rock!
You know, boys aren’t the only ones who get to rock every week. In fact, this week no boys rocked at all; it was all about the ladies. I was excited to see three very special lady musicians coming out with new albums this week. They are all women I really like and respect and am genuinely excited to hear what they’ve got.

Let It Rock: Pleasant Surprises
This week’s new releases left me pleasantly surprised. From an album by an artist I had never heard of, to one I thought I knew very well, to one I resisted listening to for oh so long. Sometimes you need to open up a bit and take a few risks in order to find joy, and that goes for music, too.
-
Let It Rock: Sometimes I Surprise Myself
This week might be the most random mix of reviews ever. Seriously, ever. I even surprised myself a bit. I was ready to love who I already loved and hate who I wanted to hate, but that’s not at all what happened. The one album I was most excited for fell flat. And the one I barely even wanted to listen to, well, I kinda liked.
-
Let It Rock: Loving The Men
This week was all about men and, what can I say? I love me some men. With guitars. Who make good music. (That last one is key.) Yup, I had a big, beautiful music orgy this week and I just want more. Bring on the boys!

Let It Rock: It’s About Time
Do you ever feel like you’ve heard so much about an artist that you don’t even bother to listen to them? Maybe it’s just that I like to discover music on my own, but if someone over-talks a band or a musician, I sometimes feel like I know them and don’t take the time to listen to them.

Let It Rock: Songs of the Summer
Call me crazy, but I truly believe you can put a season label on most albums. I mean, think about it – certain songs are best for snuggling under lots of blankets during a snowstorm. And some songs are just perfect for sitting in the sun or cruising with the top down (if you happen to be so lucky to own a car in which the top can come down).
