Fashion Porn: Doin’ it in Plaid

Ladies, it’s time to embrace the plaid.

OK, before you former uniform-wearing girls get all “I spent the last 12 years of my life in plaid, why on Earth would I wear it once I can finally pick my own clothes each day?!” let me explain. Plaid is so. much. more. than the pattern of choice for schoolgirl kilts; it’s classic, it’s versatile and it’s probably one of the easiest ways to incorporate a multicolored pattern into your wardrobe.

Plaid is one of the 10 Modern Pieces Every Girl Should Own and the plaid shirt has become a uniform for both male and female college students.  It’s easy to wear with jeans, super comfy, and looks good even when it’s been balled up on your floor and you only have 10 minutes to make it to class.  It’s also been super popular for a few years, and appears to have major staying power.  If the plaid shirt isn’t your thing, or you want other ways to incorporate your new favorite pattern into your wardrobe, there are lots of coats, bottoms and accessories out there for you! And each one is cuter than the other.

Another bonus about plaid?  If you’re ever in a bind about what to wear to an ‘I love the ’90s’ party, a plaid shirt is your best bet… Take that, solids! Read More »

Fall 2010 Fashion Week All-Stars

Seeing as the Olympics are being held on my home soil, I should be paying closer attention. But last week I was distracted by my real love: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Though I’m craving spring clothes more than anything else right now, NYFW kept me on the edge of my seat as I excitedly began planning next fall’s outfits.

As always, there were a lot of amazing collections during Fashion Week, but there were five designer gold medalists that really blew the rest away. Their designs were sexy, sleek and wearable…. and assuming I somehow make $1 million between now and September, I will be grabbing every last one of their pieces. Read More »

The 5 Hottest Trends from New York Fashion Week

fashion trends

Fashion Week, a sort-of welcome week for the rich and stylish, has come to an end. Come tomorrow, a construction crew will be taking the tents at Bryant Park down, models will hop on planes to London and editors will finally get more than three hours of sleep per night. This week’s had it all: appearances by D-List Celebrities (hello, Kelly Bensimon,) crazy parties (Alexander Wang rented out a gas station) and clothes, clothes, clothes. Ready to stock your closet for spring?

Here are the top trends for Spring 2010: Read More »

Emmy Fashion 2008 – The Best of the Best

emmy-statue.jpgThere is nothing better than a Sunday evening with french fries, Franzia and fashion. The Emmy Awards are on right now and they are…meh. The opening scene sorta blew (except for Heidi Klum’s sparkly unitard…that she looked HOT in), the rest is a bit boring, and my Franzia hangover is already kicking in.

But the red carpet fashion was some of the best I’ve seen in years. Seriously, I can’t even think of one dress that I didn’t totally love. Well, maybe one, but that is for a whole other post.

As I walked past a mirror on my way to the bathroom and caught my reflection – sorority butt pants, a stained t-shirt and super greasy hair – I couldn’t help but imagine what I would look like in any of the following gowns.

Not that I will ever walk a red carpet…or get to wear a Nanette Lepore gown…or drink any wine that doesn’t come in a box, but a girl can dream.

CC’s Favorite Looks From Fashion Week 2008

fashion.jpg

Next to Welcome Week, NY Fashion Week is our favorite week of the year. We may actually like it more, but only because we can remember what happened/don’t feel like total hell at the end of it.What could be better than watching our favorite designers send their newest duds down the runway? And what better way to spend our days than by taking all those delectable looks and figuring out ways to make them our own?

Ooo wee! We get so excited just thinking about it.

This year’s fashion week did not dissapoint. Everyone from Nanette Lepore to The Gap pulled out all the stops and sent some brilliant looks through the tents at Bryant Park. We sifted through every last collection (yes, our lives are sad and horribly difficult) to bring you our favorites of Fashion Week 2008. Sure, actually being at the shows next to Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe would have been glamorous and awesome, but we got to do this in our PJs.

Which is how we roll.

And wouldn’t want it any other way.

Wake Up and Smell the Perfume

perfume

Though I love perfume and wear it every day, I’ve never been a “signature scent” kinda girl. I’ve never been able to find a fragrance that’s unmistakably me, probably because perfume to me is a part of my outfit just like anything else, and I choose it just like I choose between stiletto heels and comfy flats, or red lipstick and nude gloss when I’m getting ready.

But I’ve managed to narrow down my collection to my top four. Here they are:

For dancing ‘til dawn: Nanette Lepore Shanghai Butterfly

With notes of sandalwood, Jasmine, and Siberian musk, Shanghai Butterfly is a really romantic, exotic scent—a perfect accessory to that little black dress. This is probably one of my favorites because it packs such a punch and is so unique—I get comments from men and women almost every time I wear it. Read More »
