Although her case is extreme, I come to find that I also have some contradicting views on feminism. I tend to be pretty adamant about being a strong independent woman, but sometimes I just wanna feel like that innocent damsel in distress. And although it’s comforting to slip into many traditional female roles, I could never abandon the ideals of the 21st century feminist.

Here are some of the contradictions that make me happy to call myself a “semi-femi”:

- I consider myself a feminist, but I don’t hate men and I shave my armpits on the regular.

- I enjoy proving I can do anything without my man’s help, but I do like it when he opens doors for me.

- I plan on taking my husband’s last name when I get married, but I hate it when a couple is labeled Mr. and Mrs. “Husband’s-First-and-Last-Name.” I’m not property!

- I‘m sick of movies and magazines that portray women as nothing more than sex objects, but I could stare at Megan Fox all day long.

- I am a big advocate of a woman’s right to choose (be it about her body, who she votes for, etc.), but I prefer my boyfriend to pick the restaurant or date activity.

- I refuse to be treated like someone’s personal chef or maid, but I can’t deny the satisfaction of a day of cupcake baking in the kitchen or scrubbing that nasty bathtub tile.

- I plan on toiling away for my college degree so I can become an independent career woman, but I do plan on taking a few years off to pop out some tykes.

- I work hard for my paycheck so I can buy my own Starbucks, but it is never unappreciated when he picks up the sushi check.

- I can whoop any guy in foosball, Resident Evil, and go-carts, but I’m a sucker for a bubble bath and a stack of chick-lit.

- I don’t think girls should waste their time in the bathroom trying to look picture perfect to impress a guy, but I still hit the tanning bed, dye my hair and practice eyeshadow techniques.

Why is our purity worth an incalculable amount when people used to sell their souls on Ebay for twenty bucks? (I swear it’s true, Ebay started prohibiting it a few years ago).

Many of my close friends are virgins, but they all have varying reasons for their decision. My friend Jenny, for instance, decided not to have sex until she graduated high school. She wanted to wait out of respect for her parents, in addition to various religious reasons. Once she got to college, however, she found that those reasons weren’t as important to her as they once were.

To many college-aged virgins, it’s not as much about being a virgin as it is to lose it to somebody that they actually care about. Sex in college, for the most part, is pretty casual. If you need any proof just go to a frat party and look around for ten minutes. Most of us would admit though, that we probably wouldn’t engage in one night stand-esque behavior if we hadn’t already been there, done that. Understandably, most girls that haven’t lost their virginity want to experience their first time with somebody they can trust. Not necessarily somebody they’re in love with, but somebody who will respect them and still act civilly to them after the deed is done.

So what is a girl to do if she’s a virgin but wants to have sex? I have friends that just decided to bite the bullet and go for it with a friendly stranger. Some regret it, some don’t; it all depends on their stance on the issue at the time. On the other hand, I know many girls that are waiting it out – not necessarily for marriage or for “the one” but just for a good guy they feel comfortable with. And hey, if you’re saving it for a later point in your life, more power to ya.

One woman, however, takes the idea so lightly (or is so strapped for money), she’s decided to profit from it.

Natalie Dylan, a 22-year-old college graduate from San Diego, California, has decided to auction off her virginity for tuition money for grad school. She has agreed to make a one-night-only appearance at Nevada’s legal Bunny Ranch brothel with the lucky winner of the auction. When the story was first reported back in September on Howard Stern’s radio show, Dylan received bids of over $243,000. She claims that over 10,000 men have put in bids, recently reaching as high as 3.7 million dollars. (Editor’s Note: WTF? I gave that sh*t away for free!)

Although surprised at how far this has gone, she has said: “It’s shocking that men will pay so much for someone’s virginity, which isn’t even prized so highly anymore.” Or maybe it is. I mean, how many girls in their twenties are still holding onto that prized V-Card?

I just have to wonder why someone would be so willing to spend millions of dollars for a night of sex. Most guys I know are scared about taking a woman’s virginity.

Well, looks like she inspired someone because after Johnny No Name blew away the severance pay he was offered when he was let go from his investment banking firm position, he decided to move on to selling his gay virginity online — because whoring yourself out is the must have job of the year.

What is gay virginity, anyway? According to him, it’s a hand job and/or blow job, but absolutely no anal (at least not part of this specific deal), because he’s not gay. Sure, keep telling yourself that.

The real comedy comes when he swears to the bidders he is “HOT” and looks like Adam Brody. Well Johnny, if you’re so “HOT,” maybe you should try to model your way out of debt instead of selling a hand and blow job.

…Just a suggestion.

It may or may not shock you, but where there is one desperate person there is of course a few more; currently Johnny No Name has a high bid of $11,000.

You gotta loves those brothels in Nevada and Rhode Island, thanks to them this is all perfectly legal. I wonder if Mr. No Name’s plane ticket from New York to Nevada is included in the bid?

This is just another piece of evidence that shows how far people will go for money and sex. Would you sell your body to pay off thousands of dollars of student loans?

Natalie Dylan (not the girl’s real name) is a Sacramento State graduate currently seeking a way to pay off her student loans.  Naturally, the 22-year-old brunette thought that letting the highest bidder take her V-Card was the best way to score fast, tax-free cash. Somehow Stern is involved, and because he’s involved, everyone and their mother is buzzing about the morality of the issue.

But we’re not interested in whether God likes it if you let dudes pay you for sex.  We’re interested in what life must be like inside the Moonlight Bunny Ranch.  Do prostitutes really like their job?  Does it ever get…like…tiring?  Are they happy?  Damaged?  And what about the guys who go there?

A few years ago, 20/20 did a report on the Moonlight Ranch, and we were able to find a clip where a lot of the girls spoke about their future plans, and why they were legal prostitutes in the first place.  What’s interesting is that even though none of the women seem out and out unhappy, there’s a distinct hardness to everyone. I’m here because I have to be their eyes seem to be saying, I’m here and I’m fine.
