If you’ve grown a bit sea sick from all the nautical-inspired clothes you’ve been sporting this summer, why not return to dry land and go more utilitarian with the military-inspired pieces dominating stores? These pieces have a harder look, with cargo pockets, neutral colors and grommet detailing. Though many of these pieces are quite masculine, the neutral coloring means they can easily be softened with feminine pieces such as floral dresses. Think combat boots with tights, a floral mini dress and cardigan. So cute!
The best thing about this style? While military inspired pieces have been pretty trendy for a few seasons now, the utilitarian coats are a classic investment piece that can stay in your wardrobe for years to come. And they’ll come in handy if, you know, you ever need to go on an incognito stalking mission. What, just me? Read More »

If you haven’t heard about TOMS shoes yet you are really missing out. Not just because the shoes are cute. And not just because the shoes are so comfy it feels like you are walking around campus in slippers. Or on clouds. Or marshmallows. (Hm. I could totally go for a s’more right now… but I digress). But because the premise on which TOMS shoes exists is pretty remarkable.
For every pair you buy, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in a developing country who is in need. And since beginning in 2006, TOMS has given over 600,000 shoes to children in need. Talk about your purchase going to a greater good (and I’m not just talking about the greater good that is you looking totally cute, although TOMS shoes do that too).
So here are four of my favorite ways to rock the TOMS, wherever you may be going. And four pairs for you means four for kids who REALLY need the shoes. Fashion has never felt so good. Read More »

With the summer heat in full swing it can be tempting to cut out the beauty regime completely and opt for some SPF 45 instead. But don’t! The hottest beauty trends for summer ’09 looks are actually pretty simple. You can get that face looking flawless in no time, whether you’re heading to that summer job or off to the beach.
This summer the ideal face is neutral with eyes that burst with color. Bright color. You may think it’s hard to pull off, but with these quick tips and products, anyone can do it:
Flawless Matte Bronzer: Start your summer look with a clean matte face. Skip the moisturizer, which will add shine, and instead opt for Sephora Brand’s Anti-Shine Primer; it will moisturize while providing a shine free base (yep, it really works). Then, swipe on Bare Essentual’s bronzer in Faux Tan. This summer is all about having a natural looking tan and a shine free face and the light minerals in this bronzer won’t make you look cakey. Plus, if you have a sunburn it’s safer and much more natural to even it out with a mineral bronzer than to try and use concealer to even out those lines.
Extra bonus: It has SPF 15 built in to help prevent a sunburn to begin with!
Natural Nude Lips: Nude lips are all over models, celebs, and fashion magazines. Unlike bright, bold lip colors, you can sport nude lips during the day or night, even at the beach. Try Bobbi Brown’s Lip Gloss in Buff, Beige, or Nude, depending on your skin tone. It’s a little pricier than your usual drugstore find, but the color is beautiful and totally worth the splurge.
Slightly Rosy Cheeks: Put away your bright cheek stains and choose a cheek color that will add a natural flush. To really get the look of the summer, steer clear of just swiping the blush on the apples of your cheeks, and instead sweep up lightly towards your temples. This gives your face an all over glow that is fresh and rosy. Try LORAC’s Baked Matte Satin Blush in Exposed. Read More »

[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
Green. The color of all things great: this lovely planet, money and Starbucks straws.
Oh, and how can I forget fashion?
This season there is no shortage of kelly green. And for good reason; this color looks good on nearly everyone, and totally sets its wearer out from the crowd. From the red carpet to Old Navy, there it is – yet another cute, bright green dress shouting, “BUY ME! You have to have me for summer!!”
I’ve never been good at saying no, especially when something (or someone) so cute is talking to me.
I like to call this little sitch the big green oxymoron. I don’t have any green in my wallet to buy said green dress, but I have to have it. What is one to do? Well, aside from splitting your purchase onto three different credit cards, of course (not that I’m condoning that!).
Thankfully, you don’t have to spend a lot of green to take home the green, and I’m here to bring you these cute green dresses for cheap. You love me. I know.
