Put This On Your iPod: Social Network Soundtrack

[Sarabeth here, back with some more jams to add to your iTunes library! Every Wednesday, I'm bringing you music suggestions - could be something new, old, hugely popular or fairly unknown -  to awesome-ify your  collection.]

Anybody else out there already having to read volumes upon volumes for their classes? WTF? It’s only the second week back, professors! Can’t a girl catch a little post-break break?

Le sigh.

Good thing there’s music to save the day. I figured I’d help everyone out there get back into the swing of things and offer up an album that’s great to do homework to when you want some background noise but the How I Met Your Mother marathons are too distracting. It also just so happens to be one of the Oscar nominees for best original score: The Social Network Soundrack.

About the Artist:
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame teamed up with Atticus Ross to score the film The Social Network. Reznor originally turned down the gig, but eventually came around. Smart move, buddy. Reznor is from Pennsylvania and dropped out of college after a year to pursue his musical career. Ross is an English composer who moved to the United States in 2000 and has also worked on Book of Eli. Read More »

Sexy Time: Sexy Music

I learned a lot of valuable lessons during my high school years. Not so much from going to class or doing homework (because I didn’t really do that), but from being a horny teenager who lived at home and had thin walls.

You see, my bedroom was directly beside (sharing a wall) with my mom’s room, and that wall that we shared, the one right by my bed, had a vent that happened to be connected to her room as well. You couldn’t see through it, but we learned pretty quickly that this vent in our adjoining wall wasn’t quite soundproof.

Having acquired my very first “real” boyfriend (one that lasted more that a week…) and having a lot of fun experimenting with sex for the first time ever, this vent in the wall became something of a challenge. For a good few months there was a pillow wedged up against it, acting as some weird sound-proof barrier, but when the winter months rolled around and I started freezing at night, I realized that blocking the main source of heat that filtered into my room probably wasn’t a good idea.

But then we figured out the perfect way to drown our sexy noises while keeping my room at a comfortable 20 or so degrees – music. Sure, it’s not silence, and it still traveled through the walls, but I guarantee my mother appreciated the sound of slow bass late at night a lot more than hearing anything else coming through our walls. Top 10 Albums of 2008 – According to ME

Top albums lists are like as*holes: everyone’s got one. Um…that might, coincidentally, be because they are also like opinions. I’ve got my own set of favorite everythings..and that includes albums.

Below are my own top ten albums from 2008. Are there other great albums from the past year? Why certainly, diligent fan. But I’ve been asked to adjust my ears and pen my opinion, so here it is – in no particular order – because…well…that would be way too difficult. Read More »

Nine Inch Nails Hammers Out Another One

nin.jpg

I’ve never been a huge fan of hard rock. Sure, there are my vicious, ‘fuck you’ tracks that I throw on when I can’t think of a better way to vent my anger—Disorder from System of a Down, Killing In The Name Of by Rage Against the Machine are just a couple on this list.

One group that I do love all the time, any time though is Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor makes me want to melt into a pile of goo when I hear his voice. Do you remember that song Closer? I literally almost slide off my chair every time I hear it. No, no Trent, I was to fuck you like an animal. Rrrar!

After a few years absence, NIN is back with a vengeance. Officially the album came out April 18, but if you are an uber-fan (or possibly a little crazy) tracks from Year Zero have been appearing in bathroom stalls across the globe for quite some time. Huh? Read More »
