Craziest Lisa Frank Supplies

Several years ago, most elementary school class rooms looked like an acid trip, and we can all thank Lisa Frank for that. Her dogs, unicorns and weird aliens were on all of our school supplies. If you didn’t have something Lisa Frank, then you probably had no friends. But if you happened to have a Lisa Frank trapper keeper, you were probably the most popular girl in school.

Here’s some of the wackiest Lisa Frank school supplies. Read More »

The Top Mistakes Interns Make

By now, most college students have started their jobs and internships for the summer. After the first-day jitters, paperwork and orientation, you’re probably starting to feel comfortable in the workplace. Don’t give way to bad habits with these typical intern mistakes and solutions:

Wardrobe Malfunctions
When your standard summer uniform consists of a worn-in pair of Levi cutoffs and beat-up gladiator sandals, transitioning into an intern-appropriate wardrobe can be a little difficult. If you’re not familiar with the ways of the working world, you may show up to work overdressed or under-dressed. Play it safe with office appropriate dresses and skirts while getting a feel for your office’s choice of couture.

No Questions/Ideas
You landed the interview, wooed your supervisor and got the offer for the internship. Now what? Impressing the higher-ups before beginning work is only half the battle. Don’t be surprised when you’re asked for ideas or input at work or in meetings.  If you’re too startled to come up with anything, remember this: you were chosen for the position for a reason. Get your shine on and come up with something!

Overspending
If you’re working in a big city, be prepared to shell out some dough. Your metro fare and lunch will run up a pretty large tab, especially in Manhattan. $9 for a sandwich? Crazy! Avoid the spend-shock and prepare a budget ahead of time.

The DuoBinder Saves the Day (Or Your GPA)

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Duo Binder. All opinions are 100% mine.

File this one away in the “why the hell didn’t I think of that” category.

I recently received an email from someone asking if I wanted to try a “revolutionary binder.” I wasn’t really sure what could possibly revolutionize a binder (flashing lights? A smoke machine? It did your reading for you?), but being the school supplies whore that I am, I accepted. A few days later, the Duo Binder arrived on my doorstep.

And I have to say, it is revolutionary!

The Duo Binder combines a 3-ring binder with an accordion file, allowing you to keep everything for every class in one place. Plus, it’s got this bungee closure thingy that makes sure everything (no matter how messy it is inside!) stays safely and securely in there. You can keep handouts, notes, completed work, magazines (in case class is boring) and more in this bad boy. It might just be the most organized you’ve ever been for school…. ever. Read More »

Don’t Eff It Up – Tips for Surviving The End of Classes.

stressed=dessertsSpring Break (and that 3-day hangover) is over and summer break is so close you can taste it. Mom’s home cooking, that is.

I know it’s hard to stay on track, especially when you’re only thinking about the months of freedom, days at the beach and (finally!) reading for pleasure, but snap out of it! You’ve worked too hard all year to eff it all up now.

If you want to spend the summer lounging by a pool (or in your front yard with the roomies) and not re-taking that Econ class, heed my advice:

1. STAY Organized: I don’t know about you all, but my room has certainly gotten messy. However, the minute I took the time to organize it the way I did when I got back from winter break, I immediately felt less stressed out. Having an organized work space makes you focus better, so take the time to reorganize if you’re room has gotten out of hand.

2. Calendar EVERYTHING: I have this big dry erase wall calendar that I write everything down on. Hopefully you have one of these, and if you didn’t get one at the beginning of this semester, I suggest you invest in one NOW. When you write things down it helps you remember them. It’s a very easy way to keep track of tests and quizzes that are on your syllabus. Also make sure to put birthdays on there, especially your roommates. Forgetting a roommate’s birthday could be fatal. (They do know where you live…) Read More »
