What Dangers Lurk in Your Makeup Bag?

girl applying makeupMaybe she’s born with it, but for me, it’s definitely Maybelline. Like most women, I don’t even think about how many beauty products, from face wash to perfume, I layer on every day. Something I’ve given even less thought to is what’s in my products—until I found Kaia House.

Jumping on the organic bandwagon a little late, I just discovered Kaia House, the foremost source for organic skin and beauty care. Kaia House focuses on banishing the use over of harmful petrochemicals, parabens and other skin offenders, and offers 20 lines of premium organic and natural products including celeb-trendy Osea, Perfect Organics, Red Flower, and Biotique.

But when it comes to beauty products, is going out of your way to buy organic really worth it? Absolutely, according to Kaia House. And after reading their extensive list of un-safe (and common) chemicals that should be avoided when purchasing beauty products, I think I’m a convert.

Read up on the dangers lurking in your makeup bag and then head to KaiaHouse.com for a more comprehensive list. Your skin will thank you! Read More »

Say cheese! (made from breast milk)

cheese.jpgFile this under S-I-C-K.

A French website, advertising a farm called Le Petit Singly, claims to sell a special type of cheese…made out of human breast milk.

The site—which is in French, therefore making it impossible for me to truly know what’s going on—claims that women’s breast milk has a light “hazelnut” flavor and every single one of their wedges is certified organic (which means the women who “donated” had to be on a vegetarian, organic diet themselves).

If you want my two cents, I think the whole thing is a hoax. Who in their right mind would donate extra boob juice so someone could make it into cheese?

I can actually believe there are people out there who would want to try it, but unless these mothers are making bank, I can’t imagine anyone allowing some farmer to curdle milk that came out of their breasts. Is nothing sacred anymore?!

Just grab a nice slice of cheddar and leave the B Milk to the babies. They’re the ones who actually need it.

Hemp Granola Bars. Seriously.

hemp.jpgAh Soy, how I love you cubed in my Ramen, sautéed with broccoli and peanut sauce in that Thai restaurant down the street, and poured in my morning coffee in the form of Silk.

Let’s face it, you don’t have to be a vegetarian to nosh on a little soy now and then. But there’s a new plant competing for the affections of vegans and carnivores alike—hemp. Chances are, if you’ve been hanging out in Whole Foods recently, you’ve noticed an unusual amount of hemp based goodies like hemp tortillas, hemp granola bars, hemp bread, and hemp bagels.

Don’t think the only people jumping on this foodie bandwagon are patchouli scented, pot smoking, Grateful Dead t-shirt wearing, hippies. Any health nut worth their Kashi Go Lean is trying out these new products. Read More »

The Dangers of Not Eating Meat

tofurkyyy.jpgI knew there was a reason vegans annoyed me.

People are allowed to eat whatever they want. But when they make it my problem—or kill their baby—I get pissed.

Every once in a while, a vegetarian will lean over and politely explain why their salad and cheese dinner is better than my cheeseburger, and usually I agree with them. Honestly, if I could become a vegetarian, I would. But I’m Italian. I was eating meatballs before I could walk. Take away my meat and carbs and I will fall into depression faster than Lindsay Blohan without her coke.

But vegans. Vegans are another story. You might get mad at me, the real vegans reading this, but I’m not your biggest fan. I have never met a vegan who didn’t feel like serving up a sermon.
