The 2011 Oscars Fashion Recap

As a reward for staying up late to watch the Oscars, I really feel I should be rewarded with any or all of the actresses’ makeup artists. And maybe a stylist. Getting up and dressed for school after a late night is a bit of a challenge when I’ve got major on-loan-dress-envy. While the awards themselves were a little awkward (Did James Franco meet up with Charlie Sheen before the show?), there were a few entertaining moments. For me, the best part was joining in on the College Candy liveblog Oscar party.

Seriously, it was the place to be last night….and about the only reason I even stayed awake for the “duh” awards at the end of the show.

But we all know we don’t watch the Oscars for the show itself. The fashion – from the dresses to the jewels to the shoes – is what really matters. Especially when it’s James Franco wearing all three. Oscar Fashion – What Were They Thinking (Literally)?

There’s something about the Oscars that brings out the awkwardness in our favorite Hollywood stars and starlets.  On the red carpet, we get to hear the awkward comments celebs make when they aren’t scripted.  On stage, we get to hear the awkward comments the presenters make when they are scripted and given the corniest jokes to deliver.  Best of all, are the awkward pauses after those corny jokes when no one laughs. And when asked how they “feel” to be here, most nominees will respond with variations of “amazing” “speechless” and “honored.”

These are the expected/accepted answers, but even though these are the elitist of the Hollywood elite, the Oscar guests are humans after all, and they have to be thinking SOMETHING else.  So… what were they really thinking?

From PopEater: Gabourney Sidibe is This Year’s Oscar Girl

Every year, there’s one Oscar newcomer who designers would kill to get their dresses on.

Jennifer Hudson had the spotlight in 2007 when Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley took her under his wing. French actress Marion Cotillard was the one to watch in 2008 after her breakthrough performance in ‘La Vie en Rose.’ And everyone was eager to see what Freida Pinto would be wearing on the red carpet in 2009.

This year, all eyes are on Gabourey Sidibe. The 26-year-old rookie earned a Best Actress nomination for her work in ‘Precious,’ and fashion designers are clamoring for her attention. Read More »
