The Oscar nominations are in.
And the claws are out.

Once the Academy Award nominations are public knowledge you expect there to be gossip, some hurt feelings, some angry fans, and some shocked directors. People have expectations, ideas about who should win and why. But there are so many worthwhile films and so few spots; it’s inevitable that some will get left in the dust. So you can expect a little hostility. Some discussion in the days ahead. But I have a feeling these nominations will leave fans talking for a while. The Academy left us all a little shocked and surprised as they dissed some fan favorites in favor of… True Grit?

But wait. It gets worse.

No best director nomination for Nolan, despite Inception‘s many other nods. No best actor nod for Gosling for Blue Valentine, even though co-star Williams was short listed for best actress. Timberlake and Garfield didn’t make it onto that list either, despite the success of The Social Network. And that’s just the first few.

(We’re back with another weekly installment of G.W.W.E. [Guys We Wanna Eff]. Award season is upon us, and while the whole world is buzzing about his film, Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel should be winning an Oscar for Best Effability in a Leading Role!)

Every year, there seems to be one film that captures the hearts and imaginations of the public, and this year everyone is talking about Slumdog Millionaire. Based on the true story of a young man from the poorest neighborhoods of Mumbai who wins the top prize in the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” Slumdog has already won the Golden Globe for Best Picture and is up for the Academy Award in just over two weeks.  And crucial to the movie’s success is the romantic main character, Jamal Malik, played by newcomer Dev Patel.

Just who is this new Hollywood hunk, and is it okay that I wanted to eff him silly when I saw him shirtless in the movie’s first scenes?

Don’t worry, ladies, I’ve got the scoop. Dev was born in England in 1990 (he’s legal!) and had his first big break on the British comedy, Skins. On his Skins cast member blog, Dev thrills us with this titillating update, “Since we last spoke, I have become a sex machine who will bring to you a sensory experience that will blow your feminine mind and titillate your crazy hot body. Everyone’s been taking about JLo lately, and we want to also – just not for the same reasons. Who cares if she and Marc Anthony are calling it splits (that’s their business, anyway)? We care about more important things…like what she’ll be wearing to meet with the attorneys.

Being one of the most famous faces in the world means always looking camera-ready, and Jennifer Lopez has gotten that down pat. Whether out shopping in jeans and a casual top, or posing for the Oscars, J.Lo has got it goin’ on. As you may already have read on an earlier post, Oscar-winning actress and American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson is searching for her 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, after police found the singer’s mother and brother shot to death in their home on Friday. Hudson posted a $100,000 reward for any information leading to the safe return of her nephew.

Unfortunately, The Associated Press has reported that the body of a young, black male has been found in the back of the white van in Chicago. Though the body has not been confirmed as being Julian, the van matched the one being sought after in the Amber Alert issued for Julian’s disappearance.

We cannot possibly think of any reason to harm an innocent child, so we hope the police find out who did this soon.

My style idol this week is someone who has recently come into her own and proven to the world that you can come out of a (very) bad break-up stronger and more beautiful than ever before: Anne Hathaway.

Ever since her life seemed to be falling apart early this summer when her ex was accused of fraud and tax evasion, Anne has been kicking some major booty. Not only is she getting rave reviews and Oscar buzz for her role in Rachel Getting Married, she’s doin’ it all while looking gorgeous and glam.

Let’s be honest; Anne hasn’t always been totally up on style or considered a fashion icon. Lately, however, she’s been seen everywhere sporting well thought-out ensembles that are trendy yet unique, classy, and do a phenomenal job of highlighting her long & lean frame.

She’s often seen in darling and feminine dresses, is a big fan of belts, and, when on the red carpet, she’s fantastic at throwing back to old Hollywood glamour with gorgeous gowns by designers like Marchesa and Dior. Put a “Mork” in it–it’s done! More like Mrs. Doubt-fired! Can’t-”Patch”-up-this-marriage Adams.

I could go on, but I think you get the gist: Robin Williams is ending his 19-year marriage to Marcia Garces Williams, the former nanny of his child with another wife, Valerie Valardi (holy baby mama drama, Batman!). REPORTS cite “irreconcilable differences.”

All I can say is: sad face.

Who cares if his volume of body hair exceeds that of any animal featured alongside him in Jumanji? Robin Williams is a wildly talented and totally hilarious mofo, with a pretty extensive acting range–he was behind the greatest story of forbidden love ever, FernGully, and then went on to win an Oscar for his role in Good Will Hunting.

So, in the wake of this devastating news, I’m going to go back in Robin Williams time and think about all the interesting movies he has done…
