Fashion Porn: Accessorizing from Head to Toe

It’s almost the end of the year. As you’re making your New Year’s resolution list, here’s something to think about: punching up your style for 2011.

If you have “budget better” on your list, this might seem like it will counter a resolution to save money, but it doesn’t have to. An easy way to add a little punch to your wardrobe is with accessories! With a pair of patterned tights you can easily change the appearance of your go-to black dress. With a sparkly headband you can add some interest to your in-dire-need-of-a-cut hairstyle. Though Blair Waldorf-esque bow headbands may seem so Constance Billards, adding one with a lot of bling is a way to stray from that UES image.

By adding accessories from head to toe, you can add a lot of pizzaz to an otherwise basic outfit. And I’ve got 15 items to scoop up just in time for the New Year. Read More »

Wardrobe Wish List: Anthropologie Gams Games Tights

I’ve been afraid of patterned tights since Gossip Girl made them such a trend. They look a tad bit tricky to pull off, which so makes me want to be the one who can pull them off perfectly.  Now that it’s just chilly enough that bare legs are gawked at but a winter coat is on hold until someone gets if for you for Christmas (hey mom!), tights are an affordable accessory that can keep your gams both warm and fashionable.

Enter the Gams Games Tights form Anthropologie. A very detailed floral pattern makes the flowers in the thigh area look like they were meant to be that large, not like they’re stretched out by the unfortunate truth that thighs are bigger than calves (especially after a few too many late-night pizza binges). The detail is also so becoming and shadowy enough that you won’t look like you wallpapered your legs, an unfortunate byproduct of some other floral tights.

There aren’t a lot of pieces out there that you can wear on any given occasion that can be considered wearable art – unless you’re Lady Gaga. These not only look like an artist sketched them onto your legs with the grey colors and shading details, but they’re the simplest way to add a wow factor to a plain, tailored dress or a tired plain skirt. It’s On: Heritage 1981 vs. Urban Outfitters

When you think Vintage Fashion, what comes to mind? Soft v-neck tees, your favorite jeans, flashy mini-skirts, and something that sparkles, all with a retro feel?

The thought makes you drool, doesn’t it?

Everyone loves vintage fashion. Those unique items are like the one-of-a-kind antiques of fashion, and with trends circulating as they do, it makes sense to covet the old and fabulous. But short of raiding grandma’s closet or spending hundreds at some small over-priced vintage boutique, where can you load up on the retro?

Allow me to recommend a few good places. Their goods may not be on-of-a-kind, but they are certainly a retro and cool kind all their own. Read More »

We Love WeLoveColors.com

bright tightsMy aversion to pants puts a strain on my wardrobe when the autumn weather rolls into town. But this season’s addiction to brightly colored tights has come to my rescue. Taking my fashion cue from Blair Waldorf and the rest of the Gossip Girl cast, bright, opaque tights are the remedy for the end-of-summer blues.

I plan on having candy-colored legs every day of the week this fall. And for my one-stop tights-shopping extravaganza, I’ll be buying out the entire stock at WeLoveColors.com.

Bright tights are a great way to set yourself apart in a crowd and pulling off these adventurous ensembles is easier than you think. Whether it’s bright pink tights underneath your Little Black Dress or patterned tights with a pair of your favorite boots (many of the tights come without the annoying feet, so you don’t have to be yanking at the tights all day!), WeLoveColors has what you’re looking for. The only thing left for me to do is figure out how best to incorporate zebra print tights into my daily life.

Who doesn’t love a little color to spice up an outfit? Now you can be warm, trendy and show a little leg while you’re at it as you rock bright tights this fall. If you’re not ready to push all your favorite dresses to the back of your closet, I would check out WeLoveColors.com for outfit inspiration.
