Before and After Photoshop: New Software Reveals All

For those of you who watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last night, have you guilted yourself into skipping your usual morning Peppermint Mocha? Watching beautiful women prance around with perfect bodies in barely-there underwear can definitely have that effect on your diet. While it may seem easy to compare your pale, non-summer body and flat hair to the tanned and toned physiques of the Angels, consider cutting yourself a little slack.

It’s already been revealed how completely ridiculous the VS models’ eating and exercising regimen is in the weeks up to the big event. (No consuming anything, even water, 24 hours prior to the show…say what!?) Regular people don’t live their lives like that. Aside from being excruciatingly difficult, it’s plain ol’ unhealthy.

Truth time: Even celebs bodies aren’t what they appear to be in magazines. Want proof and a confidence boost? Check out this new Photoshop-detecting software that can tell how manipulated an image has been. The before and afters will shock you! Really want an eye-opener? Toggle the images for Kim Kardashian. Wow.

Meet the Students with the Biggest Imaginations Ever

Click the photo above to see more winning pieces from the Adobe challenge.

As loyal readers of CollegeCandy know, we’re really big into Adobe’s Student Imagination Challenge. We’re up for anything that involves offering students money (we’re talking $10,000) just for being creative. So that’s why we’re celebrating the winners of round one and two by showcasing their work right here!

Jealous you didn’t get a chance to enter? Don’t be.  The next round is starting today, September 18th. Get all the details right here.

Meet our Adobe Contest Winner!

Two weeks ago we told you that we were on the search to find a new, cool logo to use on all our many social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr). And Adobe was so excited to hear about our Photoshop-inspired contest that they decided to chip in to give the winner her very own copy of CS5.5.

We got a whole slew of entries and it was hard to pick the very best one. I mean, you’re looking at judges who’s Photoshop skills are still on the Microsoft Paint level. So it’s fair to say that we were pretty, pretty impressed with the entries that came in.

But life is about making the hard decisions and that’s why we had to pick just one. So with no further ado, see the new face of CC social media (give or take a few tweaks).

Oh, and if this contest got you all hot and bothered about Adobe, then get excited. Because on August 21st, they’re launching a contest that you gotta see to believe! It’s the Imagination Challenge and you could win up to $10,000. That’s a lot of $1 slices of pizza. Or like one really nice iPad, a new fall wardrobe and still a lot of $1 slices of pizza.

P.S: While we’re on the Photoshop topic train, don’t forget to watch our awesome tutorial on turning your summer memories into a piece of artwork.

Design CC a New Logo and Win a Copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5.5

Photoshop. We know it as every celebrity’s best friend (“Wow, did you lose ten pounds over night!?”) and worst enemy (“Yikes, did you see her leaked nude photos?”). But did you know that the creative lengths to which you can go with Adobe Photoshop stretch way beyond slimming down thighs and blending one head onto another body?

For instance you can pimp out an endless number of class projects, add a little dazzle to your resume, kick-start a campus club with snazzy flyers or deck the halls of your sorority house. Recognizing that every student should have this essential program, Adobe and CollegeCandy want to give you the opportunity to win a copy of Photoshop CS5.5!

Weekly Wrap-Up: At Home for Halloweekend

Halloweekend 2010 is finally here, and after a week of warming up between all-nighter study sessions for midterms and all-nighter sexy time, the costumed craziness continues through to Monday morning’s walk of shame.

But in case you haven’t thrown together a simple outfit yet, or if you simply don’t feel like spending all of next week detagging and/or Photoshopping drunken photos, here are a few CC-approved options to still keep your weekend productive:

Brush up on your 2010 World Series speak. It’s the perfect conversation topic post-Halloweekend (and we don’t just mean with frat boys).

(Try to) plan your perfect class schedule. Just like every other semester, it’s worth a try.

Do something for yourself to cheer you up amidst midterm mania (and these tips are still as effective post-grad!)

Stream “It Gets Better” videos on YouTube. Warning: the onscreen inspiration is addicting!

Stir up enough courage and finally submit that Morning After story. Whether centered around your big boobs or the smaller body parts of others, we’ll take it – anonymously, of course!

Win a free beer pong table! With a steady hand and your incognito camera-phone abilities, it’ll be easy to turn a few annoying costumed college kids in October into your next drinking game in November.

Happy Halloween!

Duke It Out: Is Photoshopping Wrong?

[It's pretty obvious that the average CollegeCandy reader has some very strong opinions. Opinions that she likes to share with everyone on the site. Sometimes with mean words. We love a strong woman (unless she happens to be charging at us with her fists raised), so we thought we'd give her a real forum to discuss her thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Every Friday I'll be featuring a hot topic (like sexy halloween costumes!) and leaving it up to you, the readers, to duke it out. So, read it and get your debate on in the comments section below!]

Photoshop has given the world some wonderful gifts – the ability to get rid of those red demon eyes you’re rocking  in pictures or erase that tequila bottle that mysteriously appeared in your hand (seriously, there must have been something on the lens, mom) before the pics hit Facebook, the power to waste incredible amounts of time laughing at crappy airbrushing, and, of course, the chance to discover what your holiday cards will look like once Jensen Ackles leaves his wife to be with you (no? Just me?). Photoshop has also committed some unspeakable horrors in the name of beauty and advertising, because we needed even more unrealistic expectations of attractiveness, right?

Recently, Rachael Leigh Cook (remember her?!) spoke out against the practice of airbrushing, going so far as to say that since false advertising is a crime and photo-correcting is essentially false advertising, then photoshopping in the media should be a crime. That’s quite a statement there, Rach – let’s go to the polls!

French Elle’s No Makeup Issue Celebrates Natural Beauty

mr_c66ac56b4dbc47The most recent issue of French Elle magazine hit shelves earlier this week with an interesting (and might I say, refreshing) twist: all the cover models were photographed without any makeup or photo re-touching.

Most of the time when I see “Stars Without Makeup!” on a magazine cover, it’s on the front of some tabloid surrounded by unattractive candid shots of gorgeous stars like Jennifer Lopez in an effort to “humanize” them and make it seem like they’re more like us “regular” folk.  And I don’t know about all of you, but these sort of pictures always scare me a little–if  celebrities look this bad without their makeup, what hope do the rest of us have?  I know that I can’t ever leave the house with at least eyeliner or mascara on without feeling like I look sick.

So when I first heard about French Elle‘s “Stars Sans Fards” (literally meaning “without makeup”, but also suggests a sort of “openness”), I was a little scared and also surprised–it definitely doesn’t sound like something I’d expect to see in a magazine like Elle.

Once I saw the pictures, though, I was completely awed.

The women on the cover don’t look like what I’ve come to expect from those paparazzi no-makeup shots: they look absolutely beautiful. Why don’t I look that good without makeup on?  I love the idea of the “au natural” look, but I’ve never been brave enough to try it myself. I know what I look like before a swipe of cover up and a touch of blush – no one else needs to see that. Read More »
