“Would You Rather…” Wednesdays

23tsw_big.jpgWednesdays are rough. Sure, you are halfway through the week, but you still have two more loooong days before the weekend. Barf.

You aren’t alone; we can barely keep our eyes open right now, and we’ve already had an extra large Red Bull today. Maybe we shouldn’t have stayed up so late last night watching Obama speak and then all the angry Obama-haters react. Who are we kidding? Of course we should have!

Anyways, in order to get you through the hardest day of the week (after Monday or hungover-as-hell Sunday, that is), we thought we’d play a little game of “Would You Rather?” Because what is more fun than pondering life’s most random conundrums?

So, here we go. Choose your answer and explain why in the comments section below!

Would you rather never have a bad hair day, or be allowed one do-over when you screw up while trying to pick up men/women?

No, we did not think of these ourselves – we aren’t that sick. All questions come from our friends Justin Hiemberg and David Gomberg, creators of the Would You Rather…? series.

How To Date Like a Man

Own The Room

When’s the last time you saw a guy walk into a bar or party looking useless and confused? Okay, so it was yesterday. Were you interested in him? No? Shocker. That’s because most guys walk into a place with a purpose. Unless they’re looking for a space to park their binder filled with original Star Trek drawings, they’re looking for friends or women. And you should look the same. When you walk into a place, act like you know where the hell you’re going, even if you don’t. Everyone will wonder who you are and why you’re there, but they’ll never think you’re useless and confused.

Eye Your Prey

Got your eye on someone? Good. Don’t shy away. Look him straight in the eye and think, You should be attached to my lips by now; why aren’t you? Trust me, he’ll read your thoughts like they’re projected above your head on a wide-screen. Read More »

Is Your Prof Flirt-Worthy?

3fbde2164e292-39-1.jpgIt’s the first day of class, and you’re really dreading that last gen ed you have to conquer to complete your plan of study. You know this course is going to be the death of you, and you’ve already decided to do only enough to squeak by, and skip the maximum number of classes possible before attendance starts to effect your grade. You walk into the classroom, and a few minutes later, a total hottie enters the room. You sit up in your seat and silently will him to sit next to you (or on your lap, whichev), but instead he sets up shop in the front of the room and starts passing around a stack of syllabi.

If you’re attracted to your professor, it can be painful to fight the urge to flirt shamelessly with him. However, is breaching the student-teacher conduct worth it? And better yet, is it safe?

The downside to flirting with your professor is that you have to be subtle. When he asks, “Any questions?” You can’t blurt out, “Would you like to make out with me?” Likewise, the lines, “I’ve lost my number, can I borrow yours,” “Are you tired? Because you’ve been running through my mind all day,” and “Nice shoes. Wanna f*ck” are inappropriate.

Even being subtle can be difficult, since, chances are, if he’s really that hot, all of the other girls in class have noticed. So if you’re idea of flirting with a prof is to memorize all of the reading assignments and raise your hands twelve times in a 50-minute lecture, the other girls are going to recognize your feeble attempts, and you’ll be labeled a suck-up or a teacher’s pet. And if he nicely asks you to give someone else a chance to participate, you will feel your heart shatter into bitty pieces and fume when he compliments Betty Jean’s insightful answer. Read More »

What’s The Worst Thing You’ve Ever T-9′d?

text.jpgEver hear a story while drinking and think to yourself, “Wow, that’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard,” only to wake up the next morning and wonder why you laughed in the first place?

This is not a story about that.

Last night, while out with some new friends, I heard a story. A funny story. A story I continued to ask to be repeated for the duration of the evening. A story that is still making me laugh now, after the Advil, bottle of water, and greasy breakfast sandwich.

One of the guys I was with (we will call him Kevin) once met a girl that he liked.  He wooed her all night and was totally smitten. She was intelligent, funny, and had really cute dimples when she smiled. And – score! – he got her number. When Kevin got home later he thought he’d send her a cute text.

“It was great meeting you tonight. You have really cute dimples.”

Unfortunately, T-9 and auto-correct got the best of him. Read More »

You Got Game: Picking up that Hottie

Sebastien AndrieuLook through my phonebook. The list is never-ending. Dan. Paul. Rick. Mike. Javier. Alex. Nicolas. Nicolas #2. Cedric. Brandon. And so on. Not to brag, but I’m something of a certified P-I-M-P. Poppin’ the collar all over the place. And brushing my shoulders off.

I wouldn’t put myself on player status, because that’s not what it’s about. No one actually gets ahead by playing games. Games are childish. People do actually get ahead by meeting new people, and being able to go for what they want.

Like that guy. The incredibly sexy one across the room. Dark hair falling in his very green eyes. And a crowd around him that’s ten chicks deep.

The Strategy? Don’t pay him too much attention.

It works every time; if he really is that hot, he knows it. And if he didn’t know it, the girls throwing themselves at him will have been a good wakeup call. So why not switch The Game up on him? You’re cute. You’re fun. And you are the one chick he can’t just wrap around his finger. Or at least you’re pretending like you are.

I’m not talking about your middle school cold-shoulder tactics. The point is simply not to let this guy know that inside you’re going googly-eyed. Usually, one firm, flirty look is all you need. Then continue with your evening. Laugh with your girlfriends. Look stupid on the dance floor. Do whatever it is that you would normally do if dreamboat weren’t standing over there in the corner.

About halfway through the night, you might want to give dreamboat a reminder that you’re still there and pointedly walk past him, and then maybe go order a drink by yourself, so that he doesn’t have to awkwardly say something to you in front of all your drooling girlfriends. Read More »

Upsides of Being a Swingin’ Single

happy.jpgGod, it feels good to be single again. I recently broke up with my boyfriend of two years, and I know that this move solidified my future as an old maid. I know I’ll never find a guy more perfect for me than my ex, and that I’ll probably die alone. But, damn, it feels good to be single.

When you’re single, it can be hard to sit back and watch your attached girlfriends in their romantic endeavors. They get flowers from their boyfriends; they always have a date to a party; they have someone to cuddle with in the morning. But they also don’t have the opportunities that you have as an independent woman.

My (ex)boyfriend and I had been doing the long-distance thing for a while. I am currently trying to find my career path, but I had to keep trying to get a job close to him. This eliminated a plethora of job opportunities for me. When you get ready to graduate college, you can move anywhere you want or take any job that’s offered to you.

The girls who are involved have to make their life decisions with their partner. True, they can opt for the long-distance thing, but that still makes moving much harder than it does for you, the single gal with no emotional baggage.

Since reemerging onto the singles scene, I’ve also been feeling less stressed. Personally, I’ve had a lot on my plate lately, and I felt like even the daily “goodnight” phone call was cutting into what little time I have to spend on everything else. It takes effort to make a relationship work. True, it’s great to have a boyfriend to vent to or to seek reassurance from, but when you are trying to balance jobs, school, extracurriculars, and other responsibilities, sometimes it’s nice to be able to focus on you without feeling selfish. The Play(s) of My Life: The Bouncer, AND Another Failed Pickup Line

bouncer(SARA, 23, enters a dive bar with a small group of friends. She is the last one in.

The second she steps in, a middle-aged guy in a leather jacket, the bouncer, stops her at the door.)

MIDDLE-AGED GUY

ID.

(Our heroine is surprised surprised because this is a serious dive bar, and not a single one of her friends got carded before her.)

SARA

Just me?

BOUNCER

Yep.

Sara shows him her ID. He looks it at very carefully, gives it back, and then smiles and nods Sara in.

Once inside, Sara finds her friends.)

SARA

I can’t belive the bouncer carded me.

FRIEND

What bouncer?

(Sara turns to point at the bouncer, but now there’s no one standing at the door.

They leave soon after and Sara spots the “bouncer” drinking with his friends.) Read More »

Pickup Lines: A Lost Art?

Graphic TeeTo some, pickup lines are irritating, to others, they’re a welcome invitation, and to still others, they can even be insulting. Personally, while there is a slim likelihood of taking a guy seriously after he throws out a clichéd line, I do enjoy a good laugh from those that are unique.

Enter last weekend. While out on the town blissfully throwing back a few vodka sodas with my best wing-women, I was approached by what I could only assume was a potential suitor. The prospect excited me. Standing there all suave with his head cocked to one side, he said “Girl, you are solid steel and sex appeal.”

I laughed so hard I nearly spilled my drink (thank god for my cat-like reflexes, to waste my drink would have been a tragedy). While I appreciate notice to my “solid steel” physique and “sex appeal” (it is nice to know that my time at the gym and new bio-flex bra paid off) I laughed hysterically and he quickly fled the scene. Once fully able to compose myself, my gals and I commenced a reminiscent conversation of a few unusual pickup lines we have witnessed: Read More »
