[Welcome to Celebrity Chic on the Cheap, where our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities (like always fabulous Selena Gomez) are spending $5,000 on an ensemble you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire look. For cheap. Yes, we know - there is a spot for her in heaven.]
Halle Berry is a critically acclaimed, history-making, Academy Award winning actress. A former Bond Girl. A mother. And, obviously, a regulation hottie. She made super-short hair desirable. She’s always on “most beautiful/sexiest” lists. She inspires cheeseball novelty songs. She inspires spontaneous make out seshes at prestigious award ceremonies. At 44 years old, she is as fierce as stars 20 years younger as her.
Alas, while I don’t know how you can achieve killer bone structure or permanently incandescent skin, I can show you how to get one of Halle’s classic, sophisticated, sexy looks without maxing out five credit cards. Read More »

[In early adulthood there is an activity that plays a large role in most of our lives; nights out on the town. And with those nights out always comes the question: “What am I gonna wear?!?”
Each week I’ll be putting together a cute and affordable “going out” ensemble guide (that you can tweak to your own personal style and body type, of course) so that maybe that age-old question can be answered a little quicker than usual. And your friends aren’t waiting - for hours - for you to emerge from your room. Just consider me your own (free) personal Rachel Zoe.]
So holiday season is in full swing and we all know that means parties galore. So why not move away from the Little Black Dress and rock the uber-trendy menswear-inspired look instead? You will stand out at the many parties you plan to attend, and show the world how hot dressing up like a man can be…
When it comes to rocking the menswear look, there is a fine line between inspiration and actually wearing men’s clothes. It is important to focus on interpreting the look of menswear and not actually shopping in the men’s department. Read More »

Okay, so I’ll admit it; when it comes to shoes, I have a problem.
I can’t stop buying them.
I love all kinds of shoes, from flip flops to stilettos to my trusty Chuck Taylors. I love my tried and true (black pumps, ballet flats, etc.) and I love finding fun and funky shoes to add a lil’ oomph to an outfit. I have shoes ranging from Payless and Target to Steve Madden and even a few beloved pairs of designer shoes (that were all purchased in outlets or amazing clearance sales, I must add).
The best thing about shoes is that trends come in cycles so you can save your favorite pairs and use them for more than one season.
This season there are six major shoe trends emerging, although a couple of them are old trends re-surging, so I’m here to let you know what you’ll be seeing on footsies in the next few months. Read More »

Being a hooker isn’t the safest occupation a girl can find herself in; what with all those dark alleyways, freaky Johns, and giant shoes.
But for whatever reason, someone has taken it upon themselves to make it a littler safer—and a lot more futuristic.
The Wired Blog is reporting about a new invention called Platforms from the Aphrodite project, which are—you guessed it—platform heels with a little added science.
These high-tech pumps have a GPS tracking device and alarm installed inside, and once the alarm is set off, the prostitute’s exact location is transmitted to either the police or sex worker’s rights groups.
Platforms are in development right now, and can be tried out (by hookers? Average people?) at Gallery Aferro in Newark, New Jersey in September. Read More »

I’m a vain person. There’s no denying that. And yes, I have worn things that were slightly uncomfortable in favor of looking good. I’ve ripped off my clothes at the end of the day and fallen onto my bed in free, naked bliss after 12 hours too tightness and stomach squishedness. I’ve done it. I won’t deny.
But I do have a line. A personal line I will not cross when it comes to being uncomfortable. Especially when it comes to shoes.
Shoes can make or break a day, particularly if you’re like me and live in a city where you have to walk EVERYWHERE. I have gone from happy and playful to cruel and homicidal in the course of only a few hours in certain pairs. Read More »
