CollegeCandy’s ‘Thanks for the Good Times, Summer’ Playlist

After countless barbecues and Bud Light Limes (or being stuck inside at your unpaid internship all day), summer is sadly coming to an end. Waaaaah (Snooki voice). But seeing your tan fade doesn’t mean there’s no more time for fun in the sun.

I’ve got three words: Labor Day weekend.

The last hurrah of summertime, so to speak. And to honor the goodness that was the past three months, we’ve created the perfect end-of-summer playlist to give this season the proper send-off.

Get your freak on right here.

Web Spy: Musicovery

[There are over 100 million sites on the Internet. 100 million! You might think you know about all the important ones (CollegeCandy, Gmail, Google, Zappos…), but there are thousands of other sweet sites out there (like Voyij, ShopStyle and MappyHour) and more showing up every day! We get it – it’s not easy or fun sifting through the crap and porn to find those gems, so we’re gonna bring the gems to you. Just sit back, kick up those feet and allow us to introduce you to the diamonds in the internet rough.]

You’ve most likely already heard of online radio websites like Pandora, Last.fm, and LaLa. But you might not have heard of Musicovery, a radio-type site that helps you find new music.  And this is definitely a site worth knowin’ about – Musicovery brings something different to the online radio scene.

What really sets Musicovery apart from other radio-type sites are its incredible customization options. Like similar sites, Musicovery lets you specify what type of music you want to listen to based on genre (such as Country, Classical, R&B, etc.).  However, what makes Musicovery unique (and in my opinion, pretty awesome) is that instead of choosing the artist you want to listen to (like most other sites), you choose the “mood” of music you want to listen to – from energetic to calm, positive to dark, and everything in between – and the site creates a playlist of songs based on what you choose.  Read More »

Everyone’s Favorite “Get Drunk and Sing” Songs

home_karaoke.jpgKaraoke isn’t for everyone, and we all know that a vast majority of us should probably steer clear from public vocal performance, but there are some songs that you can’t help belting out. These ten gems are taken from my own college experience, but quite a few have proven universal favorites among the twenty-something set as we all know it.

With no further ado, the top ten songs I personally can’t help but sing. In no particular order, let’s start with the obvious:

1. Don’t Stop Believing by Journey

Hold on to that feeling…

It’s inevitable. The bar will close, the party will end, and to signify the bittersweet ending of yet another great college night

2. Sweet Caroline (ba ba ba…) by Neil Diamond

So good, so good, so good!

Definitely should be reserved for last call, but still proves to be a favorite you can’t resist.

3. You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC

Cause the walls were shakin, the earth was quakin’, my mind was achin’, and we were makin’ it and you…

It requires a fist-pump. And that may be why I love it.

4. Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi

We’ve got each other and that’s a lot/ For love, we’ll give it a shot.. Ohhhhhhh….

Yeah. You maybe just started singing right now, I saw that.

5. Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money

I can hear you breathe, I can feel your heart beating faster (faster)…

A great song…and a great pick up line. Read More »

Dump Him Already: A Playlist

dov_charney_2.jpgBlood Tree – Mary Timony. Everybody dates a jerk or two. Rock stars, however, get to humiliate them publicly. Mary uses this song to recite the many ills of her ex. There are, of course, the usual problems – too many drugs, hitting on other girls, lame friends – but nothing compares to the kicker: a topless picture of his ex, which he showed her, for reasons known only to himself. Consider the fact that Timony has confirmed that this incident actually occurred. Then consider the fact that even the best of us hook a few freak shows. Then feel better. Then dump your guy.

Sheela-na-Gig – PJ Harvey. PJ tries to make sexy time with her gentleman caller. He turns her down flat. This leads to the most glorious song in the history of angry lady rock. Anyone who can work “dirty pillows,” “childbearing hips” and South Pacific into a single lyric deserves some kind of lifetime achievement award. Also, a boyfriend who will put out. Read More »
