I always love Maxim during Halloween because they write and feature the craziest stuff possible. Need proof? The first two headlines I laid eyes on for October’s cover were: ‘A Polar Bear Ate My Head,’ and ‘Secrets of Lesbian Sex: How to Get in on the Action.’
No wonder I grabbed the last issue on the newsstand. Men want them some gore and girl on girl.
As silly as Maxim can be, they do have some pretty funny one-liners littering their pages. And speaking of lesbians – see case A: this distant birthday wish. Maxim says, “My lesbian neighbors asked me what I wanted for my birthday. They gave me a Rolex, I think they misunderstood when I said I wanna watch.” Giggles. I can’t lie, that’s funny.
As for the hawt women dressed in lace for October, I couldn’t help they all had old lady names. Agnes…Yvonne…Regina…is there a cougar jaguar fantasy that I don’t know about?! One thing I do not know for sure, is how all of these hot chicks are getting by eating creme puffs and In-N-Out burgers all the time.
Beyond creme puffs and greased up lady-thighs, I ran past a few articles featuring bad ass weapons and a few man movie reviews. I barely made it through the ‘Polar Bear Ate My Head!’ article after the second page featured an actual picture of the dude’s mauled head. Seriously, google it or something. Suddenly you won’t want that creme puff anymore…
Then, I landed on the page every man scrambled too before they could even get out of the magazine section of the gas station (and ended up in the bathroom alone); ‘The Superhot Secrets of Lesbian Sex.’ It’s cute how every man thinks they can casually sandwich themselves in a lesbian experience. Doesn’t anyone watch Jersey Shore anymore!?! Read More »

In honor of Earth Day, I just want to remind everyone again how important it is to start making changes in your life to live greener. I’m not saying you all have to go out right now and start a compost heap, convert your cars to biodiesel, or throw out your whole wardrobe and only buy clothing made from organic materials.
Just do something.
I know some of you are probably wondering what kind of impact you can make–you’re just a college student, after all. While you may not think that just one person makes a difference, think about it on a larger scale.
For starters, think about all the paper you go through in just one semester: you have a syllabus for every class (which is sometimes multiple pages), countless handouts from professors, and all the papers and assignments you have to print out and hand in. I know students at my school whose professors make them print out PowerPoint Presentations from the web and bring them into class, which sometimes are more than 20 or 30 pages per chapter! As I continue to try and wrap my head around Sarah Palin, the GOP’s newest Vice Presidential pick (“a woman making strides toward the white house, good!”, “a woman who thinks the government has the right to tell her what her reproductive rights are, bad!”), a few wayward comments flying around the internet and media have gotten me really confused. According to sources, Palin is on record stating that global warming is not man made, and that polar bears aren’t endangered
…What?
“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location.” Palin stated as early as a few weeks ago to a conservative magazine for it’s September issue. “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”
As a moderate liberal, I can often support Republicans and Independents, as long as I believe their brain is in the right place. The thing is…denying humans have anything to do with global warming, and working to keep polar bears off the endangered list goes beyond politics and veers into …well…complete and utter wrongness. And now (drumroll please) the news with Kandy Korrespondent
As the price at the pump soars beyond $4 in some parts of the country, President Bush attempted to distance himself from the crisis, stating during Tuesday’s news conferences,
“I firmly believe that, you know, if there was a magic wand to wave, I’d be waving it, of course […] I’ve repeatedly submitted proposals to help address these problems, yet time after time Congress chose to block them.”
These proposals for the most part have to do with allowing the construction of more coal and nuclear plants and opening of an Alaska wildlife refuge to oil drilling.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer then responded to the President’s criticism of Congress by stating,
“The president has proclaimed that he is ‘the decider,’ but this morning all he tried to do is pass the buck to someone else rather than accept responsibility for his administration’s failed economic policies and escalating gas prices.”
In related news, on Tuesday Federal Judge Claudia Wilken ordered the Bush administration to decide on whether to place the polar bear on the endangered species list by May 15th. The inclusion of the polar bear on the list will hamper the future of oil and gas development in the Artic circle. Read More »

Everyone always talks about how difficult it is to find a gift for those people who just have everything. And no one understands that more than me.
One of my best friends from school was born into an extremely comfortable lifestyle. Like private jets and large yachts, comfortable. This girl has everything. Three of everything, in fact. So, holiday time is always quite a stressful time for me as I spend days racking my brain trying to figure out what to get her.
That is when I realized that maybe the best thing to get her is something that can benefit someone else. I mean, there are only so many perfumes/bracelets/vibrators/picture frames a girl can have. Why not take advantage of this season of giving and give to someone/something that really needs it? (Note: This only works with people who are not completely spoiled and selfish jerks).
I began doing some research and found some amazing ideas for gifts that keep on giving. Any one of these would be the perfect idea for those tough-to-buy-for people on your holiday gift list:
Plant a Tree: According to the Arbor Day Foundation, “over the course of 50 years, a single tree can generate $31,250 of oxygen, provide $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycle $37,500 worth of water, and control $31,500 worth of soil erosion.” Give the gift of trees this year and you (and your recipient) will be making great changes for our future generations.
