It might be because I spend too much time in the realm of fiction (reading novels, watching movies, obsessing over tv), but I’ve been known to spend more than my fair share of time considering the pros and cons of men that don’t actually exist. The good. The bad. What they do right. What they do wrong. Why I can’t actually meet the men that Carrie Bradshaw dated.  And that’s probably partly because it’s easier to figure out the reasoning behind fictional characters than it is to figure out the reasoning of actual men. But that’s another story, for another day.

The point is that I know my fiction. I know my movies. And I know the men in those movies. And that’s why I feel perfectly justified in my list of the top ten most eligible movie men out there…

10. Richie Rich. Granted he’s a little young (Or at least he was back in the day when this film first came out.) but what he lacks in age he makes up for in cash. I mean the boy has a McDonalds in his mansion. If that doesn’t get you on this list, nothing will.

09. Harry Potter. He’s the savior of the wizarding world. Enough said.

08. Zack Mayo.  Of An Officer and a Gentleman. The one with Richard Gere. If you don’t know what I’m talking about go rent this movie right now…But back to the point. He may not be the richest or most prestigious guy on the list, but you’ve got to love a man in uniform, right? Right.

On Wednesday, I sat down after a long day of work, classes, and caffeine to find the only thing that could turn my day around waiting for me. My Glamour magazine had arrived. Eagerly, I sat down to indulge in some horoscope reading and horror story retelling. But before I even reached the cover story on Fergie I was sidetracked by something else entirely.

Glamour had listed their top six movie kisses of all time. And I have to say, I was a little disappointed.

The kisses they chose were certainly swoon worthy, but I didn’t think all of them deserved a top spot. And there were other kisses that were most definitely missing. Lots of kisses missing. Kisses that needed to be mentioned. So I selflessly spent hours and hours poring over YouTube video after YouTube video to compose this list for you, my top ten movie kisses of all time.

10. Jack and Rose, Titanic. Leo has come a long way since his days of freezing to death alongside a glacier, but I don’t think our generation will ever let him forget his days as a teen heart drop. This kiss, though not particularly impressive, sums up our teeny bopper days perfectly. It’s nostalgic and sweet and we’ll never let go.

9. Blane and Andie, Pretty in Pink. This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one Brat Pack shout out. And for me at least, it couldn’t be anything other than this movie. That final scene in the parking lot when Jack and Andie reunite at the senior prom after a huge fight just epitomizes everything I love and hate about teen angst and chick flicks. If you’ve caught any of my Saturday Reads you already know that I whole-heartedly LOVE books. And it just so happens that some of my most-loved reads are, in fact, love stories. I’m always amazed when I read a book about love and the emotions on the page completely echo the emotions I’ve felt in my heart.

I think love stories are the best example of the power of words; they strike a chord and tug at your heartstrings. As I’ve said before, the mark of a great book is one that can make you FEEL simply with words. So here is my list of the best love stories ever to be published.

1.Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

It’s a classic for a reason! Jane Austen’s timeless masterpiece about Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy continues to captivate readers almost two centuries after its publication. It is also a great read for anyone interested in history and the society of the era as that is a major player in the novel. It’s a logical love story, but touching and, again, classic!

2. PS, I Love You by Cecilia Ahern

Even though I’m sure everyone has seen the movie, the book is great as well! It is quite different from the movie, making it a worthwhile read regardless. This book is unique because it explores a relationship and love that defies even death. Holly learns to move after her husband, Gerry, dies, but realizes that she will always love him and he will always love her, too. It’s not only heartfelt, but teaches an important lesson that just because a relationship ends, the love may not die off. Read More »

The one trend we’re always happy to see resurface?

The gorgeous cameo.

This intricate form of carving dates all the way back to ancient Greece, but seems to make, well, a cameo every century for a period of time. In Britain during the 1700s and 1800s, for example, King George III and his granddaughter, Queen Victoria, loved cameos so much that they were responsible for them becoming mass-produced.

And you know what? The cameo is back in fashion once again!

One thing you should know about me is that I’m a total dork. I obsess over TV shows, movies, books, and pretty much everything else you can obsess over. My poisons include graphic novels, Harry Potter, and everything Joss Whedon has ever made. I’ve got geek written all over me (especially when I wear my Gir t-shirt)

But the one hyped-up fantasy series I can’t understand is Twilight, the teen vampire romance by Stephenie Meyer. Well, since I haven’t actually read the books, it would be more accurate to say I just don’t get why my friends want to marry a pale, sunken-faced vampire by the name of Edward Cullen.

For the past few months, I’ve been receiving Facebook bumper stickers about it, the movie version of Twilight is slated for release in December (and already is generating an insane amount of buzz in the entertainment industry), and a library a couple of towns over from me is even hosting a freaking bridal shower for the two main characters when the fourth book, Breaking Dawn, is released on Saturday.
