Will and Kate (oh, excuse me, Catherine) were boring. Is that blasphemy? Whatever. They are two of the least entrancing celebrities ever to be shoved down my throat.  How am I supposed to be enthralled by a “fairytale” when the characters were even less interesting than a comatose Sleeping Beauty. Luckily, Pippa Middleton was around to add some sass and excitement. I honestly didn’t follow that much of the royal wedding coverage, but from what I understand, she’s sort of an Olivia Palermo mixed with a little bit of old school Nicole Richie and a dash of Paris Hilton. Essentially, flawless. Her style is, of course, impeccable- a solid mix of structured and boho-inspired.

We are so very close to jacket weather, and I couldn’t be more stoked. I am obsessed with cropped blazers, especially this crisp white one with a subtle ruffle detail. Hello, new autumn staple. This nude maxi dress is also speaking to me. I love how it flows and drapes so flatteringly, instead of looking like a tablecloth. These peep toe wedges are a great casual footwear option, and the espadrilles complement the leather tote nicely, creating a really earthy aesthetic. I’m exhausted. I’m a little buzzed. And if I never eat another cucumber and cream cheese sandwich again I’ll be perfectly content. But despite all that and the fact that the Royal Couple merely pecked one another for the big moment, I wouldn’t change it for anything. (OK, maybe if I had actually been invited to the wedding, but whatev.)

Yes, like so many others around the world, I woke up at the butt crack of dawn this morning to watch Prince William marry Katherine Middleton. Time differences are brutal, especially across a body of water. I spent last night and this morning watching news coverage with a few friends who were willing to forgo sleep to witness history. Let me emphasize, few. My mass-text invitation was not well received, but I needed to watch, at any cost. We all have our own reasons, including my Mom who “was just up, and had nothing else to watch.” My reasons, however, and much more substantial. Kinda.

The Dress.

They say it’s easier to find The One than it is to find The Dress. I can’t comment on that as I am having a really difficult time finding anyone at the moment, but with Kate’s impeccable style, I just couldn’t sleep until I knew which Brit designer she went with. And it was totally worth it. Kate, now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, looked absolutely stunning in her long sleeved lace dress. And that train? That’s the kind of thing only a Princess can pull off.

The Hats.

JFK’s Inauguration was the end of hat wear in America, but that hasn’t stopped the Brits from embracing the toppers like never before, crazy feathers, jewels, ribbons and all. I’m sure it was rather annoying for whomever was sitting behind some of these women, but after seeing that serious head wear, I’m totally starting a movement to make hats to be all the rage in 2012.

Prince Harry.

He’s still single, girls! Plus, he’s young , still has a full head of hair (Score!), and he’s super funny and doesn’t take anything too seriously. (Don’t believe me? Google image search him–he’s the master of candids and funny camera faces.)

Monarchies are awesome.

Sure, I love America, but there is something so fancy about watching Princes and Dukes, Duchesses and Princesses, and, of course, the Queen of England. It’s like a Disney Movie, only without the singing and dancing animals.

What can I say, I’m a sucker for romance.

She’s a “commoner” who has become a Princess. She married her college sweetheart. They’re totally and obviously in love. It’s the grandest wedding I’ll ever see. I mean, I’m the girl who stays in on Friday nights to watch ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ reruns; how could I not get up and watch this?

Plus, everyone likes to watch pretty people kiss, or is that just me?

London.

I visited the city last year during my semester abroad and I loved it. Since I can’t actually be outside Buckingham Palace and Westminster Cathedral, the least I can do is reminisce about my trip through the TV. At 3 am.

Two Words: David. Beckham.

You think he looks good on the field? Nothing compared to how he looks in a suit. Yum.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to take a nap.

Some of you are probably all, “WTF? I’m not waking up at the ass crack of dawn to watch Prince William marry some hussy that isn’t me!” I get it. I’m not sure I’d wake up that early if I myself was marrying a Prince. But this is major. It’s a royal wedding, the likes of which we’ve never seen. Even if you don’t care about English Royalty, you have to wonder what a $28 million wedding looks like, right? Plus, it’s Friday, which means you might still be up (or walking home) from your Thursday night festivities, so why not watch?

But if you’re going to watch, you can’t just kick back in bed and flip on the TV. You have to make it an event that the Queen herself would be proud of. That means you need some sort of fancy finger food, and obviously a tiara or three. But don’t you fret, your friends here at CollegeCandy have you covered! Just follow our guide and you’ll feel as fancy as a princess (no ball gown required).

The Invitations:
Although fancy scrolls hand-delivered by a man in tights would be preferred, it might be best to opt out and send some fancy evites. Or, if you’re in a pinch, Facebook events are always super easy and speedy quick. Just make sure to include a “hear ye!” in there somewhere.

The Setting:
If you live in the dorms try to get your RA involved! Not only will it take the pressure off of you for supplying snacks, but you can enjoy the festivities with more people. Try to host your royal get together in a study lounge (with a TV, obviously), where everyone can drag their tired rumps to partake in the festivities comfortably. Dress up the normally bland room with some English and Union Jack flags. And if you’re feeling like an overachiever, add some roses (the flower of England), daffodils (the flower of wales), and pictures of Prince Harry (the flower of my heart) for some extra ambiance.

If the study lounge is out, though, just host it in your room (be sure to make your bed!) Set the mood with some white Christmas lights, or print out pics of the Royal Family and line your walls with them so you feel like you’re right there in the action.

The Outfit Choice:
Obviously, no one has the energy to slip into their favorite ball gown at the ungodly hour of 4 am, but you can’t just wear any old Greek Week t-shirt for such a fancy occasion. Instead glam things up by pairing that sexy cami you bought for a romantic evening with the BF with a pair of PJ pants (and hide your legs under a blanket so as not to offend any Brits). Oh, and maybe throw on a plastic tiara to add a little something something to your ensemble.

The Food and Beverage:
For beverages you’ll have to go big or go home with the caffeine if you want to stay awake for the big kiss. Although most of the royal party will be enjoying their tea, you’ll want to stick to some Starbucks or DD (or 12 cans of Red Bull) to get through it; just make sure to pinky up…it adds class (even to foam cups.) That being said, a mimosa or two wouldn’t hurt either.

Food wise, although cucumber sandwiches might be standard, a bagel smothered in cream cheese might be the better choice for a 5am wedding. Or go all out with a (microwave friendly) breakfast buffet: pancakes, scrambled eggs (yes, you can make those in the micro!), croissants, etc. But really, anything but leftover pizza or Chinese food from the night before would be OK.

See? Planning an event fit for royalty isn’t that hard, and it doesn’t cost near Benjamins they’re shelling out over in London. All you need is a little creativity and a lot of caffeine to party like the royals do.

Oh, and remember: if a commoner like Kate could snag a prince, you can too! (Even if Prince Harry is taken. Wahhh.)

According to Jezebel the prince and his blushing bride will be inviting six of their exes to the wedding. ( 2 of hers. 4 of his). And apparently there’s some sort of etiquette behind this that requires them to do so. But I mean, come on. I know they’re royalty and all and they don’t have much of a choice, but is this something the rest of us are going to have to do as well? I hope not. Because I definitely won’t be inviting my exes anywhere. I don’t even want to see them at the coffee shop never mind at the rehearsal dinner…

This train of thought of course, got me thinking about my own ex encounters, which had me cringing and triumphing  at each one in turn.  And this of course had me thinking about the dos and don’ts of ex-boyfriends, and that, of course, is how you wound up with this list.

Do remove your ex from your Facebook feed. Seeing his obnoxious statuses about babes and beer everyday is not going to help you get over him. The more he pops up on your newsfeed the more you’ll want to head over to his page and stalk him read through his wall. Avoid the temptation and hide him!

Don’t remove your ex from your Facebook friends. Hiding him is one thing, but deleting him is something else entirely, and it’s a big no-no. Not only because to him it means you cared enough to be mad enough to delete him, but also because as much as you don’t want to know what’s  going on with him, you’ll want the option to be there. Trust me on this one.

Do give him a coy smile and a quick hello if you see him out and about. Seeing the ex again is inevitable, especially on a college campus where everyone goes to all of the same bars and all of the same events. So don’t avoid him or pretend like you don’t see him. Just smile politely, exchange pleasantries. And then move along.

Don’t stay and chat. The longer you hang around with him, the greater your chances will be of saying something you probably shouldn’t or hearing something you probably don’t want to hear. You two broke up. Parted ways. Don’t stay and endure the awkward conversation for whatever reason you’ve come up with.

Do introduce him to your date. If you’re there with another guy, introduce him to said guy. It would be odd if you didn’t. Names are fine. No need for labels on either end.

Don’t brag about said date. Telling your ex how fab your new beau is may seem like a brilliant idea at the time, and a great way to make him jealous but it may do more time than good. I mean you can always tell when someone’s laying it on, can’t you?  That person definitely looks like she’s trying too hard, doesn’t she?

Do remember you broke up for a reason. When enduring post breakup encounters for the first time it’s easy to be hit with that rush of old feelings. You remember how cute he is or how he makes you laugh and how much fun you have and suddenly you’re heading down memory lane, no matter who did the breaking up. But remember you did break up. For a reason.

Don’t get reeled back in. I repeat, you broke up for a reason. And I’m sure it was difficult, whether you were the dumper or the dumpee, but ignoring those reasons and  jumping back into something too quickly doesn’t solve those problems. It just hides them. So keep that in mind during your ex encounters.
