When you’re little you always hear “Wait till you’re older” from piercing your ears to getting your first pair of heels to sending your very first sext. However, once you hit adolescence, it seems like you’re constantly told to “act your age” or that you’re “too old for” something. Just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you can’t bask in things from the past, K?

Here are ten things you are definitely never too old for:

1. Glitter: Although you got away with wearing glittery lip gloss and questionable glittery eye shadows as a preteen, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little glitz and glam now. Seriously, if Lady Gaga and Katy Perry can rock glitter on a daily basis, so can you. Not sure how to pull off glitter without looking like a five-year-old that got a little too crazy at the arts and crafts table? Add a glittery top coat to your nail polish or go for a subtle glitzy shimmer in your eyeshadow. Want to be a little over the top? Go for the gold in a metallic glittery shirt. Worst case scenario is that you look like a Claire’s employee. Best case: you look hot.

2. Pigtails: Preschoolers aren’t the only ones that can rock this look. While you probably don’t want to be known as “pigtail girl” around campus, going out with pigtails could be a fun and flirty alternative to your everyday hair. You probably had your pig tails pulled up high, so for a more-adult approach to this look that you’re never too old for — sport them lower. Also, pigtails work incredibly well when you’re working out.

3. Licking the bowl of batter: You know you did it when you were younger. Your mom baked a cake and you couldn’t keep your little hands out of the chocolately goodness. Go ahead — dip your finger in the mix. Or, just dig in with a spoon. Or don’t even cook the batter and just go after the cookie dough. You’re definitely not too old to enjoy any kind of sweets — baked or not. Go ahead, no one’s looking!

4. Sleeping With A Stuffed Animal: Just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you have to leave your favorite stuffed animal at home, you know the one that you have been sleeping with since you were two years old. While you probably shouldn’t bring your Beanie Baby collection and your CareBear stuffed animal set along with you, you don’t have to give up your best bed buddy entirely now that you’re 21. However, we do recommend you refrain from setting up your Polly Pockets on your dorm desk.

5. Reading Books For Girls: Who says that just because you’re an English major writing a thesis about Shakespeare’s heroines that you can’t appreciate your favorite book as a fourteen year old? Even though you aren’t writing essays about the importance of Harriet the Spy, it doesn’t mean you can’t go back to those old books you loved. Now that you’re older, maybe you’ll get something entire different out of them. Also, just because you never got the chance to read that Judy Blume novel you wanted to read, you don’t have to give up hope. Read it! No one will judge you reading a book for a high school girl. You can still feel young at heart with each turn of the page.

6. Disney Movies: Every group of girls should at least have a Disney night throughout their college career. Remember how you loved The Little Mermaid so much? Watch it. You don’t always have to watch rated-R movies and crappy comedies about bromances. For so many kids, Disney was a main staple, so chances are that you and your friends will all have your own opinions about the best movies and the best Disney princesses.

7. Calling Your Parents: So you had a bad day in class — call your mom and cry about it. Although you may feel silly calling your mom to cry when you’re away at college, it’s not silly at all. You used to do it all the time, back in the days of glittery lip gloss and tutus. Not only will you feel better to be consoled by your mom or dad, you will make your parents feel like you still need them. In fact, call your parents frequently. I’m not talking about every day, but check in and say hi. Just because you’re out of the house doesn’t mean you can’t count on them. However, I think it’s safe to say that the one time you shouldn’t call your parents is when you’re drunk…all you need is one slurred word and they’ll have campus safety on the lookout for you.

8. Top 40 Hits: Just because it’s 2010 and the Backstreet Boys haven’t had a major hit in a few years doesn’t mean you can’t rock your body and sing along to “I Want It That Way.” In fact, you’re never too old for top 40 hits from back in the day. Remember when Britney was a school girl with pigtails? If not, you should re-vist this because no matter how grown up you are, pop music can still make you feel whatever age you were when it was a hit. Instant nostalgia anytime, courtesy of iTunes and the radio!

9. Old TV Shows: You are never too old to go back and re-watch TV series’ such as Boy Meets World, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and Clarissa Explains It All. In fact, you’re never too old to indulge in the drama of your favorite coming-of-age WB (remember when it was called the WB?) shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While these shows might be a blast from the past, it doesn’t mean you can’t watch them with as much glee as you once did.

10. Saying “When I Grow Up”: Just because you’re “grown up” now doesn’t mean you can’t think of the future and what you want it to bring you. With the same vigor that you possessed when you were dying for your mom to paint your nails, get excited about the future and when you “grow up.” Don’t be scared to say things like “I’ll get botox when I grow up” and “I can’t wait to grow up and not drink boxed wine.”

Let someone else talk, lawyer!

Before the hurricane of tears that will be next week’s season finale of The Bachelorette, Monday night gave us one last chance to revisit some of our favorite men who sadly didn’t receive a rose from Ali. While the only people we wanted to see some faces were strategically missing (ahem: Justin R., Frank, and Evil Craig M.), the ones that were present were all smiles and had nothing but sweet things to say about a certain blonde who gave them the boot. I was expecting at least one of the guys to ask Ali a “hard” question when she finally came out to talk to them, but alas, it was still all sunshine and butterflies.

The lack of drama, however, didn’t mean there weren’t points where I found myself grimacing, lusting, and laughing with a mouthful of seltzer water (that really hurts, btw). Here were my favorite moments of the evening:

Chris N. as the “Phantom”

So that explains why we never saw him! I knew I wasn’t alone in asking, “Who the hell is that?” every time he came on screen this season. The clips of him lurking in the steamy, luminescent water as Chris L. says in the background, “He’s totally in his natural habitat” were beyond amazing. Looks like we found Nessie!

Weatherman referring to Ali as being “mystical”

Uh, Jonathan…she’s a girl, not a unicorn.

Jesse’s shaved head.

Hot damn! I mean he was good looking before, but now…psh! Long gone are the days of pick-up trucks and cow tipping. We’re definitely not in Missouri anymore.

Yup, Kasey still wants to guard and protect Ali’s heart…

Okay, so Kasey’s still crazy. The guys still think he’s crazy. Even Chris Harrison still thinks he’s crazy. But you know what? Tonight, crazy as he may be, he kinda made sense about one thing. I’m paraphrasing here, but basically Kasey said that even though he laid it on thick with all the singing and the love confessions, he’d rather Ali remember him as one of the “good guys” instead of one of the deadbeats who left her. He said that despite not receiving a rose, he’s still glad that he got to be one of her positive memories. Granted, “positive” is subjective, but the sentiment was nice.

…And yup, Kasey still sings.

He just had to squeeze one more song in there, didn’t he? When will he realize that no one can even understand what he’s saying! (Though that’s probably for the best…)

La Bacheloretta

Hola! How much did you love when Craig R. was rattling off a little Espanol with Roberto? And when Weatherman jumped in with some crazy Spanglish hybrid! These are the moments they need to show during the season. Amid all the crazy drama, it would be good to see the guys goof off from time to time.

Chris L. making people pee their beds.

From Day One I’ve loved Chris, and when he pulled some serious summer camp hijinks in a Turkish hotel, I just loved him all the more. Don’t act like you’ve never put a sleeping person’s hand in a bucket of warm water. It totally makes them pee!

The Bachelor Pad preview

You better believe I’ll be tuning in to watch the hot mess that is the Bachelor Pad. Did you see that montage of nervous breakdowns, drunken hookups, and verbally abusive arguments!? I swear I counted at least three hot tubs. With the bar raised so high, there’s an Emmy in that show’s future for sure.

And now for the final rose! Can you believe it, another season of The Bachelorette is about to come to a close. I, for one, have no clue who Ali is going to pick next week or if the rumors are true- that she picks no one. So who do you think it’s going to be, Roberto or Chris?

I’ll be back next Tuesday to discuss all the finale’s events; in the meantime leave your predictions below!

P.S. If she doesn’t choose Chris, he’s mine so BACK OFF.

True story: after Craig R. got sent home on The Bachelorette two weeks ago, I was a slight mess. On the one hand, I felt so bad for the guy. He had to cover himself in olive oil and wrestle men in tight black pants on national television…and he still got the boot. And he looked so sad. So, so sad.

On the other hand, Ali didn’t want him, which meant he was single and ready to mingle….with me.

Once I regained my composure and put down the tub of hummus I may or may not have been crying into, I did what any normal person would do: I Facebook-stalked the sh*t out of the guy and tracked him down. I just needed to woo him talk to him, find out what went wrong and get the dirty deets on what goes on behind the scenes at The Bachelorette.

Fortunately, my FB skills paid off and I found him.
Unfortunately, he may or may not have already found a rebound lady.

CC: Had you watched The Bachelorette before coming on the show? Was applying for a spot your idea or did someone apply for you?
Craig: I watched Ali’s season of The Bachelor because I had was told that the Bachelorette would most likely be one of the contestants from that season. Applying for the show was actually my good friend’s idea. He felt that I would be great for the show and he had complete confidence from the minute he submitted the application that I would ultimately be chosen. I never expected to be chosen and it was a real surprise when I got the call!

CC: What is the application process like?
Craig: The application and interview process is somewhat rigorous, including a background check, numerous phone interviews, and a sit down interview with the producers. The producers ask a variety of questions regarding dating history, family life, hobbies, ambitions, characteristics I am looking for in a girl, etc. They really try to make sure that the guys that are chosen will be a good match for that season’s Bachelorette.

CC:Did you know Ali was going to be this year’s Bachelorette?
Craig: I did not know Ali was going to be the Bachelorette until after I agreed to be a contestant. However, I was rooting for her to be chosen as the Bachelorette as she was the girl I felt most compatible with from her season.

CC: Well, it’s a good thing that worked out for you. It would have been awkward if it was someone you didn’t like when you got out of the limo…. Anyways, onto the show. When you’re on the two-on-one dates, what does one guy do while Ali and the other guy are off talking? Are there a lot of awkward alone-time moments on the dates?
Craig: I never had the opportunity to go on a two-on-one date. During the group dates, when one guy gets pulled aside by Ali, the other guys usually sit around and talk, or we may do interviews (referred to as “In The Moments”). There are very few awkward alone-time moments on dates. For the most part, many of the guys had a lot of charisma and Ali is so easy to talk to that it was rare to find an awkward moment.

CC: To be completely honest, I never understood why you had such reservations about Justin/Rated Douche Bag. I mean, his brows were a little intense, but he seemed nice enough. What didn’t I see? How did you know from the beginning that he wasn’t there for the “right reasons”?
Craig: We just had a feeling that something was not right with Justin. The first time I met him, he told me that he was in real estate and managed gyms at home in Toronto. It was odd to me that he would lie about his profession the first time that he met me. I had a rule when I got out there to never talk negatively about the other guys, but I just did not trust him from night one. The bottom line is that part of being on a show like The Bachelorette is finding balance between getting to know Ali and finding out if you have a connection while also making friends with the guys who you live with and hang with the majority of the time. [And with Justin] my thoughts were that he was there to promote his wrestling career and did not really have any intentions of wanting to be with Ali.

CC: How tight is security in the mansion? Is it reasonable to believe the guard would have allowed Justin to walk up to Ali’s place?
Craig: The mansion has a 24 hour security guard at the front of the driveway and is fenced in. I am not sure how he got past the guard. Justin was obviously very slick and was able to access a phone and sneak past the guard, but I am not sure how.

CC: Clearly this show is edited a LOT. What are some things that weren’t shown on TV that you think the audience should know?
Craig: The Weatherman sleeps with a blindfold (true story) and in Turkey while in our hotel, we created a game that we played on the dining room table. The game was called “I Can’t Believe we Slid Butter” and it consisted of a shuffleboard like rule-set and us sliding little trays off butter down the table, and receiving a certain amount of points for the closer the tray landed to the end of the table without falling off. Chris Harrison was a pro at this game and it was almost as if he had his own “Butter Table” back in LA.

CC: OK, enough about everyone else, let’s talk about you. Leading up to your elimination, it didn’t seem like you had much interaction with Ali. Was it really that limited, or was it all edited out?
Craig: Up until my elimination, I had the least amount of time and interaction with Ali than the other guys left. However, the time I had was more than you see on TV, but not much more. I definitely made the most out of the little time I had with her, but it just wasn’t enough.

CC: Yeah, it was really hard to watch you go. We were totally rooting for you, especially after the whole “Kasey tattoo” joke. But them’s the breaks, I guess. What are you doing post-Bachelorette? Does it involve Olive Oil wrestling? A new lady?
Craig: My olive oil wrestling career is right on track. I realized my true calling on this show, and am so thankful to ABC for helping me find my true profession! In all seriousness, I am back to practicing law at my firm and am happy to be back with my friends and family. I really had a tough time being out of touch with them while on the show.
Dating life has been on the back burner since the show, however, in the last few weeks I have been paying more attention and am confident that the right girl will come along. I may have already met her.

CC: What’s it like watching yourself spitting game and dating on TV? Would you ever consider being the next Bachelor?
Craig: I watched every episode so far this season, mostly with my friends and family. It is definitely weird seeing myself on TV. If offered the chance to be the next Bachelor, I would definitely consider it because I believe that the process can work, even with all that is going on with Jake and Vienna. The opportunity to be the Bachelor would really be an honor.

CC: Who do you think Ali should choose in the end? Why?
Craig: I really think that Ali is most compatible with Roberto and Chris L. After my elimination, I thought that Ty had a great shot and was really surprised to see him go last week. She seems to have a real spark and connection with Roberto. However, Chris L is a fun, quirky guy, and that is something that Ali is looking for. It should be interesting to see who she chooses.

We at CollegeCandy are also rooting for Chris L.
Mostly because we want Kirk for ourselves.

"Everything I tell you is a big, fat lie."

I’m going to resist titling this week’s Bachelorette report “Why I Should Be Selected as the Next Bachelorette” and not proceed into all the reasons why this season is kind of lackluster and how I would really do a better job. Trust me, it would be a riveting read (much like the season I have planned for myself), but I’ll spare you just this once.

This week’s episode found Justin aka “Rated R” trampling through the hotel bushes with his gimpy leg as he ran away from cameras and Ali’s hysterics. He hobbled to his ultimate exit from the show (can I get an “amen”?) after she called him out on having not one, but two girlfriends back home. (Thank God a former Bachelor contestant who no one remembers happens to live there, or Ali may never have found out!) As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, ABC aired Justin’s voicemails to home and even included subtitles so everyone could understand his garbled pleas for affection from Jessica, the other woman. Hadn’t Rated R learned anything from Tiger Woods? Cell phones are a player’s worst enemy, bro. If I were Ali, I would have removed that boot and used it to break his other leg. And then swing it at his perfectly manicured face just for good measure.

But that’s nothing compared to what Kasey’s going to do to him when he gets off that last minute flight he booked to Toronto after last night’s episode aired. Watch your back, Rated D(ouche bag).

Meanwhile, the remaining dudes packed their bags and headed to Istanbul, Turkey. On a side note, I don’t know why Ali is selecting such random places to visit…was the classic Paris, London, Rome trifecta not good enough? Maybe the City of Lights would have helped to light a fire under these people’s butts…or in their loins. Regardless, Istanbul held sexy (not really) bathhouse massages, olive oil wrestling, and shiesty carpet salesmen. How…romantic?

Let me say, officially, right now that if Ali does not wind up with any of these guys, I won’t be even slightly surprised. So frequently they all talk about feeling this elusive connection and experiencing so-called sparks. I don’t buy it. As a viewer, pretty much every date has looked forced and uncomfortable. Especially those group dates. Reall, what kind of date involves wrestling? None of them even spoke to Ali; how did that further her relationship with anyone but big ol’ Craig R. (who usually only uses his words to fight…get it?!!?!).

And Ali, girl, you’ve got to stop it with that dead girl stare you put on when someone’s talking to you. It’s creepy and everyone knows you’re zoning out, formulating a plan to get rid of Vienna and win Jake back.

But back to the show:

The episode came to an abrupt halt when Ali forwent the cocktail party that typically precedes a rose ceremony. (SCANDALOUS!) She claimed she had already made up her mind, and in a huge duh! moment, sent Craig R. packing. I don’t know if it was a lack of a “romantic connection,” the way he looked in those wrestling pants, or the fact that he got really, overly excited by fireworks (what, they don’t have those in Philly?) but Ali just didn’t want him coming to Lisbon.

The award for best quote of the night goes to Kirk, who so eloquently questioned his group date in saying, “they want me to wrestle four guys oiled up in black leather pants with their game faces on?” It was a bonus that his pronunciation of “game” sounded more like “gay” and that just made the sentiment so much more colorful. Honorable mention goes to Frank, who lied through his teeth stating, “It’s fun to watch Ali shop…I could do that all day long.” Nice try, buddy. Only Chris Harrison is smooth enough to pass off that big of a fib as fact.

Next week the show takes a hiatus for the holiday weekend and is replaced by an interview with Jake and Vienna. They’ll address the split, which we all saw coming, and separate fact from tabloid fiction. Will you be tuning in while you nurse a hangover from the 4th of July? You know I will. Nothing says “America” quite like a reality TV show couple discussing their pre-marital divorce.

Share your comments on everything Ali, Jake, and Vienna below. It’s all a hot mess, but someone’s got to talk about it.

2008 marks the 15 year anniversary of the release of Liz Phair’s middle finger of an album Exile in Guyville. Its re-release has been getting a lot of publicity on blogs and public radio stations because for many, it was a landmark album, a defining album of their teens-to-early twenties. I didn’t get into Liz Phair until after I graduated high school, but the recent hullabaloo over Exile in Guyville got me thinking about the albums that really defined my formative years. Here is a list of my top five:

5. Relationship of Command: At the Drive-In

I mostly listened to grrl rock like Tori and Fiona, but something about the rawness of lead singer Cedric Bixler’s (now of the far inferior Mars Volta) voice and the frantic intensity of the music really appealed to me. Maybe it was an outlet for my teenage anger and angst, or maybe it just made me feel cool. Either way, the album still kicks ass.

4. Rated R: Queens of the Stone Age

I listened to this album over and over after I broke up with my first boyfriend. It’s not an especially sad album, so I don’t know why it brought me so much comfort, but it really became a security blanket. I can’t listen to it now without feeling a little sad and really, really nostalgic. Which is a shame, because it also kicks ass.

3. The Blue Album: Weezer

The World Has Turned and Left Me Here was the theme song of my junior year, also known as the year of awful braces and being overlooked for a good part in the school play. I was a nerd, and Weezer understood that–they spoke for me in the most beautifully simple and poignant way a band could. Sadly, I’ve listened to this album so many times that I cannot listen to it ever again.

2. Doolittle: The Pixies

Immediately when I heard this album I knew without a doubt that the Pixies were going to be my favorite band. And seven or eight years later, they probably still are.

I wore out every Pixies album I could get my grubby little hands on and I never, ever grew tired of them. Doolittle was schizophrenic brilliance and I felt better, smarter, just listening to it. It made me want to leave my small town and strike out, it made me want to dance, and it gave me one of my most persistent role models in Kim Deal. Minus the whole alcoholism thing.

1. Boys for Pele: Tori Amos.

This album will always make me think of my best friend in high school, and driving around at all hours in her old car that hardly ran. We listened to this album and talked about our lives, our fears, our crushes, our futures, loving Tori’s impertinence, her boldness. She was the adult version of what we wanted to be, wiser for all of her youthful indiscretions.

The album, too, was all about frustration with men and relationships, and although our situations were greatly different, I felt like I understood everything she sang about.
