Cannes Film Festival is underway and that means celebs are strutting their stuff on the international red carpet. Yesterday, in support of AIDS research, stars donned their swankiest ensembles at the amfAR Cinema Gala. Sequins, stilettos and a good cause? What’s not to love! We’ve got our favorite fashions of the evening rounded up here for you to peruse. Sandra Bullock is looking pretty freakin’ amazing, if we can say so ourselves.
Who do you think looks the best?

Last night in New York City, almost every single celebrity in the history of the world attended to the 2012 Met Ball. The event was held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art where Anna Wintour & VOGUE created what could be the social event of the year for celebrities and fashion. It was a night full of glamour, beauty and amazing dresses and outfits.
I drooled over some of gowns celebs wore last night and envied them for being able to afford/buy/rent/wear these amazing designer dresses, but then I thought to myself, “Why can’t I copy them?” And I can! There are definitely ways to get these fabulous and fierce looks for less. It’s all about saving money these days while still looking like a million dollars without actually spending it!
Check out three of my favorite looks from the MET Ball and see how you can get the look for less!
Solange Knowles:

Bright yellow is perfect for the summer season, and you can take this classy, polished look and make it casual and wearable! Just add a gorgeous gold clutch and a couple pieces of jewelry to pull the look together and you’ll look like Beyoncé’s younger sister in a heartbeat.
Dianna Agron:

This Glee star looks gorgeous in this shade of green. With the perfect clutch and gold earrings, this looks could be yours for much less. Though the dress is a bit shorter than Dianna’s, it’s definitely more wearable than her floor-length gown.
Emma Stone:

Emma’s funky look can be easily be replicated with a patterned, red a-line. There definitely needs to be a poof factor involved when choosing dress similar to Ms. Stone’s. Then just add some black pumps and a great shade of lipstick and you’re good to go for way less!

Hilary Swank (now there’s someone I haven’t thought about for a while) stepped out in Paris in this purple Ferragamo frock. The outfit may or may not have caused a mini-battle among my friends. Some of my girls were digging it—but I can’t say I’m into the ensemble. For me, the fishnets aren’t really working. But again, my friends were arguing they were subtle and fun.
On that note, I might not even be sold on the dress as a whole. The top and belt have me downright giddy (LOVE) but I’m not so sure how I feel about all of the draping and tiers. Though pretty much any Italian designer has me reminiscing about my semester abroad in Italy last year, so I don’t even know if I can trust my own judgment. You say Ferragamo, I’m thinking delicious food, 1 euro bottles of wine and sexy Italian men. Hard to stay focused.
I’ll let you decide while we get back to the bickering—does she look hot, or like a hot mess?

Okay, I think I might be the only person bold enough to claim I don’t like this dress right now. But I really (really) don’t, and the people watching the Oscars red carpet with me weren’t digging it either. And then the fashion blogs began exploding with virtual applause for this Marchesa number.
I am all about the top of the gown, but the rosette drives me a little crazy. It’s young and looks to me like an awkward fabric explosion. And then there’s something about the intense gold fabric that doesn’t leave me feeling good. I would not ever want to wear this dress…
Is anyone with me? Or have I fallen off my rocker out of my stilettos?

Ah, the Oscars! The biggest night in Hollywood featuring the best and brightest stars. It’s hard to say what I love most — the anticipation leading up to the big event; the winners’ wobbly-kneed, exuberant speeches; or the over-the-top, gorgeous fashions! But really, who am I kidding? We all know the Academy Awards are about who was the best dressed actress on the red carpet. Below, here are the ladies we think should be taking home the Oscar for Best Dressed on the red carpet…

I’m leaning towards hot mess…
The former Angel opted to rock an asymmetrical navy frock with some serious (serious) gladiator sandals. So I’m all about the short in the front long in the back dresses and skirts — I own, like, four of them despite the fact my friends call them “mullet” pieces…
They’re totally flattering because you can still show some skin but get total coverage on the back of your legs (good bye cellulite!). I am all about the dress but these shoes are really irking me. For such a beautiful woman, and a pretty fab dress, I am left thoroughly disinterested. Read More »

Rose Byrne opted to wear a vintage Elie Saab jumpsuit on the red carpet this past weekend. I am normally all about the rompers and jumpsuits (even at fancy events like this one) but this one is leaving me pretty uneasy. Byrne certainly has the body to pull of anything but, when push comes to shove, I’m just not feeling it.
There are a whole lot of sparkles, textures and general retro-ness going on with this outfit (hello, shoulder detailing). I kind of wish I could just chop the bottom off of this jumpsuit and send the Bridesmaids actress on her way.
Come to think of it, I might fix her bob at the same time… Read More »

Award season never fails to provide an endless array of ‘best and worst’ fashion. We won’t pretend to be above it. The 2012 SAG Awards had more than a few interesting wardrobe decisions to consider. Some that even beg the question: What were they thinking? Joan would totally be suspicious.
Check out what we imagine had to be running through these celeb’s head as they were getting ready for the red carpet.

Something just feels a bit off to me about this Marchesa dress. Lea Michele wore it to the People’s Choice Awards earlier this month. I tend to be a seriously opinionated person, especially when it comes to fashion, but I am pretty torn on this one. On first glance, I just thought she looked kind of revealed, wrapped in some thin thread that is likely to unravel at any given moment, leaving the Glee star rocking nothing but her birthday suit on the red carpet. I also don’t love the fringe on the bottom…
On second glance, I appreciate the intricate design, her pink lip, and the sheer fact that this dress isn’t very conventional. But I suppose that doesn’t necessarily make the dress attractive…
Like I said, I’m torn.
So what do you think, hot or hot mess?
Julianne is a senior originally from the Bay Area. She loves football, sushi, and sunshine. Ultimately, she spends far too much time lusting after red-soled shoes and reading fashion blogs.

Ok, so maybe I’m a little extra heated because she’s apparently engaged to my dream man, but I think that Biel could do a lot better than this lacey frock by Elie Saab. It was almost as though she was flaunting her romantic news (even though I can’t spy a ring or JT!) by wearing a wedding gown-like dress. Slow down there honey, you’re not walking down the aisle yet!
There is a whole lot of lace going on and I am really not into the little flower belt thingy either. I feel like she’s channeling her inner G-ma with this one…
Definitely not bringing sexy back.
The one thing I’ll give her is perfect styling. The simple nude lipstick and flowy hair was necessary for such a statement dress.
So what do you think, hot or hot mess?
