When the temperature takes a dip, celebs know to toss all their designer duds into Louis Vuitton duffel bags and head to some of the most exclusive tropical locales in the world. Luckily for us, the paparazzi are never far behind and we get to creep all over their vacations via the internet. Okay. So I guess the news wasn’t really that big of a deal after all. I mean, what celebrity doesn’t have a fragrance these days? No, really, what celebrity doesn’t? Reese Witherspoon is actually the 465th celebrity to ever do this. That’s a lot of celebrities and definitely a lot of scents, which has gotten me thinking: How exactly do they create these scents? What are the ingredients? They must be relevant to the celebs themselves, right? You know, to set them apart. Well, if that’s the case I’ve got a few ideas on what must be in each of them.

[Welcome to Celebrity Chic on the Cheap, where our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities (Jessica Szohr, anyone?) are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.]

Reese Witherspoon has been flying under the radar for awhile. I hate to think her time has passed, but lately, I haven’t been super compelled to see any of her projects (and apparently I’m not alone, if the performance of her latest flick “How Do You Know” is any indication…) It’s a bummer, but there will always be a place in my heart for the woman who so brilliantly brought Elle Woods to life.

And apparently the paparazzi is equally as enamored of her, because lately (read: since her engagement), we’ve been inundated with tons of Reese photos: “Reese walks with her fiance!” “Reese goes shopping!” “Reese drinks a latte…while Jake Gyllenhaal cries himself to sleep!”

It was only recently that I’ve started to notice her great sense of style. Reese has a grounded, comfortable, girl-next-door aesthetic. While not flashy, it’s totally relatable and always looks very effortlessly put together. And it can be done at a fraction of the cost.

Shopping Deets: Jacket, Leggings, Tunic, Boots, Bag, Scarf.

This outfit looks so toasty, without being bulky or awkward-looking. This gray and black faux fur coat is both functional and cute (and, hello, CHEAP), and this super adorable (and thick!) ruffled scarf adds a feminine flair. Adding a grey tunic and some black leggings is a casually chic look, and add some sexiness with some basic knee-high boots. A to-die-for pink clutch adds some much-needed color to any otherwise neutral outfit.

This is the perfect winter day look – it’s simple, warm, and not at all schlubby, and when it’s -9183 outside, it’s pretty unreasonable to expect a ton more.

We get it, it’s not her it’s you. You will always be friends. The split was amicable. Whatever, let’s be real, K? Break ups happen for a reason. So, what could possibly have driven Jakey poo away from T. Swift?

Well I think I know…

Reason # 1: Singing in the shower
We all do it, usually belting out some Christina circa 1997 (Genie in a Bottle, anyone?) But for Taylor…I mean we’ve all heard those live performances; maybe Jake just couldn’t take it. It takes a strong man to hear someone botch “Remember December” over and over again. Maybe Jake just wasn’t strong enough?

Reason # 2: He wanted to be Taylor’s next hit song
Maybe it’s true and he really does love her…or maybe he only dated her so he could break up with her and have a fierce song written about their relationship. Because, let’s be real, the ones about break ups are way better than the love songs (well minus ‘Mine’).

Reason # 3: Reese Witherspoon…
So Jakey finds out Reese is engaged, and goes into a downward spiral that revolves around E! and an endless supply of Cherry Garcia. After a week of crying in front of the TV in his favorite leopard-print Snuggie, Jake snaps out of it and leaves Swifty in the dust as he attempts to get his dear Reese back.

Reason #4: The age difference
9 years HUGE…especially when the younger partner just turned 21. Maybe Jake got a little tired of being asked if his daughter would like another Shirley Temple?

Reason #5:  Stage 5 clinger
After listening to “Mean” one would assume maybe Taylor doesn’t have the best track record with friends. Which Jake also found out when he wanted to hang with his boys and Taylor wanted to hang with him. All the time. “How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days” style. Suffocation isn’t a good look on anyone, especially the Jakester.

Reason #6: Boring
“Oh, you’re wearing your hair curly again? With a sequins dress? Awesome.”

No one will ever know the true story of how or why Swiftenhaal split, well at least not until Taylor lays down some new tracks, but as someone who knows these two well (I mean, Taylor and I are basically BFF), I think I got pretty damn close.

Maybe in an attempt to make up for all the cheating and divorcing that went on this past year, half of Hollywood seemed to get engaged over the holidays. I guess they really let the Christmas spirit get to them. Either way, congrats celebs. I only hope that at least one of these couples will still be around come 2012.

Poppin’ Champage, New Years Eve VIP Style

1. Natalie Portman is knocked up. And she’s getting married! Hey, at least they’re doing this the right way. Natalie got engaged to her choreographer from Black Swan, Benjamin Millepied, over the holidays. The announcement was a total surprise to everyone since we were too busy being psychologically warped by her movie to even care about her personal life.

2. Elton John became a happy daddy. Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish are now proud daddies to a little baby boy. He was born from a surrogate mother on Christmas Day, and his name is Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. Whew, that’s a long name – but at least it’s normal-ish. This is a super cute Christmas story, so congrats guys!

3. Reese Witherspoon is also engaged. To continue with this string of new engagements are Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, who recently confirmed that they’re getting married. I can’t help but be jealous of Reese’s romantic life, which includes Ryan Phillippe and Jake Gyllenhaal, but I don’t know about this guy… I mean, I guess he’s kind of hot. Either way, congratulations are in order.

4. 84-year-old Hugh Hefner gets engaged… to a 24-year-old. To which I can only say… ewwww. Hugh Hefner proposed to his girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Crystal Harris, over the holidays. Hugh tweeted the news, saying, “A truly memorable Christmas Eve.” Yeah I would say so. I vommed all over my grandmother when this news forced me to picture Hugh naked.

5. Kelly Osbourne went a little bit crazy. Back to the insane celeb stories we’re a little more used to. Kelly’s boyfriend Luke Worrall, who she’s been dating for the last two years, has apparently been cheating on her – something Kelly unfortunately found out about over the holidays. Aw, sucks girl. But Kelly obviously isn’t about to let him get away with it without trying to embarrass him a little – which is exactly why she let the world know how much of a dirtbag he is through Twitter. She tweeted, “All he did was use me. All girls, beware of @Luke_worral he is a using c*nt! He used me for my money a free ride.” Everyone’s talking about how insane Kelly is but, hey, can you really blame her?

NYE Spent At Home Watching The Ball Drop

1. Amber Portwood goes to jail. I know that as a gossip blogger, I’m supposed to care about these things… but I can honestly say that I really don’t care at all about MTV’s Teen Mom OR Amber Portwood. Unfortunately, I still have to read about her. And after all of the physical and emotional abuse she laid on her baby-daddy, she definitely deserves to go to jail – and definitely does NOT deserve to see her baby girl any more.

2. Rihanna and her BF Matt Kemp supposedly split. I guess love didn’t come to everyone during the holidays – Rihanna and her cute boyfriend Matt Kemp have allegedly broken up. According to Us Weekly, neither one of them are really that upset about the split. I really wonder who she’s gonna be with next…

3. Someone named Ke$ha the worst dressed of 2010. Okay, so this isn’t really news, but I just really wanted to add it because I completely agree with it. Ke$ha’s outfits are just not okay. Ever. And I know she’s trying to be as edgy and out-there as Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, but she’s just not. Celeb stylist Phillip Bloch tells her to call him, because “what you’re doing is just not working!” HA.

4. I know you didn’t think it could be possible, but even more celebs announced their engagement. Lily Allen and her boyfriend are going to get married, which is cute news…and then LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibriani also announced they’re getting married, which is just not as cute. And I say that because we all know that LeAnn totally stole Eddie right under his wife’s nose.

5. Someone wants to make a movie out of Lindsay Lohan’s life. I don’t know, this could be good, or it could be epically bad. You would think that Lindsay would be thrilled by any kind of publicity at this point, but no. Her and Dina are furious. Anyway, one screenwriter wants to take on the task of making a Lindsay Lohan biopic – and I have to say, I’d definitely buy tickets.

December is the month of holiday parties and family get-togethers. The people are cheerful, the cities are festive, and everyone is in a fabulous mood. But sometimes, sometimes, you just want to get away from all of that holiday cheer and see someone blow something up. And that’s why holiday movie releases exist. The perfect escape from reality, and the perfect excuse to sit in a dark room for hours and not talk to anyone. See it With Your Younger Sibling/Cousin

1. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treaders. Starring Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes.  The third adaptation of C.S. 1. How Do You Know. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd, and Jack Nicholson. Lisa doesn’t know what she wants. 1. Little Fockers. Starring Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner. A follow up to Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. Laugh along as Greg, who has been married to Pam for ten years now, once again tries to redeem himself in the eyes of his father-in-law at his twins’ birthday party. Out December 22. Just See It

1. The Tourist. Starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Joie.  A romance turned thriller. Depp plays Frank, an America tourist attempting to mend a broken heart when he meets Jolie. He thinks their acquaintance is an accident. It’s not. Out December 10.  Watch the trailer here.

2. Frankie & Alice. Starring Halle Berry, Stellan Skarsgard, Phylicia Rashad, and Chandra Wilson. The biographical drama tells the story of Frankie Murdoch, who suffered from multiple personality disorder in L.A. in the 1970s. Out December 10. Watch the trailer here.
