Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Let’s Get Festive

I don’t care if it’s still November. Thanksgiving is over and I’m ready for Christmas. Bring on the endless Christmas carols, spiked cider, presents and outrageous family gatherings. I understand that people are super adamant about giving Thanksgiving “the time it deserves,” but the stuffing has been eaten and pumpkins are officially rotting.

I thrive on holiday parties; I’m all about dressing up, small talk with people I haven’t seen in 10 years and yummy holiday goodies (mmm…candy canes). But coming up with outfits for all these gatherings (it seems like they are endless) gets a bit tough. I don’t have that many cute dresses…and begin to lack creativity by the end of the holiday party season.

Once again, these family festivities are the perfect situation for RTR. No repeating dresses this year… Read More »

RTR Look of the Week: Meet the Parents

Even for the most outgoing, meeting your significant other’s parents can be a really intimidating experience. You never know exactly what to expect: if they’re going to be a bit, well…different, or maybe they’ll be just like your parents (only cooler).  The best thing EVER is when there is a language barrier (seriously, it’s a struggle).

My favorite is the inevitable grilling you always receive, whether it’s intentional or not, it’ll happen. What’s your life plan? Should you tell the parents the real way you two met—at a sloppy fraternity dance party, or explain it was a chance meeting at the library instead? And so on and so forth. So many questions… so so many.

So arm yourself with this appropriate dress (read: stylish but with no cleavage or serious thigh action), pick up some flowers for mom and chocolates for dad and march right on over to the family dinner and charm ‘em. Let’s hope it goes over smoothly, remember: you can’t milk a cat, geniuses pick the color green and being careless about an open flame will not win you any points. Now that that’s covered and you’ve snagged the dress, you’re all set.

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Thanksgiving Festivities

Thanksgiving weekend is always a good time. Lots of food, old high school friends, red Starbucks cups filled with gingerbread lattes (which I’ve already spotted…too soon?) and of course, the annual night before  Thanksgiving party. This night is always bound to be one of the craziest of the year, even though everyone swears this time will be different, it never is. Sometimes kids do the high school thang, (throwing a house party) but in case you go the bar, I have picked the perfect Thanksgiving dress for you from Rent The Runway.

You can also wear this dress for holiday parties back at school! Different people, same dress, same rental…

I love this Red Z spoke Zac Posen sweetheart dress. The color puts me the mood for the holidays and the detailing on the strap is fresh and interesting. Read More »

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Getting Formal

Don’t look now, but the fall semester is coming to an end. That’s right people; I pretty much only have one semester of college left before the real world…

But here’s the good news: The last month of the semester means it’s formal time. We get an excuse to dress up, take millions of pictures and ignore the piles and piles of work we have at the end of the semester.

You find your frat-star for the evening, and I’ll find you a dress. Deal?

I want to rock this Tibi Orange Crush Sheath dress to formal for three reasons. First off, I love the bright color — this pop of color will make sure you stand out among the tons of little black dresses that will show up. Second, sleeves do wonders for me. It’s cold, so I’ll gladly take the extra warmth (and they’re nice and flattering). And third, I’m a sucker for keyholes. Read More »

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: The Perfect LBD

I am obsessed with little black dresses. Quite literally obsessed. So obsessed that whenever I am shopping for a fancy dress I have to avoid even trying on the black ones because I know I will buy them. They’re slimming, dressy and I already have all the accessories I need to style them. My closet is in desperate need of a bit of color… but we’ll deal with that another time.

I think RTR is perfect for my problem because I really (REALLY) can’t justify buying another black frock. But renting? That’s still fair game.

When searching for a lbd to feature this week, I wanted to find something a little different—not your standard tube dress or sequined one. I was hoping for a dress that mixed things up a bit. Read More »

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Classing Up Halloween!

Yes, yes I know… Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it…But what should the rest of us wear? I’m not wild about sluttin’ it up in the freezing cold nights in October (brrr), or donning a Halloween outfit that draws immense attention to each slice of pizza I’ve eaten in the past year of my lovely flaws.

When it comes to my Halloween outfits, I strive for versatility. It has to work for the day parties ( I would not want to be caught dead in front of a professor in a skanky outfit, Halloween is a Monday, FYI) while still being sexy for the night parties. How else will I attract the goblins, ghouls, LMFAO partiers, or Old Spice guys that will be running around campus?

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Birthday Suit

I’ve been having panic attack after panic attack lately; I’m officially turning 22 (and will be by the time this is published). This birthday doesn’t bring anything exciting like the last ones have… I can already drink, already vote, and already drive a car. What can you do at 22 that you couldn’t do at 21? Nothing, other than look forward to the real world…Bye Bye college.

Talk about over the hill.

Although I considered locking myself away this birthday (and every one after this one for that matter), ordering take out at 5pm, and participating in a rousing game of bingo before bedtime. I’ve since rallied with the help of my most sympathetic friends. The easiest way to make sure I don’t back out? Find the perfect birthday dress on RTR of course. With a cute dress in my closet, there’s no way I could skip out on the festivities, it just wouldn’t be fair to the frock.

My pick this week is this sexy Nicole Miller number. I like the dress because it incorporates cutout but keeps things classy—I think we’ve all seen dresses that struggle to combine both of those things, no?

You can rent this Chan Luu bracelet to complete the look.

Rent The Runway Look of the Week: Date Party

It’s officially that time of year. Sorority girls chat, gossip, and turn miniscule situations into reasons to panic. Just a little bit of drama seems to follow every set of sorority letters walking around campus.

Why is there so much commotion out of the blue?  Well, Crush Party is coming up! Who would have thought that a four hour event could stir up so much trouble. Welcome to Greek life.

Over at CollegeCandy we may not be able to steal your date back from your sister who managed to ask him first, or take care of your little who had a drink (or five) too many… but we can help you find the perfect dress on Rent The Runway!

As these date parties are such a big whoop, I couldn’t help myself—I had to select two looks this week, both of which are of a really different style. What can I say, I aim to please…

Look: 1 Edgy and Fun

You’ll stand out in this cute Tibi mini dress. It’s flirty, trendy and, personally, I’m all about metallics.

Rent The Runway Look of the Week: Tights Galore

When I’m getting ready to go out during the fall, I find myself having to choose between wearing the cute dress I’ve been dying to wear but being freezing with bare legs…or choosing a “tights appropriate” dress. It seems like that supercuteIcannotwaittowear dress never quite works with tights. It’s either too stretchy and shows tight lines on my stomach, turns frumpy when I throw tights on, or just isn’t the right color. And, to make matters worse, I’m perpetually cold. All the time.

Frankly, I’m over freezing my ass off when it starts getting chilly. My leather jacket can only do so much for the body temp. You know? Read More »

Rent The Runway Look of the Week: College Homecoming

What better excuse to rent a pretty dress than Homecoming? The weather is still nice, the school spirit is bustling and, of course, the sexy alums are back in town for a nice long weekend of shenanigans. Let’s impress the hottie you never had time to get with, shall we?

My research tells me the dress code for Homecomings varies from school to school: Some campuses require fancy duds with pearls for the big game while other schools keep it casual, so nothing will get in the way of the drinking. Either way, I think I found the perfect dress on Rent The Runway This Week.

I like this Yumi Kim dress because it is colorful (It’s perfect to rent rather than buy a color like this because it’s so memorable!) and it can easily be dressed up or down depending on your school’s dive. Throw on some sandals and a chunky cardigan for a more casual look, or this Alexis Bittar selby cuff and heels if you need a dressier ensemble.
