Chris Brown went from cute teen pop star to even cuter boyfriend of Barbadian goddess Rihanna, and ended up becoming the bad-boy of R&B. Or, more accurately, the guy who makes the music that we all feel guilty listening to because of the infamous incident.
Most of us can’t forget what Mr. Brown did to Rihanna, can’t get the images of her badly beaten face out of our minds. No matter how many catchy songs the guy attempts to put out.
So how are we supposed to feel about his upcoming stint on SNL?
Despite your opinions on how artists’ personal lives should influence their career, there’s no denying that Chris Brown messed up. Badly. In a very public way. In a perfect world, artists could pull a Miley/Hannah Montana-esque quick-change and keep their two worlds separate, but we know that’s impossible. So why is SNL choosing to promote and support him with the music guest spot on the February 12th episode?

So here we are; a brand new year. What’s more appropriate than to get it started on the right note with some fresh new music?
I’m really excited to share this month’s playlist with you all. It’s probably my favorite playlist yet. (Check out my other goodies here.) With some inspiration from the feeling of a bold, fresh new start in the air that accompanies every New Year and the help from a couple of awesome music blogs, I tried to throw in some more obscure songs this time to change things up a bit from 2010.
In this playlist you’ll hear artists you may have never heard before, unique remixes of songs you may have loved a few years ago (like Lil Wayne’s “Fireman”) and songs by hugely popular artists like Usher, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson and Rihanna you just might not know of yet. It’s one big mix! Read More »

Maybe in an attempt to make up for all the cheating and divorcing that went on this past year, half of Hollywood seemed to get engaged over the holidays. I guess they really let the Christmas spirit get to them. Either way, congrats celebs. I only hope that at least one of these couples will still be around come 2012.

2010 is officially coming to a close and what a year it’s been in music! This year presented us with an awesome array of new artists, re-introduced us to some ones we may have forgotten about, and of course, left some songs in our heads we wish we would never have to hear again.
So let’s take a look back and rock out to the 20 biggest songs of 2010. (It’s like my own little Grammy’s!!)
Some of the biggest names to enter the pop scene in 2010 include B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Mike Posner and Taio Cruz. All of them were hot able to make big names for themselves by earning multiple slots on the Billboard charts with huge hits like “Cooler Than Me.” It was a nice, refreshing change to the usual women of music (Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry) who seemed to constantly and incessantly rule the airwaves (and YouTube – I’m lookin’ at you, Bad Romance!). And while everyone was going goo goo for Gaga, I’d say Katy Perry was the real queen of pop this year, immediately releasing three megahits off her new album, Teenage Dream.
The music scene was also shaken up by the comebacks of huge artists like Eminem, Usher, and Train who all reminded the world that they’re still alive of who they are and what their music is all about in a big, overplayed way. In addition, we got to hear all different assortments of collaborations from the relatively-unknown-artists-at-the-time, B.o.B and Bruno Mars with “Nothin’ On You,” to the massively famous, all-star duo of Eminem and Rihanna on “Love The Way You Lie.” What probably startled the pop scene the most this year, however, was Lady Antebellum’s, “Need You Now.” I’m not sure I can think of any other recent country song (other than all of Taylor Swift’s, of course) that’s received that much airtime on pop radio stations. Besides Lindsay Lohan being Lindsay Lohan and a few other tidbits of news, celebrity gossip was pretty slow this week. Maybe all the stars are getting ready for the holidays, or maybe they needed a break after last week’s divorce-a-thon, but either way, I hope they do something more interesting next week. I need more scandal!

[Welcome to Celebrity Chic on the Cheap, where our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities (like "who the hell are you and why are you so beautiful" Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) are spending $5,000 on an ensemble you don’t have to.]
There’s no way I could continue to write a fashion column without highlighting Rihanna. This girl is one of the most eclectic celebrities out there. One day, the paparazzi snaps photos of her in suspenders and harem pants; the next, you could easily see her in a body-contouring mini-dress with 6-inch stilettos…going out to lunch.
Rihanna attained her fashionista status by being completely and utterly balls to the walls…how can you not love it?
However, the outfit I’m re-creating today is actually one of Rihanna’s tamer looks, because though you, CollegeCandy reader, are fabulous, you are bound to certain rules of fashion that do not apply to celebrities. Read: you can’t really pull this off for class. But it’s still hot, not just in its own right, but relative to that tragic gaggle of girls strutting around campus thinking Uggs, leggings, and Northface = high fashion. Read More »

In honor of our undying love for both music and cocktails, we here at CollegeCandy have decided to create a monthly playlist of pre-party music to help keep you in the know of some of the hottest songs, conveniently, while you get your drink on.
And to kick things off, well, you’ll have to forgive me. I’ve been in a kind of “electric” mood for some reason. And by “electric” I mean “computer generated.” But it’s not my fault; music seems to be moving in that direction. And it’s got me worried. Whenever I’m rocking out I can’t help but think, “It’s like I’m being serenaded by a computer.” Mmm… how seductive. How sensuous! Who needs a hot man on an acoustic when you’ve got this sort of sexy, raw, robotic vocals at your fingertips?
Too bad the music is undeniably catchy and perfect to drizink to. Read More »

As Hollywood stirs the pot of gossip-shaped noodles, I’m eating spoonful after spoonful. Hollywood always gives us the generous opportunity to lift all of our own emotional flounders and replace them with the train-wrecks and idiots overpopulating the City of Angels. This week, however, was rather chill for (most) celebs. Reese Witherspoon went shopping wearing floral and drank iced tea with her daughter, Sienna and Jude vacationed in Spain, Vanessa Hudgens was spotted shopping in a floppy hat and Blake Lively applied lip gloss in public (!).
Awww, the bittersweet summer in Hollyweird slowly coming to a blissful end.
Don’t worry though. A lull in August isn’t completely a bust. Here is what’s goin down in celeb town (sorry, it was too tempting).

Prop 8 Is Overturned in California and Celebs Tweet Their Phrase! Celebrity Twitter accounts exploded when Prop 8 was overturned in California. A few of my personal favorites of course involved Lady Gaga talking about bubbles and dreams. @LadyGaga: At the moments notice of PROP 8 DEATH I instantly began to write music. BUBBLE DREAMS FOREVER! Leo Granted Restraining Order. Against crazy-town Aretha Wilson who attacked the Titanic heartthrob with a beer bottle in 2005. Attacked with a beer bottle? Was it one of those new plastic Michelob Lights? Did it bounce right off his flawless face? I kid Leo, I kid. The bottle was broken and he needed stitches for the incident! And Wilson’s bail has been raised from $60,000 to $150,000 because of concern about her willingness to get back to court. I’m just wondering what he could have done to that 40-year-old women to receive wrath like that? I mean come on, he gave us Jack Dawson. Where’s the abuse-motive in that, Miss Wilson?? Read More »
