If you’re enjoying a three-day weekend right now, you have your favorite Italian to thank for that. No, not The Situation – Cristoforo Colombo! (Ok. It’s not St. Patrick’s Day or Cinco de Mayo, but for us real-life Italian Stallions, Columbus Day is as legit of a holiday as we’re going to get). So, besides an extra night of shots at the bar, why not celebrate with an easy twist on an Italian favorite–sausage and peppers!
The Ingredient: Sweet Peppers
These are one of the most versatile vegetables in any pantry. Sliced, they make a great pair with carrot sticks to dip in hummus or ranch for a snack. They’re spectacular when grilled with a lick of butter or olive oil and slapped on a sandwich. And toss ‘em in any stir fry or omelet for extra crunch. What makes the pepper so nutritious? With more than a full day’s worth of vitamins A and C, they’re poppin’ with free-radical fighting antioxidants. Read More »

Harvard just ruined my lunch.
I make spectacularly healthy (or so I thought!) turkey sandwiches for lunch every day. Fresh bread, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, turkey…. they are beautiful and healthy works of art. I’m constantly thinking of new ways to spice ‘em up. Sliced avocado? Swapping out provolone for some swiss? Perhaps a few slices of green apple? Turkey is my daily go-to; a healthy dose of protein that can be dressed up or down depending on what is (or, more likely, what isn’t) stocked in my fridge.
But it’s starting to look like my turkey days are dwindling. Sob. Researchers at Harvard and the more than one million research participants have found that much like tanning, drinking, watching TV, sitting on the computer and everything else I do in my daily life, turkey and other processed meats are officially BAD for us.
What the heck are processed meats? The powers that be define these as “any meat preserved by smoking, curing or salting, or with the addition of chemical preservatives.” Unfortunately, this covers bacon, deli meats, hot dogs, and more. Like Slim Jims and jerky. [Although, don't act surprised – did you really think Slim Jims came straight from chickens or cows or… wait, where do Slim Jims come from? Exactly.] Read More »

Ask any girl what the worst thing her boyfriend/fiancée/husband could do to her, and the answer is probably going to be the same: cheat. To most women, cheating is the ultimate betrayal of trust, which is probably why, when they find out their man’s been unfaithful, so many women get angry and seek revenge.
Scary, serious revenge.
Famous stories of women getting revenge on their cheating partners have circulated in gossip and in the news for years: women have reportedly cut up their husband’s clothing, dumped all their husband’s belongings in the front yard, and even destroyed their cars (the subject of Carrie Underwood’s hit song “Before He Cheats,” the story of one woman getting revenge on her cheating man by smashing up his car with a Louisville Slugger®). Another story tells of the wife of a British radio-talk show host, who sold her husband’s $45,000 car on eBay for 90 cents after she heard him tell a woman on the air that he’d leave his wife for her. One woman even paid for a billboard ad advertising her husband’s infidelity (see picture above)! Read More »
