Look out ladies, Carrie and co. may be heading to a theater near you all over again.

Thought these single and fabulous girls were gone for good? Well, you thought wrong!

According to our favorite celebrity insider Popeater, there are rumors of a third Sex and the City in the works. And this one would be a prequel, based off Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries. The books chronicle Carrie during her teen years, but the movie would focus mostly on Carrie’s move from Connecticut to Manhattan, detailed in Summer and the City. (Get all the gory details here!)

Don’t worry, they won’t be calling in SJP and company to airbrush their way back to teendom. Instead, it’s rumored that if and when this prequel does get made it will be Blake Lively playing Carrie Bradshaw, as she takes on her “first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.”

Wait…what?

Now I loved Sex and the City back in its HBO days, but don’t these people realize it’s time to let it go? I mean, the show ended for a reason. They ran out of story lines (and birthdays) and the girls all got their happy endings. Then they went and completely tore apart those happy endings in the first movie. And the sequel?  Well that was just one big Abu Dhabi disaster.

So why would they even want to make a third movie, new cast or not?

Insiders say they hope that a prequel will “breathe new life into the story.”  But isn’t it maybe time they just let it die?

If you’re a Sex And The City fan (and who isn’t!?), you probably recognize this famous look from the opening credits of the show when SJP is flouncing around New York, splashes in a puddle, and sees herself on the side of a bus. Carrie’s three-tiered cream-colored tutu dress was such an iconic fashion statement that it even made a cameo in the SATC movie.

Naturally, we had to wait a few years for this sweet design to hit mainstream markets, but with the appropriately titled “Bradshaw Dress” from Lulus.com, the wait is finally over. The Bradshaw dress features a ribbed charcoal racerback top, two inch wide elastic waistband, and a two-tiered white skirt.

Tank dresses have been big this season as they are both comfortable and perfect for summer weather, but I think the tutu on this dress, as Elle Woods would say, gives it a little something extra. At the price of only $32, this dress is completely irresistible.

But now, suddenly, at least one fixture of good old international dressing has returned: behold, the hat! Sarah Jessica Parker wore a green creation by Philip Treacy to the London premiere of the Sex and the City movie, complete with a giant rose and acorn-inspired base.

Treacy, a graduate of London’s Royal College of Art, burst onto the scene in the early 90′s by creating a wedding headdress for his muse, late fashion editor Isabella Blow. He (obviously) tends to go vertical with his pieces, often using feathers and butterflies (an all-butterfly headpiece was also worn by Princess Beatrice recently to the Peter Philips’s royal nuptials).

“Hats can make a boring outfit come to life,” says vintage collector Anne Schutterlin. “They’re like those beautiful flourishes on top of a cake that make it taste even better!”

Another headwear designer, editorial favorite, Patricia Underwood, takes a different approach, using the slightest of shaping tools to finish her horizontally-oriented, floppy sun hats. Underwood has been in the business 25 years, though there has definitely been a recent resurgence of her name in magazine credits. She prefers to forgo wild ornaments, rather, letting silhouettes speak for themselves.

Whichever esthetic you prefer, it is the Season of the Hat. There are no rules, of course, to combining your favorite AA ensemble with an adorable hat. Just do it. Add some fun to that wardrobe already!

Even the Chicago Tribune has a story called “Because no man should feel the agony of this film”. The author, John Klas, mentions that women “Just Don’t Get It” and thinks that by liking an Affair to Remember, he is somehow absolved from implying that all women are weepy, oversexed and overshopped and all would force their significant other to see a movie that he so clearly and vehemently does not want to see.

As Klas says, “Millions of men are sick about this movie based on a TV show about four terrifying, rich, aging, elitist women who whine about sex and men and purchase $700 pairs of shoes to feel better about themselves.”

Where is all of this anger coming from, all this righteous indignation? If you don’t want to see the movie, then don’t go see the g*ddamn movie. I have a feeling that most women would rather go see a movie with girlfriends than drag along a guy that is just going to snicker and sneer and huff and haw for the entire thing.

To take a phrase from Mr. Klas, I’m going to say that as far as Sex and the City goes, guys “Just Don’t Get It”. It’s total entertainment and fantasy, just like Scarface and The Sopranos. The show isn’t anything like real life, and that’s why women love it. It seems like men are afraid that if they go to see this movie, that shopping and bed hopping will immediately commence as soon as the credits roll. Just because my boyfriend likes to watch horror movies doesn’t mean that I think he’s going to want to go out an murder someone.

I can understand simply not being entertained by a show. I’m not entertained by most television programs and so I would never begrudge any male or female their inherent right to dislike any particular form of entertainment. Things start to get ridiculous, though, when these guys imply that Sex and the City accurately portrays women and then go on to write diatribe after diatribe about how much they hate Sex and the City.

There is something troubling in that math.

When I first heard that there would be a Sex and the City movie, my heart skipped a beat. I could not wait for the big screen continuation of our favorite gals who introduced our generation to pink cosmopolitans and Manolo Blahniks. What could be better than seeing the fab four reunited once again to give us just a few more juicy and inspirational quotes to put in our away messages?

Well, now that I really think about it, I might actually be against the movie coming out. What if it totally flops? Will SATC be a joke from then on? I feel we should let it’s glory live on in syndication. Nothing makes me happier than crawling into bed for a solid hour of SATC reruns at night. It was just too good to be repeated and I am worried that it’s too late to duplicate the magic now.

The movie may come sooner than you think. The most recent rumor is that shooting is set to begin in the fall, but actor Mario Cantone said that no one is officially signed on to the project yet.

Now, don’t get your hopes up for an exact movie release date. Rumors of the girls being reunited have been swirling around for awhile, and delays have been attributed to off screen drama between the quartet. Yet, different reports have been coming out over the past year saying that the movie is a go.

Will it actually happen? Only time will tell, but I have to say that I may rest easier if nothing comes of it and our four girls stay heroes for every aspiring trendy, modern, and urban girl out there.

Oh, and here’s one of my favorite Sex and the City quotes, just for old times sake…

“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
