1. Justin Bieber–Baby. I know, I know, he got famous from YouTube, blah blah blah. But the video just isn’t great. Why are we still watching?

2. Lady Gaga–Bad Romance. I have to admit, my friends and I probably contributed to about half of these views. It’s pretty much how we spent our entire sophomore year of college–watching Gaga do crazy things. But that’s so two years ago.

3. Shakira–Waka Waka. WHAT? How did this get on the list? I don’t know.

4. Rihanna and Eminem–Love the Way You Lie. Ehhh…not that exciting.

5. Charlie Bit Me. Okay so maybe this one deserves the spot. They’re just so cuuuuuute!

Home girl looks goooood!

I am completely and unabashedly Team Kanye, so I should have rolled my eyes and sighed most despondently when I saw Taylor Swift on the cover of Glamour this month. But I’m mildly fascinated with Miss Taylor. Maybe it’s because she rarely straightens her hair (curly haired girls represent!) Maybe it’s the way she puts all of her former beaus on blast (wouldn’t you be bitter if you got dumped by a Jonas Brother?) Or maybe it’s because although “Single Ladies” IS the best video of all time, “You Belong With Me” is definitely one of the most relateable songs of all time. And it’s fun to dance to in your underwear….

Fine, I admit it. I think Taylor Swift is utterly fabulous. I have not an ounce of shame.

Moving on.

This issue of Glamour was incredibly informative. Ashlee Simpson has a “thriving” music career. High heels tend to skew even higher during recessions. And, oh my god, it’s okay to order dressing on the salad and not on the side (oh my god, who knew it was okay to appreciate flavorful, calorie-riffic food sometimes?)

But perhaps the most enlightening piece is entitled “Weird Male Habits We’ll Never Understand.” At least, that’s what I thought before I actually started reading the content. Then I realized that Glamour just doesn’t know what fun is.

Glamour says: “Yelling directions at athletes. Who are inside the television.”
Jasmine says: Maybe I’m biased because I yell at the TV every Monday during Gossip Girl, but the best TV is totally interactive.

Glamour says: “High fiving their dogs”
Jasmine says: Awww, come on. Paw-to-hand contact is totes adorbz.

Glamour says: “Peeing in the shower instead of the toilet. Which is two feet away.”
Jasmine says: This isn’t one of my habits, but I know tons of women who do this. Hey, we all go green in various ways…

Glamour says: “Biting your nipples. Ow.”
Jasmine says: Some women enjoy rough sex.

Glamour says: “Pouring Pringles into their mouth. And then offering to pour some into yours.”

Last fall, I raced back to my dorm every Wednesday night to join in the “Glee” weekly viewing party in my friend’s room. Although we would regularly hang out and watch television, and at least sit and later discuss our other favorite shows, we would all drop whatever we were doing (even if it was a 12-page paper due the next day) and set aside special time to get together to watch the sensation that is “Glee.”

Fox’s quirky musical actually released its pilot the summer before, and a bunch of my friends told me it was more than worth watching. The pilot was amazing, and definitely had me interested, but after watching a few episodes when the season started in the fall, I was hooked. “Glee” provides the fun of musicals with the brilliance of sitcoms that I thought had died amid the “reality TV” craze.

Seriously, have you seen what’s on television these days? I can feel my brain cells dying just knowing shows like these exist (start at the 11 second mark).

But “Glee” is different. It’s smart and funny, with a great balance of witty moments and moments so incredibly awkward that I can’t look away (remember when Finn serenaded Quinn and her parents?). The best part is that, unlike similar endeavors that focus on singing high school students – like *shudder* the “High School Musical” series – Glee manages to relate to its audience while at the same time providing fun, energetic performances. It handles real issues – teen pregnancy, identity issues, homosexuality, handicaps, relationship problems – but does so in a way that doesn’t feel preachy in the slightest.

Unfortunately, “Glee” took a break from air time to make room for the evil of reality television incarnated: “American Idol.” So, instead of the talented Lea Michele, sassy Amber Riley, endearing Chris Colfer, and crazy Jane Lynch, we’ve been stuck with this.

But, at last, “Glee” is set to return next week (April 13th!!!), and I’m already singing and dancing in anticipation.

To celebrate the return of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures and to invite newbies to join the ranks of us Gleeks, let us count down Glee’s 5 best musical moments. (Note: sorry for the poor quality on some of these – apparently Fox isn’t a fan of YouTube.)

5. “Don’t Stop Believin’”- This finale number from the pilot episode is what made people come back months later to watch the show when the real season started. It was basically the unity number, when the original core group joins the Glee Club (called “New Directions”) and commits to it, even though their mentor, Mr. Schuster, is leaving because he needs a more stable, higher-paying job to support his newly pregnant wife (more on that one later). The number is good enough to make him realize that teaching – and Glee – is his passion, and brings him back, and it does the same for viewers.

4. “Single Ladies”- The show actually features two versions of this number, but this one is infamous. I don’t know much about sports, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t allowed, which is really too bad because I’d definitely watch them more often if this sort of thing were a possibility. (Not the greatest video, but just turn up the sound and start around the 2:20 mark.)

3. “Proud Mary”- Whoever choreographed this number is an absolute genius. The episode focuses on Artie’s confinement to a wheelchair, so Mr. Schu decides to have the kids do a number in wheelchairs. The result? Brilliant, both visually and vocally.

2. “Jump”- I dare you to watch this number and NOT go jump on your bed singing afterward.

1. “Somebody to Love”- Quite possibly one of the group’s most beloved numbers, second only to their rendition of Journey’s classic. It’s simple, but really shows the talent among not just the main leads showcased, but the entire group.

So enjoy, listen to the rest of the soundtrack, and get excited for next Tuesday!

For us single girls, Valentine’s Day can seriously suck. Even if you love being single, all the PDA (puke), listening to what your coupled friend’s boyfriend did or (more likely) didn’t buy them, and the concerned phone call from your mom checking up on you, gets real old, real fast. And, for the love of god, if one more coupled friend tells me I’ll “find someone soon,” I’m going to scream.

But you can make Valentine’s Day better. Why should you miss out on the gift-giving and indulgence V-Day has to offer just because you’re single? Yes it might just be another day of the year, but it’s also the perfect excuse to buy you yourself a fabulous gift.

Lingerie – Why do you need a guy in your life to buy something lacy?  Buy yourself something that makes you feel pretty and sexy, because feeling good about yourself trumps all.  This ruffle bralette from Aerie is feminine and flirty; the perfect gift from you to you.

Vibrators – It’s 2010, baby. You don’t need a boyfriend (or anyone, really) to have a good time.  These bullet buddies, available at Babeland, are a discrete, non-threatening first-time toy for any girl.  And if you’re looking for something a little more…er… well endowed, Babeland has a large selection of toys for everyone.

Indulgent Fashion Item – Which would you rather have on Valentine’s Day: boyfriend drama or a fabulous and functional L.A.M.B. wristlet?  Your attached friends will most definitely be laying out the cash for their S.O., so it’s time you splurge on the number one in your life: you.

Hot Dress – The best way for any girl to feel better about herself is to look hot. The second best way is to look hot and hit the town. Jewels - I’m a true believer in buying jewelry for yourself.  There are many benefits: 1. You know you’ll wear it, and 3. It is timeless (if you bought it, it won’t forever be known as something “what’s his name” bought you).  So all the single ladies, don’t wait for a guy to put a ring on it; go and buy your own damn ring.

It’s weird how it happens. One day you’re screaming “THIS IS MY SONG!” every time “Single Ladies” comes on at the bar, and the next…well, you’re doing the same thing, but it’s not actually true. After just over two years of being the most single person on the planet, I actually took the dive. It happened really unexpectedly with a cute acquaintance I have known for years. We started talking a little more, and things took off out of nowhere.

I used to want to jack people in the face when they said, “When you stop looking for a boyfriend, you’ll get one.” And even though that is exactly what happened, that’s still really annoying advice. I think I hate it largely because it takes the situation out of your hands; as if you have to be in some sort of cosmic state of perfect personal balance just to get a damn date. I think a better way to phrase the advice is this:

Beating yourself up over not having a boyfriend or becoming depressed that “there’s no one out there” isn’t going to make your perfect mate appear out of thin are. There are times when 5 guys ask you out in a week, and there are times when your only male interaction for months is with your Environmental Science professor (hopefully not the wrong kind of interaction…). You can control your love life, but only to a certain extent. You don’t completely control who you meet, when you meet them, or (even as much as we try) how they feel about you.

I think what these crappy advice givers mean to say is if you can be happy without a boyfriend, you won’t turn your love life into the biggest stress-sesh since applying to grad school. Hello, school is pressure, work is pressure, your parents are pressure…dating shouldn’t be. It’s not going into your GPA, so live a little. There are perks to being single, and there are perks to being coupled, so exploit what you have. Learning to enjoy your status no matter what it may be is the biggest breakthrough for women since the water bra; both help you work with what you’ve got.

While I do really dig my guy, I’m going to admit it: I already miss being single. My single friends glare at me when I say this, but I mean it. Look, just one week after finally taking the plunge into exclusivity, I met a super hot grad student from NYU while I was out (I’m pretty sure the relationship Gods were testing me). I couldn’t give him my number. It was more traumatizing for me than when my first goldfish died. So the next time you’re blubbering about flying solo, just remember; you get to mack on anyone and everyone, and you don’t have to shave your legs everyday. Love the perks while you can!

Some of us are the Charlottes who are happy knowing at the end of the day there is a guy that will be thinking about us before we fall asleep. Some of us are the Samanthas who are happy knowing we have a guy we can shag before we fall asleep. Ahh, and then there are those in between-ers like myself. We want someone to love and shag us before we tuck in for the night.

Whichever category you fall into, it’s no wonder we’re all looking for that special person to “complete” us.

Having a boyfriend brings about a sense of pride and accomplishment. It gives us all feelings of worth, self esteem and validation. Oh, and a serious case of the butterflies.

As sad as that may be, it’s the truth. Sure, the powerful and independent woman can find all of that on her own, but the fact is we’ve been taught our whole lives to want a boyfriend. Case in point: romantic movies. Those friggin’ things don’t do jack sh!t for a single girl besides motivate those starry-eyed expectations of how the majority of real guys act. Homegirl, I’m not talkin’ only about movies along the lines of “The Notebook” either. Those Disney Princess movies of carpet rides and glass slippers laced our childhood hopes of boyfriends with metaphorical crack before we got our training wheels off.

So yes, I want a boyfriend! You want a boyfriend! Your dog wants a boyfriend!

And there is nothing wrong with that. It is normal to want to have someone to talk to at the end of the day and to remind you how amazing you are. Someone who is going to give you bear hugs, forehead kisses, and be an olympic gold-medalist cuddler. It’s a part of the human moral fiber.

So for those cynical singles who won’t admit at the end of the day that they truly do want “that special person,” stick that in your juice box and suck it! Claiming you don’t want one may make you feel better about the fact that you don’t have one, but I truly feel that everyone deep down wants a boyfriend.

[I like to think of myself as a pretty easy going gal, and try not to sweat the small stuff. But sometimes (ok, maybe slightly more often) the general cluelessness, carelessness and overall stupidity of some things and or/people really gets to me. I find that venting is the most efficient way to rid myself of the stress that idiots, wrong meal orders, lack of cell phone etiquette and cheese flavored products (that don’t even contain any freaking cheese!) induce.

So, in an attempt to avoid an ulcer or an unfortunate road rage incident, I vent to you, dear reader. Please feel free to join in and comment about anything–really, anything–that pissed. you. off. this week. Let it all hang out. I feel you.]

Ex-boyfriend calls out of the blue (at 3 am).

Although it would be mighty enjoyable to deny your calls during daylight hours, I just couldn’t muster up the proper amount of excitement about ignoring you as I was attempting to sleep. At 3 am. As most (okay some) college students are doing on Wednesday nights. It was, in fact, incredibly irritating to listen to my phone vibrating violently until it buzzzzed right off my nightstand, unplugged itself from my charger and died early the next morning, preventing me from whiling away my classes with interesting texts and Facebook stalking.

It seems that you still find ways to annoy the sh*t out of me, even technologically! Your call was especially appreciated by my new (and way better) boyfriend, who happened to be sleeping next to me and was quite frankly a little pissed off for the entire next day due to sleep deprivation and extreme annoyance with you. The only consolation I got from your obnoxious ass was the touching voicemail you left me (I believe you were crying) slurring on and on about how great I am. Well, I think it’s a little too late for that, mister, and so does everyone else who listened to it (aka 48 of my sorority sisters with a tendency to gossip)–although they did get a great laugh out of listening to your blubbering for 3 minutes.

Re-runs of The Office when you specifically cancelled Thirsty Thursday to curl up with Jim and Pam.

Any college student can tell you how vitally important Thursdays are to the bar, social and (for my single ladies) the sexual scene on campus (um, VERY). So it’s a heart wrenching decision when I decide to spare my liver and my wallet on the occasional Thurs, order myself an entire pizza (not that I’ll eat it all at once or anything…) and wave a bittersweet goodbye to my dressed up friends waltzing out the door with our good friend Franzia tucked under one arm. Any regret of staying in usually vanishes upon the beginning of my favorite Comedy Night Done Right component: The Office. And then it’s a repeat. I already know that Jan had her baby before the shower, that Angela gets screwed out of both Dwight and Andy, and that sadly, Michael will not win Holly back. What I do not know is how to deal with the intense anger and grief that accompanies my realization that I have 20 minutes to get ready, get my ass to the bar and start chugging before Beat the Clock is over. You may have won this week NBC, but I’ll be watching next week’s episode on Hulu while I’m hungover Friday afternoon.

Scented Candles.

It seems like I buy a new scented candle anytime I go anywhere. At the mall, it’s Bath and Body Works to splurge on White Barn. At home it’s buying fundraising candles from younger cousins or my mom’s co-workers. At Walmart it’s just me going buckwild on the candle aisle (they’re like $2.99 for a 20 ouncer! I’d be crazy not to take advantage!). Every time  I come home with a new candle, find a strategically awesome place to put it so that it matches the room’s color/vibe/purpose/season/whatev and light that bad boy up, I get a little feeling of wonderfully scented satisfaction. Fast forward to two weeks later. My formerly awesome candle just doesn’t have the same pungency. It’s not as pretty now that all the wildflowers in the wax are long gone. In fact, the wax is kind of crazy and gnarly and isn’t cute at all. And that’s if there’s even any wick left.

Most of the time it just burns down to the bottom and I’m left with a glass jar of wonderfully scented garbage. I don’t even have any surface area left in my room to put things down on. Just jars and jars of various candles that I occasionally sniff and can’t bear to throw out. I think it’s turning into a problem, so I’ve resolved only to buy 4 candles a year (so they’re seasonally appropriate, and I won’t feel bad about shelling out for Yankee Candle in the recession.). Yet everywhere I go, a new candle with some pretty ribbon or delicious scent taunts me and tries to lure me back to the dark (light and fragrant?) side…

When your roommates go on dates with a**holes.

More specifically, when I’m the designated meet and greeter for said a**holes. I have better things to do than get the door for you and make small talk while my roomie finishes making herself hotter (for your benefit!). The least you can do is be polite, don’t turn on MY TV without permission and not take the phrase “make yourself comfortable” to the extreme (removing jacket, perfectly acceptable; removing shoes and socks while you wait for 15 minutes—not so much.) And I would have thought that it goes without saying, but um, don’t be f–ing rude to a friend of the girl you’re most likely gonna try to hook up with later (because I will c&ck block you with all of my best efforts).

Being rude includes, but is not limited to: Answering my small talk with nods, only speaking to ask where the shot glasses are, proceeding to nonchalantly smoke pot in my living room, chase aforementioned shot with my last Diet Snapple, eavesdrop on me telling my boyfriend that I have a headache, or suggest that a good remedy for headaches is an intense workout—and that I should try it sometime. Don’t worry, I’ll catch your date up on your rude behavior via text message while the two of you enjoy your evening out.

And all the V-Day mumbo jumbo has been infiltrating our lives and reminding us that we are alone since freaking Christmas Day.

There are many other days in the year when being single rocks, and a lot of us are completely fine with our not-so-relationship status, but something about the cutesy gifts and the kissing couples brings a lot of girls down.

But it doesn’t have to! With all that annoying looove stuff comes some awesome Valentine’s Day goodies. In the form of chocolate and booze. That you can enjoy regardless of your single status.

So here are some treats you can make with your single friends, buy on clearance on February 15, or, since V-Day is on a Saturday, truly drown your single sorrows with.

If you’re alone this V-Day, treat yourself or another single girl to some delicious chocolates from Godiva or Lindt chocolates. They are relatively inexpensive and very tasty. Who says you can’t buy love?

If you and your other single gal-pals are looking for a fun way to spend V-Day in, why not make some tasty treats that you can enjoy together? It’s just you and the girls so you don’t even have to worry about over eating.

S’More Brownies — These easy-to-make treats take about an hour and have pretty simple ingredients. Oh, and they are good. Some might even say they are better than a boyfriend.

Chocolate Sformato with Amaretto Whip Cream — Another easy-to-make, chocolatey dessert courtesy of Giada De Laurentiis of the Food Network. Best part: you can kill two birds with one stone. This dessert has chocolate and alcohol in it!

If you don’t have a full hour before you break down in “why doesn’t he love me?” tears, you can make these Truffle Tarts with Raspberries in only 20 minutes.

Or, if you’re really wanting to drown your sorrows with some other single buddies, you could whip up a decadent chocolate cocktail and drink V-Day away. The Mocha Mud Mix is a good choice for the caffeine addict, the Chocolate Martini Cocktail is sweet and strong and calls for an Hershey Kiss for garnish (and a whole bag left over that you can eat on your own). Lastly, if you prefer your Godiva in liquid form, there are many recipes using Godiva Chocolate Liqueur.
