Oh hello winter break, I’ve missed you!
This whole new ‘clear schedule thing’ started off great! I caught up (and drank with) old friends, I went skating in the park with the boy, and I even helped my mom bake cookies for Christmas (read: licked the bowl and ate a dozen cookie’s worth of dough). It was the kind of schedule that would make Martha Stewart proud…
But now, a mere 5 days in, I’m bored. I’ve already tried curling up on the couch with a good book, but I kept falling asleep. I’m too broke to go shopping. I’m sick of my siblings. And worst of all, there’s NOTHING NEW ON TV. Grrr.
So what’s a girl to do with three weeks to go until she can pack her bags and head back to campus? Catch up on some good old TV shows!
If you’ve got time to kill and don’t feel like partaking in the family Scrabble nights, here are 6 shows (some current that you should be watching, some from the past that you missed out on and some classics that everyone needs to watch) you should dedicate yourself to this break. Read More »

[Don't worry, peeps. I'm not going to spoil the ending of Lost for those of who who haven't dedicated 16 hours of your Sunday to the big event. I can't promise you the readers/commentors won't, though.]
I admit it, I am not a LOST junkie. I watched the first few seasons and then tuned in and out for episodes for the rest of the series. However, I did commit (what felt like an eternity) to Sunday night’s finale. I have to say, I wasn’t in tears nor was I pleased. Of course, there’s no way the show could’ve been wrapped up neatly with all the answers and it’s not like SVU where you can just tune in and out and still have any inkling of what’s going on.
Despite my lack of connection with the show, though, it got me thinking about endings, the great finales of our generation, last call, the ending of eras. But mostly, great finales. So I bring you, the top 10 most memorable television and movie endings. In my opinion. In no order. Post 1980s (except Dr. Strangelove). Oh and SPOILER ALERT? Read More »

You may or may not have become acquainted with Sia Furler, the 29 year Australian singer, through her successful collaborations with the U.K group Zero 7 . (She lulled me under her spell with “Distractions” and “Destiny” on the Zero 7 album Simple Things).
If you don’t know her from there, do you remember the last six minutes of the “Six Feet Under” finale and soundtrack that featured that ambient and sweeping piano and percussion? That was Sia.
Her voice is not one that is easily digested, but once you become accustomed to the newness and the rawness of it, you want more. Two years after releasing Colour the Small One, Sia and her glorious voice are back with Some People Have Real Problems.
According to Sia, the cover art of her album illustrates a running gag during the recording process, as one person is drawn under a spot of rain, holding an umbrella but still sad faced, while next to them is a person without arms or legs and smiling happily. A self reminder to not complain about her ‘rich people problems.’ Read More »
