It’s just… SJP could feasibly be my mother. I would not want my mother going out in something like this.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous dress. I love the lace, I love the white (who says you can’t wear white after Labour Day?!), I love how she has accessorized with a big floral piece (very Carrie), but I just don’t think it’s…well…appropriate. I think she’s showing a little bit too much skin and it just isn’t the right choice for her- even adding length to it would just make it look too bride-y.

I love the nude bag and pretty jewellery, but I don’t really understand why she chose green Manolo Blahnik shoes- I think nude or black would have been cuter. I do like her makeup, but again, I think the black eyeliner and heavy smokey eye it a little bit too much for her nowadays.

I’m not going to insist that SJP start wearing mom jeans and pant suits, but I’m just not mad on this one.

We’re back with another edition of G.W.W.E. (Guys We Wanna Eff), and no, that’s not a typo! This week, we have a very special treat in store–instead of featuring one luscious lad, we have decided to salute ten of Hollywood’s hottest vets in honor of Memorial Day. Some battled enemies on the war front, others on screen, but all of these studs are on our short list for a pleasure-filled patriotic eff. After all, what’s hotter than a man in uniform?

1. Jimmy Stewart (US Air Force)
The star of my all-time favorite movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, served part of his wonderful life in the US Air Force.  Looks like Clarence the angel wasn’t the only one who got his wings!

2. Elvis Presley (US Army)
The King was a member of the Army before he was a member of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.  For his service and those sick swingin’ hips, I’ve got just one thing to say: thankyuhverymuuhch!

3.  Jake Gyllenhaal (Screen Vet)
The ferocious indie-hunk immortalized the first Gulf War in 2005′s Jarhead. Tell me, Jake, have those guns in that photo been authorized by the Marines?

4.  Josh Hartnett (Screen Vet)
Josh has pulled two, erm, tours of duty–one in the WWII film Pearl Harbor, and another in Black Hawk Down, the film portraying American involvement in the Somalian civil war.

5. Martin Sheen (Screen Vet)
Another two-time screen vet, the West Wing President was first a US Army captain in Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam War epic, Apocalypse Now and as Civil War General Robert E. Lee in Gettysburg.

6. Alan Alda (Screen Vet)
The recent 30 Rock guest star first shot to stardom on one of television’s most popular shows, the Korean War comedy M*A*S*H.  Anyone who can make wartime funny is worth an eff in my book.

7. Humphrey Bogart (US Navy)
One of the true classic film stars, Casablanca cassanova Bogart served in the US Navy (and enjoyed all the girls he met at sea!).

8. Matthew Broderick (Screen Vet)
SJP’s hubby made unfettered determinism (and facial hair) sexy in the timeless Civil War film, Glory. No trace of Ferris Bueller-esque slackerism here.

9. Joe DiMaggio (Army)
He thanked the good Lord for making him a Yankee, but we thank the pinstriped papa for his service to his country. Joltin’ Joe took a hiatus from the House that Ruth Built and joined the Army during WWII.

10. Ben Affleck (Screen Vet)
Oscar-winning celeb and Jennifer Garner’s baby daddy had all of our hearts a-thumpin’ in Pearl Harbor, alongside fellow hottie Josh Hartnett (see above).

Meet Yigal Azrouël: sublime fashion designer and personality. The Israeli import has been showing his fresh, modern collections on runways since 1998, and is known among fashionistas for his expert draping techniques. His work is well-loved by Natalie Portman, Salma Hayek, and Sarah Jessica Parker. (Hey, if your work gets the thumbs-up from SJP, you’re made like lemonade!)

I know what you’re thinking: he’s a designer, he can’t possibly be “batting for my team,” right? Wrong. Yigal is straight… and maybe single. There have been rumors of him sweeping Katie Lee Joel (wife of Billy) off her feet , though I wouldn’t blame Katie Lee for fleeing the coup. Take a look at Yigal’s rugged mug, and Billy Joel–well, let’s just say he’s seen better days.

To have Yigal around would be nothing short of titilating. Imagine a life filled with frequent travel (New York, Paris, Milan–you know, the usual), a self-made man and a smokin’-hot wardrobe designed expressly for you. Excuse me, I think I’ve just described heaven. Yigal, I heard effing was so in for summer. Let’s pioneer that trend, okay?

If it’s one thing we’ve learned here at CC, it’s that all people are fascinating (Yes, even your econ professor). Let’s face it – people love to glimpse into the lives of other people. Disagree? Then please explain why you’re currently looking at your friend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s photos on Facebook. Or reading about the latest Lauren/Heidi dramz in this weeks’ tabloids. Yeah we thought so.

Fact is we connect to others by learning about them. And everyone has something to share (even if it is a story about that one time they had a little accident at Burger King…)

So to give you yet another reason to procrastinate, we started ‘The Five Questions We Ask Everyone’ (and five just for that one person) because we know whether we’re schmoozing with an A- list celeb or your local bartender, you’ll be equally entertained.

Last week we talked to Brody Jenner; this time College Candy spent some time talking with celebrity hair stylist and major sweetheart, Harry Josh. He’s proof in the fat-free pudding that hard work and big dreams pay off big time as he’s spends his days face to face with just about any celeb you’d want to call your BFF (or workout buddy – um hellllo Gisele Bundchen).

Harry opens up to us about how he followed his passion, his obsession with cheesy pop (I knew there were more of us out there!) and how you, dear reader, can have Gisele’s fabulous “I don’t care” hair:

The 5 Questions We Ask Everyone:

1. What is your most hysterical/ridiculous college memory/most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

HJ: I was an angel!

HJ: 1) friends/family

2) laughter

3) good health

4) dogs

5) weed

3. What’s your motto/advice you live by?

HJ: Always see the glass as half full!

HJ: Anything and everything cheesy, I love me a good pop song. I am known for my poor taste in Top 40 hits…latest obsession is Beyonce ‘Single Ladies.’

5. Ten years from now you will be…

HJ: Continuing to be grateful for all the good things that have happened and will continue to happen to me and people around me. [There is] so much greatness in this world it’s often overwhelming.

5 questions for Harry Josh:

1. When did you realize that hair was your passion and that you needed to this as a career? How did you get into this?

HJ: Around 15, I was flipping through fashion magazines and was obsessed with models and got the bug to be in the business. Much later I saw an out-take shot from the photo shoot and it showed a man standing on a cliff in some exotic location brushing a gorgeous models hair and I thought, “That’s it! I can be a hairdresser!!”

First I started with the basics like anyone else, but then the journey was brutal – lots of rejections. I started out doing regular hairdresser things, but to get to be able to be the hairdresser that does session work meant I needed to move to where all the stuff happens, which is NYC. So I packed my bags and left Vancouver to go to NYC and then was told that I [was] not good enough and that I [would] have to be an assitant and learn the ropes (little did I know that meant starting all over). I ended up assisting for 6 years! I finally started to get my own work slowly but surely the jobs came.

2. When was the moment you realized “okay I made it?”

HJ: Well that’s quite a statement and I’m not sure I have, but my first big break was Vogue magazine. They had listed me as one of the five new guys to look out for and they featured a full page picture of me!! I had pictures of Helena Christensen, Christy Tulington, etc. all over my walls growing up and now I do their hair and know their kids. It’s so crazy to look back and see how far I’ve come! Since then I have been lucky enough to touch most major A-listers at least once: Cameron Diaz, Hilary Swank, Julianne Moore, SJP, Gwyneth etc…

3. Hair product that every girl must have?

HJ: A few things. One is a good strong blow-dryer (Super Salono), a great round brush, and some John Frieda Frizz Ease Thermal Serum (it’s great to help smooth out frayed ends, dry hair, frizzy hair, etc.).

4. What’s the easiest way for College Candy readers to take their hair from class to happy hour and still look great?

HJ: Messy hair is sexy and loose and it’s a great way to show that you’re comfortable with yourself. Look at women like Kate Moss, Cameron Diaz, Gisele Bundchen; they all have loose easy hair, they embrace the fact that it’s not styled (or doesn’t really look like it is), but that look is deliberate.

If you’re a pony tail girl, wear it down, but make sure you give the crown of your head some height. Backcomb about 4 square inches worth on the top of your head then gently brush non backcombed hair over it until it blends itself out. Use some rollers or a curling iron around a few pieces to give the hair a loose wave. If your hair falls flat fast or doesn’t hold a curl, use a tiny iron so it drops to a good wave or use a bigger iron and use hairspray to hold it….

5. Hardest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

HJ: Believing in yourself when no one else will. You must you visualize your success and work hard, don’t worry about the “how to’s” just see yourself doing it and believing it and it will happen.

The women’s responses were varied: some said they are more romantic, better looking, the obligatory “hot” accent and a few other examples. It got me thinking though; how different can they really be? I personally have never dated someone from a different country, being born and raised in the Tri-State area myself, but listening to these women go on and on about men they dated, fell in love with, married…made me wonder if there really was a substantial difference.

Most females in any country would agree that David Beckham – shirt or no shirt (preferably no shirt, am I right?) – has a sort of lust that seems to pour out of him with every move, breath or goal he kicks. I’ve also read countless interviews with Vicky Beckham stating her man – due to his British heritage – is well equipped in that area. Are British men known to be packin’ more than our American men?

Personally, Jude Law has always been a favorite of mine, but I never thought of how a non-celebrity Brit would be as a partner. Would they really be more romantic? Or are females just so tired of American men letting them down, they expect the Brit boys to be different? I’d never thought I’d say this, but Elvis Duran and the Z-morning show got my brain cranking way before it should’ve been this morning.

I’ve visited the streets that would be crowded with these so called “better catches”. Like SJP always said about squirrels in Sex and the City: “they’re just rats with a better outfit,” I think a Brit is just an American man with a better accent. I may be biased, but I’d take my American boyfriend, sexy and wonderful, sans that accent any day.

Do we romanticize them because we’ve never had them or because they truly are a better breed?

The spread in this month’s Glamour looked so promising too, all the outfits looked more or less lovely, if a little uninspired—until I read the captions. The dress that caught my eye in one shot was actually by Burberry, the striking top in another was by Oscar de la Renta, the fabulous jacket by Chanel… Only the most basic and quite frankly boring pieces where actually from the new line.

I wish I could show you proof of how completely mediocre these clothes are, but lawyers from Steve & Barry’s are hassling all bloggers who post pictures of the new line (speculation is that the clothes are going to be revamped because nobody but Oprah seems to like them).

I suppose you get what you pay for …the collection will include jeans, lingerie, casual wear, and accessories ranging from $8 to $15. In the interview with Glamour, Sara Jessica Parker says that her clothes “are not setting a trend. We’re not Balenciaga. They’re well-made clothes that feel of-the-moment.” She’s not lying.

“It’s about affordable, well-made American sportswear. It’s about fashion not being a luxury,” she says. “It’s really, really important to us that it be good, feel good, have a life, that it make a difference in your life and that you have money left over to live.” That’s all well and good, but I don’t want people to fall asleep just looking at me. Anyone can make a cheap pair of jeans or a striped shirt. If I wanted that, I would go to the Gap. The point releasing a clothing line is to bring something new to the fashion arena, like Gwen Stefani with L.A.M.B. If you’re going to release boring stuff, market it for the middle-aged or just stick to hawking perfume.

It looks like Steve & Barry’s won’t be successful anytime soon either. Amanda Bynes just signed a deal with the company to create an exclusive collection of clothes and accessories. What does she even wear?! I haven’t even thought of this c-list actress since her illustrious days on kiddie TV. Well, I guess we can all wait to bash her line until the Aug 10 launch. I’m not holding my breath.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a fashion icon. Ever since her preciously hip and sometimes wacky outfits on the show, I have followed her every move from fragrance to hair color, and now clothing.

Unfortunately, I am not one of the lucky ones who have had the honor of previewing the collection. But insiders are saying it is being compared to the latest fashion line, The Row, created by the Olsen twins. Despite all the hype I am still waiting to see both lines for myself before I make any comparisons.

To my dismay there are practically zero details about the new SJP line which is making me sweat with anxiety (not really, but I want to know now, damnit!). I’ll be sure to keep on the updates!
