Man Makeup: Yes or No?

jared_leto.jpgWhen I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror – at my blotchy skin, the dark circles under my eyes – I thanked God for my drawer filled with makeup. It’s amazing what a little concealer and black eyeliner can do for a girl. Sometimes even I can’t believe the daily before and after transformation to my face.

I almost feel bad for the men in the world who wake up every day and have to take that face out into the world. They don’t have the luxury of covering up that zit or the evidence of a late night out at the bar.

Until now, that is.

It has been rumored that Clinique will be adding to their Clinique M line; their products for men. Instead of their usual face scrubs and moisturizers to prevent problems, the newest additions will include products to cover problems.

Yes, ladies, Clinique is making male foundation! Read More »

Sugar, Spice and…Wrinkles?!

eating-cake.jpgI have a weakness for all things sweet. From Take 5 Bars to warm apple pie smothered in French Vanilla ice cream, nothing makes me quite as happy as a sweet treat. Naturally, in attempts not to become a total fatty, I do my best to avoid my vice.

And now I have even more reason to stay away from the sweet stuff.

Step away from the Halloween candy, ladies! According to a new study it seems that sugar consumption can lead to wrinkles and dull skin!

The process is actually quite simple. Sugar flowing through your blood attaches to proteins to form evil little molecules. The more sugar you eat, the more molecules you create, which spread quickly and make the collagen in your skin brittle and dry. End result: wrinkles.

What does that mean for you? It means that a bag of M&Ms today can mean some saggy skin tomorrow. (Well, not really tomorrow; more the proverbial tomorrow.)

Say it ain’t so! As if cellulite-y thighs weren’t bad enough, now I have to worry about looking like this. This news is just frustrating. I have been working so hard to prevent the breakdown of my skin; I use SPF everyday, I stay out of the sun and I moisturize like it’s my job. And now I find out that none of that matters as long as I’m tossing back the Skittles. Read More »

Screw Dermatologists, Let FISH Do All the Work

chinese fish spa

This is a weird one.

Imagine enjoying a nice, warm day at the pool, relaxing in the sun, catching some rays…..and getting nibbled on by some hungry yet helpful fish.

It turns out that “Fish Spas” are the next big thing in the world of skincare.

Garra Rufa fish, “…when placed in the spa, these fish can feed themselves on the dead cells of the human body, since they only consume such cells, leaving the healthy skin of the human body to grow. The whole process is reportedly free of pain. It won’t hurt and the bather might feel a pleasant tingling on his or her skin,” CRIEnglish.com reports. Read More »

What Dangers Lurk in Your Makeup Bag?

girl applying makeupMaybe she’s born with it, but for me, it’s definitely Maybelline. Like most women, I don’t even think about how many beauty products, from face wash to perfume, I layer on every day. Something I’ve given even less thought to is what’s in my products—until I found Kaia House.

Jumping on the organic bandwagon a little late, I just discovered Kaia House, the foremost source for organic skin and beauty care. Kaia House focuses on banishing the use over of harmful petrochemicals, parabens and other skin offenders, and offers 20 lines of premium organic and natural products including celeb-trendy Osea, Perfect Organics, Red Flower, and Biotique.

But when it comes to beauty products, is going out of your way to buy organic really worth it? Absolutely, according to Kaia House. And after reading their extensive list of un-safe (and common) chemicals that should be avoided when purchasing beauty products, I think I’m a convert.

Read up on the dangers lurking in your makeup bag and then head to KaiaHouse.com for a more comprehensive list. Your skin will thank you! Read More »

10 Essential Steps to A Successful Day at the Beach

happy-beach.jpgIn my exploits over many summers to the Jersey shore, I have discovered that a day at the beach must not only be viewed as a day of rest, but also as a day of skill and organization in order to be successful.

This is why I have decided to compile a list that will prevent beach goers everywhere from ruining their day in the sun by making the silly mistakes that can often snowball and cause a tripto the shore to be (gasp!) unenjoyable.

1. Check the Weather- This is the single most important move to make when planning a trip to the beach. The weather will make or break your entire experience. No one likes sitting in a bikini on a cold, cloudy beach and why experience this misfortune when Weather.com is just a click away?

2. Look Hot- Remember that a trip to the beach means massive exposure. Remember to shower and shave all the right spots before you go.

There is nothing more horrifying than laying your towel down on the sand and realizing you have a bird’s nest worth of hair protruding from your armpits. (Gross).

Tousle hair with some Garnier Surf Hair texture paste for natural beach hair before you hit the waves. Pick out some cute sandals, throw on some shades and you’re good to go! Read More »

Hot Summer Skin

summer-skin.jpgWhen the weather heats up, little shorts get pulled out of storage, and you double your daily dose of sit-ups so you can look that much hotter lounging on the sand, there’s a good chance your skin might start breaking out. While it totally sucks, there are a few easy fixes that can clear you up before you can say, “Of course I’ll be having another Mojito.”

I can most definitely vouch for these methods too. When I noticed a few clogged pores around my T-zone a couple of days ago, instead of going into crisis mode and lamenting how life could be so cruel, I made a few simple changes and things are already looking up.

You need to be careful of two things: sun and sweat.

Sun: Don’t think baking under the sun is good for your skin. Even if you don’t care about dying from skin cancer, the sun doesn’t clear up acne. It only burns the top-most layer of skin and doesn’t get to the heart of the cause of acne—the clogged pore. Read More »
