There’s no doubt that the Greek system is a huge institution in America. Almost every university has at least a few sororities and fraternities, and, at many schools, the Greek system is the biggest part of student life. But it doesn’t really exist anywhere outside America. Until now. A new reality show on TLC is following a group of girls as they try to change that. I think everyone, regardless if they’re in a sorority or not, can enjoy this one.

In Sorority Girls, which debuted this week, a group of American women head over to the UK to start Sigma Gamma, England’s first sorority. And the results are pretty hilarious. Please, please watch this video from the premiere episode. You need to hear one of the girls use the term “slooter cahooter” instead of “slut.” It actually made me laugh out loud. Alone. At my computer. It was so ridiculous that I actually had to wonder if it may have been scripted.

So for those reasons, and those reasons only, you decided you hate country. Well, think again.

Today’s country music is about more than just singing about drinking whiskey and lovin’ women.  In fact, many country artists, including Taylor Swift and Rascal Flats, have gone mainstream. And who could hate T.Swift?! I know I sure can’t…even though she’s had a fling with every Hollywood hunk that I’ve dreamed about dating.

Country music is honest and revolutionary—something completely different from any of your Pandora radio stations.  Country tells a story, involves the listener in the emotion of the song, and yes, makes even the die-hard country fan shed a tear.  Don’t believe me yet? Listen to Miranda Lambert’s “The House that Built Me.” That song gets me every. single. time.

And just in time for the very 1^st American Country Awards, I want country haters to gather ‘round, silence your opinions for 2 hours and celebrate all things country music.

It’s no surprise that Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are up for every possible award (and they are wonderful, powerful performers in the country genre), but in order to truly appreciate country music, you must move past the mainstream country artists and appreciate those who may not show up on Us Weekly covers or get major coverage on E!.

One of my all-time favorite country bands is the Zac Brown Band. They are widely respected throughout the music industry and their catchy lyrics make it impossible not to sing along. And I can promise you, even the biggest country hater will fall in love with the Zac Brown Band’s music.

If you love Taylor Swift, you’ll love Miranda Lambert even more.  She’s sassy, classy, and makes revenge ever so sweet.  Miranda Lambert has a song for every situation. Dealing with a cheating boyfriend? Listen to “White Liar.”  Jealous girls trying to rain on your parade?  Make “Only Prettier” your anthem.  Wanna feel empowered when you’ve given up on love? Take a listen to this.  Miranda’s like Taylor 2.0. Gotta love her!

Luke Bryan is the typical country star— he’s a real gentlemen. His twangy country voice makes him irresistible, and he sings about what everyone loves the most: love and whiskey. “Rain is a Good Thing” is a country boy’s anthem, but also a great sing along song.  You can’t go wrong with “Do I.” And sorority girls across the country love this song and after listening, you’ll see why its many a girl’s personal anthem.

There are so many country stars that are worth listening to when you’re looking for new music.  So tune into the American Country Awards to see these musicians and more! I have a pretty strong feeling country haters won’t be hatin’ any longer.

Somehow, I found the one non-douchey frat boy ever to exist. He was perfect: tall, dark, and beautiful, with a 4.0, perfect teeth, a lot of cute friends, and – the kicker—a self-pact to not drink until he was 21. Which meant there would be no pre-game, just… game. And I had none, because he was that hot.

I’m not entirely sure why he said yes, and I’m not sure why I thought I was even cool enough to ask this guy out, but somehow the transaction occurred and there we were, sitting, soberly, talking for two hours while my friends drunkenly danced and ran around. Ever the gentleman, he took me to pseudo-dinner at 2:30 AM, got his leftovers wrapped and then drove me back to my dorm. And so it was time to say goodnight.

Ever the self-conscious one, I assumed that he wasn’t interested, but had put on a happy face so as not to crush my little freshman dreams. And just as I went to kiss him on the cheek, his mouth landed fully on mine. I was shocked. He hadn’t tried to make a move all night!

So clearly, the normal reaction is to kiss right back and linger a little longer, possibly suggest you get a tour of his house, etc. But no, rather than being caught up in the moment I said, “MUAH.”

Yes. That’s right. Right after he makes his move, the first thing that my body, which must hate me, does, is pucker right back up and say “MUAH.”

SAY. MUAH.

ONTO HIS MOUTH.

To which we both were awkwardly, awkwardly silent for about five seconds until I just got out of the car. With his leftovers that I’d been kindly carrying, without even realizing it until I got in my building.

The happiest day of my college career was when he graduated.

Clearly I’ve learned from this error, but I sincerely hope that you can’t possibly be as dumb as I was. From this point onward, some personal rules I’ve learned to follow:

Even if you’re not confident, fake it. If you’re out with someone, they clearly agreed to be there, and you’re clearly “good enough” for the situation. At least half of the time you’re probably too good. Just like they say in Mean Girls: You’re a regulation hottie. Own it.

If you do have an awkward encounter? Take the high road. Don’t run to avoid people, it’s college and you will definitely run into them again. Just smile, say hi if you blatantly notice each other, and carry on with your evening/life.

Don’t steal leftovers unless it’s something you (or your roommate) like. Otherwise it’s just an unnecessary addition to your already-messy room.

Any other advice on how not to date?

Which is probably why Washington State’s Linux Users Group (the university’s largest computer club) has decided put out a memo to all the sororities on campus: “Make us over, and we’ll do your homework.”

In an effort to attract more women to the computer science program (and get a free haircut), the “nerds” of WSU’s Linux Club plan to host a “nerd auction”.

“You can buy a nerd and he’ll fix your computer”, their website explains, “help you with stats homework, or if you’re really adventurous, take you to dinner!”

But before the computer loving dudes go through with the auction, they’re looking for a few good sorority girls to make them more appealing.

“If anyone’s going to bid on us, we’ll need some spicing up. And who better to help with that than sorority girls who like nothing better than a makeover?”

While the whole “Beauty and the Greek” (sound familiar to anyone?) event is still in the planning stages, WSU’s computer program has garnered national attention because of it.

Will the idea bring more chicks into the lives of these self-described nerds? Of course!

Will the girls stick around? No f*cking way.

Please.

Telling some guy to get a haircut while he spends 10 hours fixing your busted iBook is totally a win-win situation…for the chick.

Maybe if they got Ashton Kutcher to produce the whole thing and throw in some embarrassing challenges that made them look redonkulous in front a huge crowd…

Either that, or just have everyone eat spiders.

Let’s recap … After the sketchy “disposal” of all the members considered “overweight,” “socially awkward” or “ugly,” Depauw University decided to expel the sorority’s chapter. And who could blame them, those national women are bitches.

However, these Delta Zetas apparently won’t go quietly … or at all for that matter. They hardcore sued the university claiming that they did not evict the sisters because of appearance, etc. Yeah, ok, I totally believe that.

To top it all off, they’re “accusing DePauw of breaking contracts, defaming the sorority and interfering with its business relationships.” AND they want a public apology with return to the greek system. Quite the demanding crew.

MTV says it is “searching for cast members with career and life goals that they want to pursue in a major metropolitan city.”

“Aspiring actors, models, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, athletes, artists, journalists, stylists, and fashion designers are particularly encouraged to apply, as well anyone else with interesting career goals and a passion to succeed.”

You might be saying to yourself, “well sign me up!” Well Here You Go.
