Hot or Hot Mess: Kate Moss in Stella McCartney at the British Fashion Awards

Oh Kate, you’ve made some mistakes in your life — remember Peter Doherty?* — and sometimes your style is questionable. Well, quite often it’s questionable. But you always manage to pull it off with that effortless thing you have going on and that devil-may-care pout. But seriously, what is this? Is it 1995 again? Did you stumble into the underwear drawer of a giantess hooker and fall into one of her huge fishnet stockings?

Kate Moss wore this black string dress…thing to the British Fashion Awards two weeks ago. She paired the dress, designed by pal Stella McCartney, with Louboutins and a Mongolian fur coat. She added red lips and a small black clutch. Read More »

Hot or Hot Mess: Sarah Jessica Parker in Stella McCartney at the Premier of Ocean’s Kingdom

The more time I spend looking at this outfit, the less I like it.

And I love lace. And asymmetry.

It’s just… SJP could feasibly be my mother. I would not want my mother going out in something like this.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous dress. I love the lace, I love the white (who says you can’t wear white after Labour Day?!), I love how she has accessorized with a big floral piece (very Carrie), but I just don’t think it’s…well…appropriate. I think she’s showing a little bit too much skin and it just isn’t the right choice for her- even adding length to it would just make it look too bride-y.

I love the nude bag and pretty jewellery, but I don’t really understand why she chose green Manolo Blahnik shoes- I think nude or black would have been cuter. I do like her makeup, but again, I think the black eyeliner and heavy smokey eye it a little bit too much for her nowadays.

I’m not going to insist that SJP start wearing mom jeans and pant suits, but I’m just not mad on this one.

What do you think- hot or hot mess?

8 Under $20: Sephora

So if you’re like me, part of the fun of being a girl is getting all beautified and purtied up. I mean, beyond the fun that is playing with makeup, what’s the point of putting together a cute outfit if your skin looks dry, your hair looks flat and you smell like a thrift store?

Obviously, my all-time favorite one-stop-shop for all my beauty needs is Sephora. That place has it all… not to mention you can pop in there while you’re shopping and freshen up with their variety of samples. (Confession: sometimes I’ll make Sephora my last stop so I can use all their expensive makeup to get ready for the night!) The sad fact is, beauty products are muy expensive-o and can quickly add up.

Good thing Sephora has a nice stock of too-good-to-be-true goodies for under $20. Let the beautification begin! Read More »

Fashion Porn: Lingerie Orgy

lingerie intro

The stepping stone to the perfect outfit is the right underwear. With the start of the school year rapidly approaching, it is time to purge your drawers of anything ill-fitting, stained or tattered. It may be hard to part with your favorite undergarments, but there are a million reasons why you should. Like the fact that no boy wants to see you in a pair of torn up undies, or that around 80% of women wear the wrong size bra.

Be nice to your girls and go get re-fitted.

It’s a new year, and it’s important to purge the old and buy new pretty underthings.  Even if you usually steer clear of color in your wardrobe, your lingerie is the perfect place to add a little excitement without any risk.  Whether you’re going to be showing it off for someone special (or someone those beer goggles make you think is special), or are just going to be dancing in front of your own mirror, it’s a good time to pick up some new pieces.

Lingerie can make even the shyest girl feel instantly sexy, and there is literally something out there for everyone. In fact, there are lots of somethings, which means you can stock up and hold off on laundering for a little bit longer. Anyways, here are some of my favorite under-thingies – from sexy to sweet, normal to naughty – right now: Read More »

Dear Tuffy Luv,

After watching a super scary PETA video, I can’t look in my closet anymore without picturing dead animal carcasses. I need places to buy vegan clothes. And shoes if you can. And fast. I can’t handle getting nauseous when I get dressed anymore.

Green Fashion Is Not Just for Tree Huggers Anymore

shirt-dress

Yes, this dress is hot and totally earth-friendly!

The earth friendly movement is sweeping the nation – cars, homes, even an entire TV station, everything is getting the green makeover, and fashion is no exception.

What does Green mean, in terms of fashion?  Well, organic fabrics, recycled fibers, and green production processes that have a low impact on the planet, for starters. Ethically sourced fabrics are also a high priority, crafted by artisans from around the world who are paid a fair wage. In addition, sustainable materials like organic cotton and wool from humanely raised animals are sought out. Essentially, Green clothing companies have to take both environmental and ethical factors into consideration.

Sounds like a lot, but there are tons of earth-friendly designers out there doing just that. And doing it well.

Here’s a look at some of the finest fashion finds around, from designers and companies committed to making a difference with their super-stylish AND eco-friendly products. If you aren’t a Green Girl yet, these green goods may just sway you! Read More »

The Best Discount Designer Lines

vera-wang-style-design-1.jpgFinally, a silver lining! Since the economy, you know, tanked, discount is no longer a dirty word! I guess $3000 tank dresses just aren’t selling like they used to. Designer clothing, once a hallmark of the fashion elite, is now being made available to us budget fashionistas.

Top designers are creating lines for discount retailers, and we, the people, are reaping the benefits. Cutting edge, current fashion lines at affordable prices were once a rarity, but in recent months, they are more popular and fabulous than ever. Thank God. We’ve got tuition to worry about, and now we can look awesome doing it. Here are some of the most Fabu-Less lines on the market today!

Isaac Mizrahi partnered with Target to create a line of the great, ladylike pieces (sheath dresses, killer blazers, etc.) his couture line was known for, and it was such a hit that Mizrahi’s line has lasted for years as a fixture at Target stores nationwide.

Target, home of geniuses, apparently, is also the home of GO! International, my FAVE of all discount designer lines. Its motto? “Design for all”! Its gimmick? Each season, a new designer steps in to design a line for Target, adding fresh color and perspective to the clothing department. Currently on the racks? Thakoon, an incredible young Thai designer, with a line full of fun colors, inventive cuts, and flattering silhouettes. Totally worth throwing some elbows for – and these lines are so popular that you just might have to. Read More »

Shoes-ing the Right Pair: Top Shoe Trends for Fall 2008

shoes.jpgOkay, so I’ll admit it; when it comes to shoes, I have a problem.

I can’t stop buying them.

I love all kinds of shoes, from flip flops to stilettos to my trusty Chuck Taylors. I love my tried and true (black pumps, ballet flats, etc.) and I love finding fun and funky shoes to add a lil’ oomph to an outfit. I have shoes ranging from Payless and Target to Steve Madden and even a few beloved pairs of designer shoes (that were all purchased in outlets or amazing clearance sales, I must add).

The best thing about shoes is that trends come in cycles so you can save your favorite pairs and use them for more than one season.

This season there are six major shoe trends emerging, although a couple of them are old trends re-surging, so I’m here to let you know what you’ll be seeing on footsies in the next few months. Read More »

Project Runway Rundown: Holler at Your Boy

sandra.jpgWhile watching Project Runway last night, I realized a few things. For one, I realized that Daniel (dude with black hair who is really not so memorable as he keeps sneakin’ by at the runway) totally wanted to do Wesley (boring dude who got sent home last week). I also came to the conclusion that Blayne’s lack of tanning is actually having an effect on him and his sanity…and he is really started to freak me out.

Oh, and I realized that this season of Project Runway is really sort of sucky.

The designers all suck. Most of them are horribly boring (hem hem, Jennifer) and the rest just annoy me. It is sad that the only ones that stand out to me are Suede (who talks in the third person), Blayne (who is neon orange) and Stella (who kills cows and uses their flesh for pants and vests). I used to LOVE the designers on the show and had a clear favorite every season.

This season? Well, I guess I sorta still love Tim Gunn.

Last night’s challenge was to get inspiration from NYC at night, which was just another creative way to incorporate product placement (cool cameras!) into the show. And how perfect was it that Blayne – lover of all things neon (including his skintone) – got dropped off in Times Square? Or that Stella managed to find the one piece of leather in the entire city, so she could take her inspiration from it? Read More »
