I’m a pretty big fan of the slouchy/relaxed pants.
Pants with elastic waistbands considered trendy? Why on EARTH would any of us ever complain? We can now wear pants that hide how much pizza we’ve actually eaten, we won’t have to unbutton them under the table and people (mainly girls) will tell us we look cute.
Sign. Me. Up.
And the best part is – anything goes. Throw them on with a lose tee and some flats, or pair them with a fitted top and heels and you can rock these day or night. Comfort, style AND room for late night eating? I’m a big, big fan. Like huge.
Here are two cute pairs that are great for day and night, and can take you right into fall. Read More »

American Pride Doesn't Have to Look Like This
Fourth of July is here! Commence drinking, hot dogs, drinking, and singing “Bye Bye Miss American Pie” and maybe burning your hand on sparklers (which I don’t care how old I get, they will always be so freakin’ cool).
I’ve already given you recipes for the bbq you’ll be hitting, and now we have one more thing to tackle: the Fourth of July ‘fit.
You need to look somewhat festive (i.e. I don’t suggest your skull tank or vintage “I love Canada” tee) but you don’t want to look like a walking advertisement for the US of A. I’ve got you covered: from red, white and blue festive to festive without being decked in the colors of our homeland, you will look like those American Girls that all those foreign boys (and the Counting Crows) talk about. And you will be ready to pull a Miley and Party in the USA. Woot woot. Read More »

Summer for many college students means interning. Which means working. For free. Which means needing to look cute without spending a lot of dough.
It also means happy hours. Which usually turn into full night engagements. And who wants to head out on the town for the night in their boring work clothes?
Not I, said the fly.
And I (and you) don’t have to. No matter where you’re working/interning this summer, I’ve got your back. And your front. And your accessories. Below are three outfits that can take you from the office to $2 beers instantly. All you gotta do is ditch the sweater, switch out a bag, or change into some heels and go from office appropriate to night on the town. Read More »

White jeans are everywhere these days: magazines, store windows, tampon commercials (I don’t care how maxi that maxi tampon is, I do not believe you will have my back – or my underwear in this case – in white pants!) And they’re cute. They are a great way to lighten up denim for the summer and look so great with so many things.
I’m especially a big fan of white pants with bright tops, printed tops and denim/chambray tops. I don’t care how much the Gap or famous stylists try to tell me that denim on denim (or a chambray shirt with jeans) is back in style, I will NOT be rocking a Canadian tuxedo of any kind any time soon. [Note: CollegeCandy loves Canada. Please don't hate us.] But pair a cute denim button down or jacket with white jeans and you’ve got yourself a hot little number. Holleration!
Here are three examples of crisp white denim for summer. And with Memorial Day/Summer BBQs/excessive day drinking around the corner, you can start rocking these ASAP. As in now. As in get yourself a pair and rock them. Read More »

If you haven’t heard about TOMS shoes yet you are really missing out. Not just because the shoes are cute. And not just because the shoes are so comfy it feels like you are walking around campus in slippers. Or on clouds. Or marshmallows. (Hm. I could totally go for a s’more right now… but I digress). But because the premise on which TOMS shoes exists is pretty remarkable.
For every pair you buy, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in a developing country who is in need. And since beginning in 2006, TOMS has given over 600,000 shoes to children in need. Talk about your purchase going to a greater good (and I’m not just talking about the greater good that is you looking totally cute, although TOMS shoes do that too).
So here are four of my favorite ways to rock the TOMS, wherever you may be going. And four pairs for you means four for kids who REALLY need the shoes. Fashion has never felt so good. Read More »

Shirt dresses are just about everywhere for Spring/Summer and this is one bandwagon I am ready to jump on. They come in different colors and styles so you can find the perfect dress that is flattering for your figure, your complexion, and your budget. You can wear them with leggings by day, or go for a sexier version for a night out. Basically, they’ve taken everything not cute about a man’s button down shirt and turned it into a super-cute little number that looks sexy and flattering on every woman.
It’s outfits like these that make me love being a girl. Well, that and the fact that I can spend a Saturday watching Disney movies and no one will judge me. But I digress…
The trend is nice because shirt dresses are cute and simple, yet you can still accessorize with fun shoes, jewelry, etc., for pops of color and individuality. So whether you’re looking for a shirt dress for day, night, or something to wear from day to night, I’ve got you covered. Well, technically the shirt dress has you covered, but you know what I mean. Usually I feature items that I consider timeless; things that you can wear again and again no matter the season. For the very last edition of the Fashion Essentials series, I’ve decided to highlight something that a lot of people either skip entirely or go overboard on: seasonal trends.
I consider trendy items essentials in a college girl’s wardrobe. Adding a trendy item to an outfit full of classics is a fun way to experiment with fashion, and proves you know “what’s in”. However, having a closet full of last season’s hottest trends isn’t realistic or smart: trendy items should be simply for fun, and not investment pieces or long-lasting essentials. Because no one wants to spend big money on short-term items, I’m going to focus on spring trend essentials for under $50. Read More »

Getting dressed for a night out can be quite a conundrum. You don’t want to get all decked out in sequins only to spend your night at some dive bar with hay and peanuts on the floor. But you don’t want to throw on tattered jeans and a tee only to find out you are going to some swanky mcswankerson lounge.
And don’t even get me started on dates. We all know the fear of being too overdressed (heels or flats? jeans or a dress?) only to wear the wrong outfit and feel silly.
Well no more. Thanks to this kick ass belt (I am a firm believer that big belts make everything better) we now have two trusty ‘fits for those nights where anything goes. Both of these looks can be dressed up (with a quick swap of heels instead of those boots) and can be worn right into Spring. Because a stylista as budgety as yourself knows the importance of versatility! Read More »

If my new obsession with Old Soul New Heart taught you anything, it’s that accessories can make an outfit.
And here’s another thing I’m about to teach you, so take note: if you want to stand out in a crowd wear a hat.
Every time I go out on a weekend in a beret EVERYONE comments. It’s unique, it’s different andit says you’ve got fashion balls.
Hello, risk-taker!
If, however, you find yourself in my shoes with a big case of LH (large head, and I mean that literally; not the ego kind), headbands are another great way to change up a look or keep up with a trend without going into serious debt. They also happen to be a great way to get by without washing your hair for “just one more day”- slick those bangaroos back and you look chick and clean! Cute while being lazy? Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Here are my favorite hats, headbands and hair accessories for fall. They give a whole new meaning to hat hair and for once, I don’t mind it! Read More »
