There's something about the steamy weather and the short break-from-reality feeling that summer brings that makes us all want to find someone to cozy up to for a few months. Or maybe it's the barrage of summer romance movies that we have been exposed to that make us think we have to find a short summer fling.

This week made it official: summer 2011 is in full swing. Summertime means a lot of things–no school work (unless you have summer classes…gross), beach trips, concerts, general outdoor fun stuff, etc. But let’s not forget about one of the most hyped up subjects during these long, hot days–summer romance.

I remember my first kiss, and it was definitely during the summer. After a swim meet. In front of all of my friends. And it was oh-so-romantic. There’s something about the steamy weather and the short break-from-reality feeling that summer brings that makes us all want to find someone to cozy up to for a few months. Or maybe it’s the barrage of summer romance movies that we have been exposed to that make us think we have to find a short summer fling. Because, you know, if you don’t you’re doomed to loneliness!

Either way, it happens, and there are a lot of movies out there to tell us about it. And according to these movies, summer love can come in many different shapes and forms–click to find out more about them.

Question? Answer: TuffyLuv@collegecandy.com

Dear Tuffy Luv,
I am currently a single freshman girl in college. Coming to college, there was a ton of stuff to be excited about. But like most single freshman girls I had one things on my mind: COLLEGE BOYS. I came here with the mentality that I was going to meet a bunch of boys, have some fun, and just play the field. While that plan worked flawlessly for a while, I have now found myself in a rather sticky situation.

I was talking to a boy all summer long, and I really started to like him. Over summer he was in a different state, so we could only communicate electronically. He goes to a private school in the same town as my university, so naturally in the fall we started hanging out all the time. I was really starting to like this boy, and so I decided to ask him to accompany me to my sister’s wedding. My family loved him and we had a great time, but after the wedding my feelings for him kind of started dwindling. I texted him a little less and made our sleepovers a lot less frequent.

All the while, I had other boys on the side. Cute boy in my building, boy from out of town, boy from the gym (I’m still single after all). So my point is that even when I really liked this boy, he wasn’t the only one in my life.

So jump to a few weeks later, when the fire alarm in the library goes off. All of us studious college kids had to pack up our things and stand outside the lib until they let us back in. While standing outside, this very cute boy starts talking to me. We get caught up in conversation and eventually realize we have one of the same classes, which sparks an exchange of phone numbers.

After our first encounter and number exchange, we start hanging out quite a bit. And the weirdest thing happens; I have NO desire to hangout with or hookup with any of those other sideline boys.

The problem is that I do not now how to handle the boys that I have left in the dust. Summer boy is the hardest, because although I’ve told him I need space, I haven’t told him about the library boy (who has all of my attention and affections). I don’t want to hurt his feelings because I know he’s still really into me, and I also don’t want to lose him as a friend. So I have basically been ignoring him, and that’s not right. Another problem: what if library boy screws me over and I’ve burned bridges with all the old boys? Tuffy, I just don’t know what to do… HELP ME !

Always,
The Overwhelmed Freshman

Dear Freshman,

This email really rubs Tuffy the wrong way.

Flighty flighty flighty. Which, actually, at your age, is fine. You are more than free to date as many guys as you want.

But worrying about dating this guy you actually*[see next paragraph] like just because you worry that you’ll have “burned bridges with all the old boys” is really The Skank. These are PEOPLE, sweetheart. They are not toys you can put on the shelf till you’re ready to play with them again. These are real live individuals who may want to get on with their own lives if they’re given the decency of being told you’ve lost interest.

*[How the hell do you know you actually like this guy?! GEEZ. You thought you actually liked that summer guy too! I mean--BLARG!!!]

Okay, maybe Aunt Tuffy is being a little harsh. I get it. You want to play around, but now you’re ready to be in a relationship for a while. Totally cool. By all means, hang out with Library Boy to your little heart’s content.

However, you then DEFINITELY have to tell Summer Boy. Summer Boy is so into you or whatever you said, okay?! And there’s nothing wrong with him; your feelings have just cooled. So why the floop are you stringing him along?! Tell him you just want to be friends, or tell him you’ve moved on. One or the other. You can’t keep letting this poor guy, who has been nothing but sweet to you, think he’s got a chance when you’re off chewing cud in greener pastures.

And as for the other guys–who gives a shoop?! YOU certainly don’t!!! Send them a text or something saying “I’m seeing someone.” SO not a big deal, but you ought to let them know. You know, out of common courtesy.

Speaking of which, I just hope to shoop that Summer Boy knew about Various Side Boys. Because it is REALLLLLY flooped up of you if he didn’t. And, frankly, you kind of make it sound like he didn’t, especially since you can’t even think of how to tell him about Library Boy now.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again (and again and again and again, apparently): IT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE TO DATE LOTS OF PEOPLE, BUT ONLY IF THEY ALL KNOW ABOUT IT.

And ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use condoms!!!!!!! The more partners you have, the more at risk you are and the more risk you put on any other partners present and future. USE CONDOMS. Look, Freshman. Do everyone a favor. Break it off clean with all your past flings, including Summer Boy, and move forward and have a nice and honest relationship with Library Boy. Don’t be a jerk. Boys are people too.

Hearts & Skulls,
Tuffy Luv

Careful: Those splinters are no joke.

I don’t know what you ladies have been up to this past seven days, but I just got back from the greatest week of my entire summer, visiting my best friend out West. We spent a lot of time just watching movies, talking, and shopping at the biggest mall in North America (for real). Basically, I enjoyed a nice relaxing vacation with the impending start of school being the farthest thing from my mind.

That is until I got home from my week away to find a bunch of back to school letters from my college staring me straight in the face. That’s right, much to my chagrin, summer is slowly but surely coming to an end.

While this summer has been a sex-free one for me (yes, still! I’m proud of myself too), I have enough sexy summertime memories to be aware that summer might be the greatest season for havin’ sex (although, I don’t think there’s a bad season, really). Maybe it’s the fact that we’re all wearing little clothing to begin with, or that we can feasibly get naked outside without potentially losing an appendage to frostbite (hey, I am Canadian), but there’s just something fundamentally sexy about summer.

A few months ago, former Sexy Time writer, Kelly, composed a bucket list of places to have sex before you’re done college. With sleeping until noon soon getting replaced by 8am classes, and bonfires replaced with late-night study sessions, I figured that now is a good time to take Kelly’s lead and compile a list of places to get freaky while the days are still long and we’re not yet back to hitting the books.

So, with only a few short weeks until you’re back in the stacks, grab your summer fling and have a little fun:

Tent – Except for that one awkward time, tent sex is, in my experience, the BEST sex. Not only are you essentially outdoors (remove the fly for an awesome post-coital star gazing sesh), but the tent walls are super-thin (enter the taboo factor), and a little rain sets a lotta mood. I would definitely recommend renting out a campsite for a weekend. Or, if you’re broke like I was two summers ago, splurge on a $40 Wal-mart tent and set it up in your yard for a night. Yes, I actually did that, and yes, it was fantastic.

Close to water – Maybe it’s because I’m from a cottage mecca, but there’s something hot about doin’ it by the water — a dock, a boat, the beach, all potentially sexy places to get naked. Just bring an extra-large blanket if you decide to have sex on the beach; it should help with keeping the sand out of places you never want sand to be.

Car – I know this isn’t just a summer thing, but it’s a whole lot more convenient getting naked in a vehicle that doesn’t need to be left on to run the heat in order to make sure you don’t freeze into a human sexcicle. Plus, it can be varied up pretty easily – just think of all the awesome places you can park!

Hammock – To be honest, I’m not sure how this would work logistically, but a friend of mine was pretty gung-ho about this one. It’d be worth a shot, right?

Tree – As in up against a tree, not in one. (Sex is good, but not worth risking your life.) It’s definitely a quickie-only location, but pretty exhilarating nonetheless.

Balcony – Only works if you’re high enough up and your balcony railing is solid enough (read: cement) that you can lean up against it without putting on a completely public show.

Those are about all the places my post-vacay brain can name off right now. And I totally refuse any responsibility if you get arrested (although, it WOULD make a great morning after story).

You can imagine why I had to hide this cover from my dad...

If I were to understand what guys need advice on via Maxim magazine, there would be three things; grilling, telling jokes, and this month, ‘what to do if you’re approached by a hot woman or a bear.” Golf-clap to you Maxim – job well done.

I purchased my monthly edition of the saucy mag this month and was bombarded by articles about steaks and coal-fire grills. And all of the men out there listening? When approached by a bear, offer it food. But when approached by a woman? Offering it food ain’t such a good idea.

While reading it inside of a Glamour magazine to block the Maxim cover from my father, I came upon many other intriguing articles. One in particular went on a hateful rant about ‘Why Summer Sucks.’ I couldn’t believe someone could possibly be shunning summertime. Needless to say, I was intrigued and read on. The number one summer complaint? Scantily clad females. Why? Because “they never talk to you and you have to stare at their minimum clothed bodies anyway.” Does this man realize he is complaining about partially nude woman that never complain/whine/talk?! That’s news to me, bud.

Other articles featured were ‘How to Cook in a Bachelor Pad Fridge,’ and ‘Oregon Trail 2.0′ (a Maxim atlas full of places to conduct the gnarliest of gnarly road trips). One article even gave men advice about how to have a proper summer fling. The article was pretty right on, not that summer flings are rocket science. Maxim was having a modest trip so far – I was even debating letting this mag sit on my family coffee table after its use.

And then a lovely little article birthed itself from the Maxim pages. That’s right, we were lucky enough to be given an article titled, ‘The Maxim Porn Dictionary.’ This article defined many pornarific items anyone should be scared to admit they utilize. Beyond defining ‘pedal pumping,’ this article had a lot more to offer. Like how to navigate and use the terms. This is going to be good weird.

Maxim Says: Pony Play: Involves wearing vinyl horse costumes, hooves, bit bridles, harnesses, and saddles, and playing “horsey” while riding your partner around.
Brittany Says: I maybe did this when I was twelve, but sexual intentions were not evident.

Maxim Says: Furry: ‘Furries’ get sexually aroused by wearing animal costumes; they romp with their critter-suited pals at “confurences” and sometimes do the dirty in their fuzzy get-ups.
Brittany Says: I’m never going to look my high school mascot in the eye mesh screen again.

Maxim Says: Tree: Bizarre subset of arborphilia, a sexual attraction to the sexy stumps, thick trunks, seductive bark openings, and beckoning branches of our arboreal buddies.
Brittany Says: When it comes to artistic expression, I can understand that trees are a sacred art form to capture the natural curves of their branches…movement in their leaves…but for actual sexual jive down south? Say it ain’t so.

Maxim Says: Food: The presentation of high-calorie foods as a substitute for sex.
Brittany Says: Can I partially agree with this one? I mean, if I’m hungry and there is a fine spread of delicious grub in front of me. . .no. Food is not substitute for sex. The cucumbers and mayonnaise stay on the sandwich. Bottom line.

Maxim Says: Furniture: ‘Furnies’ get off on stacking furniture in compromising positions and taking pictures of their handiwork.
Brittany Says: This puts Housewives of New Jersey into a sane and innocent place. And after all of those years wondering about the family you nanny, now you know what’s going on if you find a stack of Pottery Barn magazines placed on top of the toilet.

Memorial Day has come and gone, I’ve already sweat through three of my favorite t-shirts and my hair is at 89% frizz.

Yes, it’s officially summer, ladies!

While some people are crazy aren’t major fans of the summer season, most of us at CollegeCandy couldn’t be more excited. What’s not to love about flip flop weather, 7-11 Slurpee runs and going out without having to worry about whether the bar has coat check or not? And the way your sun-kissed skin looks in a coral sundress? Sigh. Is there anything like it?!

With the temps rising the our favorite TV shows coming to an end for the season, it’s time to bust out those summer whites, scrunch some gel into your hair and enjoy the best the summer has to offer. Here are a few of our favorite things. What do you love most out summertime?

Emmy – Loyola University Chicago: My favorite thing about summer is being able to sleep in ridiculously late and laying on the beach.

Sara C – Fordham: Favorite thing about summer? Definitey the overabundance of Mr. Softee roaming around the city. Nothing beats a twist at sunset with friends!

Cristina – Michigan State University: Sitting in the sun with a popsicle and a beer.

Rachael – University of Miami: I’m not a huge fan of summer (I’m almost albino pale, so no beach time for me, and I go to school in Florida anyway), but I guess what I most like about it is the overall sense of freedom: time to be a little lazy, catch up on pleasure reading, wear loose and flowy clothing, etc. Oh! and street fairs in Manhattan – I love shopping there, or even just walking around.

Carly – Grinnell: Favorite thing about summer: the warm weather. I FREEZE nine months out of the year in the Midwest, but summer is the one season during which I can feel as if I live in a tropical climate.

Norah – Drake University: I’m Minnesota-born, so for me, summer means weekends at my family’s cabin. Boating, tubing, waterskiing, hanging out at the beach, fireworks on the lake for the Fourth of July…I couldn’t be more excited. I’m also psyched to catch up on my reading–I just found a book club that’s reading Jane Austen and Willa Cather this summer.

Jessica – Delaware: Backyard barbecues! Who doesn’t love laying by the pool, sipping Coronas and eating cheeseburgers!?

Jessica – Hofstra: My favorite thing about summer is laying on the beach with my friends after a long night out – and talking about every ridiculous thing we did (and probably don’t remember).

Brithny – Duke: The excuse to get fro-yo every. single. day.

Alex – University of South Carolina: Walking the boardwalk at night and Dunkin’ Donuts Lemonade Coolatas (RIP).

Samantha – UCSB: Camp, my birthday and SUMMER FLINGS! Hot hot hot!

Christie – NC State University: I know it’s weird, but I love the smell of sunscreen. Second to that is the feeling of the summer breeze whipping my hair around with the windows down on a road trip.

Brittany – University of Saint Thomas: The simple pleasure of sitting on the front step with my Mom eating a chocolate dipped cone. And night boating to Jimmy Buffett and Sublime.

Sarabeth – University of Texas: Best part about summer is pool/hot tub parties. fo. sho.

Meg – University of Delaware: My favorite thing about summer is spending time in my backyard in the hammock with my dogs (me and two giant Bernese Mountain Dogs is a liiiiittle toasty…) and drinking every night with my friends on the deck. Oh, and playing manhunt around the neighborhood- yeah, I’m cool like that.

Alex – Lakehead: CAMP! Here in Northern Ontario, we refer to cottages as camps, and there is truly nothing better than a day of waterskiing, saunas and a bonfire with beers.

Charlsie – Hollins University: My favorite thing about summer is that every day is a good day to wear a sundress and sandals!

Ricki – University of Michigan: Being able to workout without having to enter a sweaty, smelly, gym.

Kari – Florida State: The best part about summer is opening all the doors and windows, grilling and relaxing in the pool with Coronas!

Finals are over for me (deepest apologies to those of you are still living the hell that is finals week), and the relief is soooo wonderful! Now there’s just the stress of getting moved into my new apartment for the summer, but I have managed to do that mostly successfully so far. (There was one incident involving me, the cart full of boxes I was pushing, and a dumb little Toyota that got in the way, but nothing too important was damaged). So as I now transition to summer mode, it just dawned on me that I am single in the city for the summer. And I can NOT wait!

There are times when every girl gets nostalgic for the benefits that come with being in a real relationship, but now is definitely NOT one of those times. As I listen to my newly-found roommate (thankfully, I was able to work it out so I didn’t have to live with my guy friend) try to figure out how to do long distance with her boyfriend who is in RUSSIA for the summer, I could never be happier to be single.

I’ve done long distance for a few summers, and while it is doable, it’s not exactly the greatest experience ever. Plus, let’s face it, every girl needs a summer fling. My friends have even already taken bets on who they think I’ll end up having a summer fling with, and I just laugh at them. At this point, it doesn’t even matter to me. (And if it happens, it will be with some anonymous Chicago stud that I’ll meet as I explore this great city.) Really, that’s not what I’m thinking about; I’m more focused on me. I’ve finally stopped periodically checking (read: relentlessly stalking) the Facebook pages of both my recent and not-so-recent exes. It’s a stupid, but at the same time monumental, realization in my life that I can say honestly that I am content on my own. I’ve been lying through my teeth and saying that for the past year, but it’s so different to really know that I am fine on my own.

As I sit on my newly decorated balcony, (and ohmigosh I got the cutest chairs!) watching the afternoon traffic go by, I’m looking forward to the tan, barbecues, parties, learning experiences, and maybe even a summer fling that await me in the next few months. And knowing that I’ll be just fine without a boy makes it all the sweeter.

As someone who’s spent a majority of their college career in an LDR, only spending summers and holidays with my guy, I consider myself an expert in the intricacies of the dreaded time apart. Are you thinking of starting one as you and your warm-weather fling get ready for separate schools next fall? Answer the following Q’s to see if you have what it takes!

Drinkin’
When you get drunk, is it impossible for you to keep the flirting to a minimum? Do your beer goggles often lead you to bring guys back for some late night noshing and nooky after the bars?

Do you think that “making out” with a rando is okay as long as it only happens once and you can’t really remember it the next morning?

BFFs
Are you jealous of your girlfriends who are in relationships? If your roommate was sleeping at her boyfriend’s house every night, would you wallow in depression knowing that your boyfriend was miles away?

Stalkin’
Are you a stalker? If your BF got tagged in a Facebook picture with a group of attractive and scantily-clothed girls, would you attempt to hack into his account to make sure that they were “just friends?”

Do you to think its okay to read your BF’s emails and Facebook messages? What about listening to his voicemails? (Be honest… we don’t judge!)

Jealousy/Paranoia/General Craziness
Are you a very jealous person? If your boyfriend didn’t call you for a few hours, would you assume that he was getting it on with his hot treadmill buddy from the gym?

Would you call him more than two times if he didn’t pick up? Have you been known to send out your share of passive aggressive text messages?

Talkin’
Are you bad at talking on the phone? Would you be bummed if you had to skip out on Sunday night dining-hall-binge-sessions with your friends so that you and your boyfriend could recap your weekends with a 60 minute phone call?

Peepin’
Does the thought of getting naughty with your computer’s camera make you uncomfortable? Are you too busy for frequent video-chatting?

Travelin’
Are you a far plane ride away from your guy? Would it cost you a lot of money to visit him as often as you wanted? Is there a time difference that would make everyday communication difficult?

If you answered “YES” to a number of these questions, I’d think twice before jumping into the LDR pool. After all, these are a bunch of fish in the sea, right? Sometimes it’s better to end things when they’re good then end up looking like a drunk crazy stalker who can’t go home alone at the end of the night…

Dear Tuffy Tuv,

So there’s this guyyyyy (isn’t that how all of these emails start out?). I reconnected with someone from high school in the beginning of the summer. We hung out (and hooked up) a few times before he had to go back to school for the summer. At first my mindset was, “Ok, we had a fun summer fling, maybe I’ll see him when he gets back.” And at the time, I was totally OK with the idea.

About a week after he left, he started texting me every once in a while. Then all of a sudden, there was a flurry of communication between us where he said he’d try to sneak out of school one day to see me, and visit again on the 4th. Since these encounters he’s sent me some pretty cute texts about how he can’t wait to see me, hoping I’m free on such and such day so he can visit, etc. This seems like a lot of effort just for some booty. I’m just not sure how to classify this relationship, and whether getting emotionally attached would end up hurting me at the end of the summer. And I HATE HATE HATE having “the talk”; is there any way to get some answers without it?

Thanks,
Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

No.

Well, okay, yes, kind of. You could ask to visit him at school for a weekend. If he’s up for it, go up there and feel it out. If he introduces you to all his little college buddies and takes you to see the campus sights, he’s probably interested. If he just wants to hook up (or if he totally balks at the idea of you visiting in the first place), he’s probably not.

The thing is, Anonymous, guys are actually very easy to understand. The problem is that women (like you, like me) are harda*ses about asking them.

Men are not like women. Women, you know, we want the guy (or the other girl) to guess. We want our partners to understand us without telling them. (You like my little stand-up routine? This is starting to feel like some stand-up comic from the immediately-post-Jerry Seinfeld days. Bear with me, I gots a point.) If you ask a guy a question point-blank, howevs, they will usually tell you the answer. Guys aren’t usually interested in shrouding themselves in mystery. They may do some dumb things, but you gotta hand it to them for their general straightforwardness.

This, of course, does not include dudes that are super shady, in which case some part of you probably knows it and, let me tell you girl, you should stay away stay away stay AWAY!!! (How you like me now, crazy exboyfriend?!)

Anywho, the best way to find out is just to ask. I know you don’t like the talk, but it doesn’t have to be awkward! Just do it in person, over either drinks or ice cream or hamburgers, whatever he likes best. Keep it light and friendly, and be okay with either answer, and it should be totally fine.

You gotta be smoov, girl. That’s right. I said smoov.

Hearts & Skulls,

Email her at TuffyLuv@collegecandy.com and get that shiz answered!!!

Dear Tuffy Luv,

So I’m home from college for the summer and kind of lonely. I dated around this year at school but nothing serious like my high school boyfriend (let’s call him K). Anyway, K is home from school today and we’ve been hanging out but I know he wants to hook up and I think I do too. But I don’t want him to be my boyfriend when I go back to school. Should I hook up with him or not? I’m pretty sure I’m going to. Would that be screwed up?

Tricia

Dear Tricia,

So, like, this is a trick question because you’ve obviously already decided to hook up with him. Right? I mean, why are you gonna write to me and say you’re gonna do it then? Well, anyway, I think you should go for it, so I guess you’re in luck.

Here’re Tuffy’s thoughts:

You can hook up with anyone you want. Just don’t forget to use protection if any kind of sex (oral included, kids!) is gonna go down. But since you’re already emotionally involved with this guy (you DID date him in high school, after all), you’re gonna have to have a Talk.

Splain to him that you wanna hook up but he shouldn’t expect you to go back to how things were. You should also make it very clear that this is For-The-Summer-Only. Summer fling? Fun. Summer Fling That Turns Into Irritating Obligation: Not so much.

However, if you think you’re still going to be friends after all this, prognosis is bleak. Yeah, if you guys are both super well-adjusted AND both have exactly the same amount of no-feelings for each other, you might, just might, be fine. But chances are, history will repeat itself and one of you will have stronger feelings than the other. This happens to everyone, people. Very rarely do both people feel exactly the same way. Anyway, just so’s you know.

Basically, Tuffy sez go for it. But be aware of the probable consequences, okay? Plus, don’t underestimate male jealousy. That shiz just hits us time and time again.

And always use protection!!!

Hearts & Skulls,

Tuffy Luv

As we approach August, we may have started to take summer vacay for granted. In the dog days of summer, it’s easy to sleep until 2 p.m., get caught up on Maury, and not realize we still have our PJs on until it’s time to go back to bed. But with the countdown to Fall Semester ticking fast, it’s important to make the most of every spare minute. Whether you’re working your ass off or dedicated to being a lazy bum until a full courseload kicks back in, it’s time to get in gear and create some glorious summer memories.

1. Take a roadtrip. Sure, gas prices are skyrocketing, but you’re only young once, right? And once you’re shackled into a nine-to-five, you’re going to crave the spontaneity that’s currently yours for the taking. I’m a self-professed workaholic, but even I’ve been known to squeeze in a few quality roadtrips between May and August each year. One summer, I took a fourteen-hour drive to Ohio with two girls from work I barely knew, for the birthday party of one of my brother’s grad school friends. And no, my brother didn’t go. So, three random girls showed up at a party in the boondocks (aka Wooster), and promptly put on our party shoes. Liquor flowed, regrettable hook-ups were had, and the girls and I totally bonded over the experience. Even if you can only spare one day, find a town you’ve never been to before, and head out to explore. You never know what adventures might arise.

2. Go multimedia. Have a photo or videoshoot with your friends. No, you don’t need to be drunk, you just need to be creative. Use the summer foliage as a backdrop. Pretend you’re on America’s Next Top Model and work the runway. Yes, it’s childish, but nobody will know if you seal all the evidence in the vault. I have countless “Dress-Up” portraits, in which I’m dressed as anything from a Spice Girl to a Showgirl, as well as some priceless dance routines caught on tape to Tupac’s “California Love,” in which we substituted rolled-up toilet paper for Pac’s signature bandanna headband. It makes for a quick pick-me-up on future bad days. I didn’t make this stuff myself– go watch Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegates’ “Movie Montage” scene from The Sweetest Thing.

3. Get off your ass. There’s a variety of activities that can fall into this category. Take a bike ride, go rollerblading, go hiking. Hell, go to the local playground and play on the jungle gym. We all know exercise boosts your endorphins, but it’s a also a great way to maintain your tan and your bikini bod. Side note: some of my most romantic summer kisses have occurred on the docks of the local lake or underneath the monkey bars once the sun sets on a sultry summer’s eve.

4. Enjoy the local festivities. Whether it’s a local fair or a weekly farmer’s market, a tour of a historic landmark or a downtown block party… what do you have better to do? Besides, even the smallest towns have kooky summer activities. I know a guy who runs in a citywide roadrace every year, donning nothing but a loincloth. You can also check out the local downhome watering hole that reeks of flannel and flasks. Who knows what goes down when the townies come out to play?

5. Have a midday drinking festival. Seriously, this is the time in our lives when we can do it without being labeled an alcoholic. During every spring semester of my college career, I wouldn’t skip a single class until the first nice day of spring. Then, my friends and I would cut every single class to sit out on the quad and booze it up from inconspicuous Nalgene bottles. Sure, school’s been out for weeks, but you can still have a good old daylight drinking binge on a random Tuesday. The good news? You’ll probably pass out early enough to get a head start on tomorrow. The better news? If you follow this step, you can move on to the local festivities or the multimedia extravaganza.

Just don’t attempt a summer roadtrip if you’ve already been hitting the bottle in 90-degree weather.
