Your Welcome-to-Summer-Break Pre-Party Playlist

As much as I love the last day of classes every school year, I’ll be honest: summer sorta stresses me out. I just never really know what the break will bring. I always worry how painful my summer job or internship might be, if I’ll have to awkwardly hang out with my old high school “friends,” and, of course, there’s always the strong possibility that my parents will drive me absolutely crazy. On the flip side, there’s also always the chance of hot summer hookups, barbecues and crazy summer nights.

Despite all that’s unknown, though, the one thing that’s for sure is we’ll have a great new selection of music to listen to, no matter what pool or beach we find ourselves at, presumably shivering, this month. Read More »

Put This on Your iPod: Weezer’s Blue Album

[Sarabeth here, back with some more jams to add to your iTunes library! Every Wednesday, I'm bringing you music suggestions - could be something new, old, hugely popular or fairly unknown -  to awesome-ify your  collection.]

Well, springtime in central Texas was short lived. We had a week of 70 degree weather, but now it’s back to being balls hot. For that one brief period of AMAZING weather, I reveled in being able to drive around town with my windows down and my music way, way up. And nothing says window-down music like a little old school. And nothing says old school like Weezer’s Blue Album. (You know, when they were still good.)

About the Band:
Weezer is an alternative rock back hailing from, of course, LA, California. Front man Rivers Cuomo is currently backed up by Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shiner. While famous in their own right, back in the day their first gig was opening for Keanu Reeve’s band, Dogstar Read More »

CollegeCandy’s ‘Sounds Like Summer’ Playlist

A few weeks back we had you enter to win a pair of shoes from Havaianas’ new shoe line by telling us your favorite summer jam. And as we looked through that long list of summer songs to find our winner, we could almost smell the SPF 30 and icy cold sangria. Yeah, we’re officially jonesing for some summer.

But until it’s actually warm enough to slather on the sunscreen and dip our toes in the (kiddie) pool, we”ll just have to find our summer lovin’ in another way. And we’ve got just the plan: CollegeCandy’s Sounds Like Summer playlist, curated by YOU!

So sit back, pour yourself a margarita, crank the heat, and rock out with your tan lines out.

CollegeCandy’s ‘Thanks for the Good Times, Summer’ Playlist

After countless barbecues and Bud Light Limes (or being stuck inside at your unpaid internship all day), summer is sadly coming to an end. Waaaaah (Snooki voice). But seeing your tan fade doesn’t mean there’s no more time for fun in the sun.

I’ve got three words: Labor Day weekend.

The last hurrah of summertime, so to speak. And to honor the goodness that was the past three months, we’ve created the perfect end-of-summer playlist to give this season the proper send-off.

Get your freak on right here.

The Know: F*ck You (and F*ck Her Too)

There are a few things in life that never cease to put me in my happy place.

Frozen Yogurt.
An awesome concert.
Pumpkin Spice Lattes in the fall/iced coffee in the spring – both while sitting outside.
Cozying up in bed on a rainy afternoon with some childhood classic movie – The Parent Trap remake anyone?! (Amazing movie but still makes me sad for LiLo.)
A late night convo with my best friends.
A new song that I love so much I keep listening to it on repeat:

Monday night, when I interviewed our surprise guest (check back for our ’90s bracket results and our surprise interview later today!) he/she/it told me about this new song saying it was a MUST listen. Insisting that as soon as we get off the phone I go listen to it on YouTube, even going so far as to email me her/his favorite version of the song. This person was so passionate about this new jam that I thought anyone who goes on and on about this song with a total stranger is either A) totally overselling it or B) totally onto something good. My Warm Weather Playlist

summer-drive-1.jpgNow that the weather is finally starting to stay warm, it’s time for me to switch up the tunes. Goodbye sad, somber, and as my best friend calls “suicide music;” Hello happy, sassy beats.

So without further a do, these are the songs that pretty much define summer for me…

Where the Streets Have No Name, U2

This song screams driving with the windows down on a sunny day. No matter how much Bono has changed and grown up, he will always be that young Dublin lad singing his heart out on a rooftop.

What I Got, Sublime

This song has been played at every single party, barbeque, outdoor event I’ve ever been to. It pretty much defines summer for me. And I still love when Bradley Nowell plays the gui-tar like a motherfucking riot. Read More »
