Sundays Are For Procrastinating: Best of Super Bowl Commercials

I’m going to be honest here and admit that the only reason why I know who’s playing in the Super Bowl is because of my roommates’ obsession. One of my roommates is rooting for the Giants, while the other is cheering on the Patriots. Did you know “Pats” is short for “Patriots?”…I didn’t. Anyway, it’s probably obvious by now that I don’t really “watch” the Super Bowl. However, I do actually enjoy the commercials. The Super Bowl is the only time when commercials are actually entertaining.

So, in honor of Super Bowl Sunday, here are ten entertainingly hilarious commercials that have been shown at the Super Bowl. Read More »

The Super Bowl of Drinking Games

Tomorrow, February 6th, 2011, all American eyes will be glued to their television sets, but not everyone will be so into the game. Maybe it’s because football isn’t their thing or maybe it’s because they wagered way too much money in the puppy bowl and are now majorly stressed. Whatever the reason, no one should be left out on all the Super Bowl Sunday fun. So put all those free beers at the Super Bowl party to use and let’s get hammered play a drinking game!

For those who know next to nothing about football or how it’s played, this is a great way to learn.

Here’s how it’s done:
Everyone split up into teams (Packers and Steelers are playing, for those who are aren’t in the know). Next, everyone pick a player on the offense that they’ll be representing. I totally call Aaron Rodgers! Yum. Basically, every time your player does something good you take a drink. Every time your player or team screws up, you drink more.

Drink assignments are as follows (and if you don’t know what these things are, ask the least judgmental person at the party to explain it. Or at the very least have that person tell you when to drink): Read More »

Your Go-To Guide for Super Bowl XLV

If you are anything like 99.9% of your fellow Americans, you know that this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. Super Bowl Sunday has transcended beyond merely a football game to decide which team is the champion of the NFL and has turned into a de facto American holiday. This makes sense seeing as Super Bowl Sunday combines the best characteristics from our favorite holidays: there is more drinking than Cinco de Mayo, more American pride than Fourth of July, more food (pizza, chicken wings and chips anyone?) than Thanksgiving and having your team play in the game can be a better gift than anything you could find under your tree on Christmas morning.

Some of us watch the game because we are die-hard football fans and some will simply tune in to judge the commercials (which cost a cool $3 million for 30 seconds). Whichever category you fall into, you’ll need to know what’s going on. And I’m here to help!

This is your quick go-to guide for everything you need to know about this year’s Super Bowl matchup: the teams, the players to watch, and fun factoids you can use to impress people over nachos. Eat up! Read More »

The Weekly Ten: Best Super Bowl Commercials

So, who else has a mean hot wing hangover this morning? Seriously, my heartburn is out of control and I didn’t even pound Budweisers last night. In fact, I was so busy licking BBQ sauce off my finders, I couldn’t tell you who threw (kicked? passed?) the winning touchdown. I can, however, tell you the best recipe for some wings. And the best/funniest/awesomest commercials from the Super Bowl.

But before we get to that, I have one question:

What was with all the pantsless commercials? Ugh, I definitely saw more than my fair share of saggy whiteys hanging off the back of old, hairy men. And it was not pretty.

Missed the game? Summary: The Saints (ya know, that team that Kim Kardashian’s BF plays for) beat the Colts (ya know, that team that Kendra Wilkinson’s hubby plays for), and here are the top 10 best commercials of 2010′s Super Bowl: Read More »

CollegeCandy’s Guide to Super Bowl XLIV

Let’s be serious: everyone and their mother (literally) watches the Super Bowl. Whether it’s for phenomenal commercials, gorgeous athletes, a scandalous halftime show, or for the actual sport, the entire country stops what they’re doing on Super Bowl Sunday and tunes in.

Personally, I watch for a combination of all four of these reasons (plus 4 hours of dipping delicious crispy things into delicious mushy stuff), and revel in every second of it. Sure, I’m used to being a little more involved in the actual outcome of the game (I’m a Steelers fan, so I’m used to winning these type things….), but this time I really am excited, because its going to be a battle of two great powerhouses this season. From PopEater. Super Bowl Commercials: 2010 Preview

$2,600,000.

That’s what 30 seconds of air time costs during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Can’t afford it? We can’t either, though we’d love a spot involving Paris Hilton licking an over-sized lollipop, rollerblading through an All-American neighborhood, led by a jive talking goat on a leash. We can dream at PopEater, but only the big bad boys of commerce cough up the cash to advertise during the grandest American event of the year. Here’s a sneak peak at the ads 90 million or so of you will see this Sunday.

The Fab 5: Best Super Bowl Commercials EVER

budweiserfrogs.jpgGuys usually watch the Superbowl for the actual football game (or in some cases *ahem, my dad* as an excuse to shove as much pizza and wings they can get down their throats). As a sports-crazy girl (go Duke basketball!) I also watch it for the action, but I can understand if some non-sporty people don’t feel as enthusiastic about a bunch of big, padded guys running into each other and chasing after a little ball. At least, that’s how my mom puts it.

But she’s found an entertaining reason to join our whole family during this epic February event: the commercials. This year, NBC Superbowl commercials will cost companies $3 MILLION dollars for 30 seconds of air time! That’s equal to $100,000 for 1 second. Aren’t we in a recession?

Anyway, to celebrate the fact that our economy is in shambles but we still have enough money for ads with talking frogs and cowboys chasing cats, here are my favorite 5 Superbowl commercials of all time: Read More »
