I’m going to be honest here and admit that the only reason why I know who’s playing in the Super Bowl is because of my roommates’ obsession. One of my roommates is rooting for the Giants, while the other is cheering on the Patriots. Did you know “Pats” is short for “Patriots?”…I didn’t. Anyway, it’s probably obvious by now that I don’t really “watch” the Super Bowl. However, I do actually enjoy the commercials. The Super Bowl is the only time when commercials are actually entertaining.

So, in honor of Super Bowl Sunday, here are ten entertainingly hilarious commercials that have been shown at the Super Bowl.

It’s pretty well known that the Superbowl features some of the best TV ads of the year. Most of those ads involve beer, scantily clad women…or both. Really exciting for your guy friends, not so exciting for you. But this year, H&M is looking out for us ladies, because their ad features a scantily clad man!

H&M’s new underwear ad featuring David Beckham is set to debut this Sunday during the Superbowl. Beckham collaborated with H&M to design the new bodywear collection, and luckily for us he’s modeling it himself. He says he’s looking forward to Superbowl Sunday. So are we, David, so are we. My first Valentine’s without a boyfriend, I found myself alone with only Ben & Jerry (and maybe Jose Cuervo) to comfort me. I watched Kate & Leopold. I watched A Walk to Remember. I watched The Notebook. To top it all off, I ate half of my body weight in chocolates that my mother sent me. DE-PRESS-ING.

So after three consecutive Valentine’s Days cursing happy couples and dressing like Marilyn Manson, I figured there had to be a better way to “celebrate” and vowed to never be the bitter, depressing, single girl again. And for the past three years, I have had the happiest and most fun Valentine’s Days ever. And I’ve been single for every single one.

I can truthfully state that, as a single girl, Valentine’s Day is now my third favorite holiday (after Christmas and Super Bowl Sunday, of course).

My other single girl friends (all my single ladies!) and I made a pact to treat Valentine’s Day differently and make it better than the good ‘ol days when we had boyfriends to buy us jewelry and roses. We all spend the day together; we even go out in public (we’re brave) with all the happy couples holding hands and glowing with the aura of young love.

We make our Valentine’s Day special and spend it with people we love – like a traditional Valentine’s Day – we just spice it up with a bit more fun and a lot more estrogen.

First we play Secret Cupid (just like Secret Santa) and each draw a name from a hat, and then buy that person a gift (for under $15). Then on the 14th, we all get gussied up, go out to a fabulous dinner, where we treat ourselves to cocktails and desserts, and reveal our Secret Cupid and hand out the gifts. After, we go see the latest chick flick release that corresponds with the holiday. This year, we can’t wait to see Valentine’s Day and the ensemble cast that includes Taylor Squared. (FYI, Taylor Lautner is finally 18 on February 11th, so we can all be legally attracted to him now!! Unfortch, we still have to wait a little longer on Justin Bieber).

Not only do we benefit from the Valentine’s Day restaurant specials (there are some awesome deals out there!), but we get presents and get incredibly tipsy while having a fabulous time. We’re straight out of a scene from Sex and the City, except not as old and we aren’t trying to sleep with the waiter. Well, most of us….

It’s a drama free night with zero expectations. We don’t have to make declarations of our love to each other (although we do!) and don’t have to have any DTR talks about what stage of the relationship we’re in. But we do get the same benefits that couples get on Valentine ’s Day by spending the holiday with people we love… we just have a different soundtrack. Rather than Marvin Gaye on our iPods to get us in the mood, we blast Beyonce’s song and scream about our singleness.

I am single. I am single. I am single and I love Valentine’s Day, and I am not afraid to say it!

Maybe it will be a friendly game after all.

It’s been almost a month since Iowa dominated the Orange Bowl the college bowl games, and I am already going through fits of withdrawal. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night on my couch, wearing a jersey, with my hand in a bag of pretzels and have no idea how I got there. Sighh, it’s going to be a long seven months until next season.

But lucky for me, the Super Bowl is here to take my mind off that so I can enjoy day-drinking and eating obscene amounts of nine-layer taco dip and wings once again.

After the nail-biter championship game last Sunday, the Super Bowl will be sure to not disappoint. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints beat out Brett Favre’s Green Bay Packers Minnesota Vikings in overtime to become the NFC champions and move on to face Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. And there is no better way to celebrate this great coming together of teams than with a lot of beer…

Yes, it’s time for another CollegeCandy drinking game!

Now, there are plenty of football drinking games out there, but this one has been specially created with you lovely ladies in mind. So break out the beer bong and add some Super Bowl decorations to your plot on FarmVille (okay, maybe that’s just me), because here we bring you the CollegeCandy’s Official Super Bowl Drinking Game!

First, it’s crucial that you pick a team to drink to, unless you woke up feeling like P. Diddy and are ready to take on drinking for both. So pick your favorite team (or whichever you deem has the hottest players), your favorite beer–I don’t recommend mixed drinks for this!–and get ready for some sweaty man-on-man action FOOTBALL! (For reference, I usually judge one drink as one sip, not one huge gulp!)

Whenever your team…

Gets a First Down: drink 5
Intercepts the ball: drink 10
Sacks the Quarterback: drink 10
Kicks a field goal: drink half of your beer
Gets a safety: drink half of someone from the opposing team’s beer
Scores a touchdown: chug half of your drink while you do your best celebration dance
Scores a touchdown off a punt return: chug a full beer and run around the room with your arms in the air

But it can’t all be good.

Whenever your team…

Misses a field goal: scream at the TV, then drink 10
Throws an interception: scream obscenities at the TV, then drink 15
Fumbles: drink 5 (but don’t drop your beer on the floor)
Gets a penalty called: push someone from the opposing team, then drink 5
Quarterback gets sacked: Cry, then drink 5

So those are the basic rules. If you’re planning to drink with guys, they might just stick to that. But if the drinking solely revolved around the game, you’d only be drinking 1/3 of the time (seriously, how does an hour long game last for over three?). Here are a few extras to help liven up the in-between play time.

5 Drinks every time:
A lame car commercial takes up 30-seconds that could have been filled with something far more entertaining.
A cute puppy scores a touchdown during the Puppy Bowl (on Animal Planet during halftime!).
A Peyton Manning commercial comes on.
You ask a guy in the room to explain what just happened.
You secretly wish you had a Cosmo instead of Busch Light.

10 Drinks every time:
The camera zooms in on Kim Kardashian (15 if they mention her badonk, 20 if they mention her potential engagement).
Brett Favre retirement is mentioned.
A member of Peyton’s family is talked about (Archie or Eli).
The camera flashes a cute little kid is holding a sign.
You switch over the the Law and Order: SVU marathon.
The Janet/Justin boob-slip is brought up.

And if you want to get especially saucy and don’t feel like going to class until Thursday, drink 1:
When the quarterback throws a pass.
The Who says the word “who” during the halftime show.
For every yard Reggie Bush runs.
For every yard Peyton Manning throws.

Alright ladies, you have the rules and now the only thing left to do is wait until 6pm EST this Sunday, February 7th to tune into CBS for the showdown! And if drinking, good commercials and some really great football don’t excite you, maybe the best butts in the NFL will.

As someone that has never been able to look the other way when there are snacks on the table (and feel a constant urge to reach out my hand and grab a few them all), I have come up with some healthier options to help you stay slim and satisfied at the same time.

What not to make/eat: Grandma’s Seven Layer Mexican Chip Dip

Weve all sampled this delicious partner to the trusty Tostito. Made with one layer each of refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, salsa, olives and lettuce, you’re bound to gobble up hundreds of calories. Add tortilla chips or tacos to the mix and you’ll really be in trouble. Plus, it’s so good that you know you won´t stop eating after just a few bites.

What to make/eat instead: If you can´t kick your craving for something creamy, substitute a low-fat dressing (Ken´s brand Light Caesar and Ranch are two of my personal favorites) for the dip and fill a bowl with veggies instead of chips. If you can´t go the vegetable route (because the guys won’t stop making fun of you), buy low-fat Wheat Thins, Triscuits, or pita chips instead of the greasy Tostitos.

What not to make/eat: Mozzarella sticks, fried chicken wings, mini hot dogs (aka Pigs in a Blanket), French fries, or any other member of the fried ‘n oily family. In addition to being unhealthy, these foods are usually so small that you eat 20 of them before realizing that you have just descended into a pit of fat.

What to make/eat instead: Bruschetta is a great bite-sized substitute for the culprits listed above. Because it´s made with toast, you still get the crunch factor while eliminating tons of fat. The topping can be made in a snap by combining garlic, cucumber, tomatoes, onion, salt, pepper, olive oil, and vinegar. Drizzling your mini toasts with olive oil before baking will also add a lot of flavor. There are also tons of healthy alternatives to the typical Super Bowl fare, like baked buffalo wings or fries.

And for the drinks…

Everyone knows that alcohol is caloric, especially when downing multiple glasses of sugary margaritas, mojitos and Long Island Iced Teas. If you can´t get the party started without something to wet your whistle, however, look for Michelob Ultra: this beer only has 95 calories and 2.5 grams of those dreaded carbohydrates per bottle. And if beer isn’t your thing, mix yourself a little vodka soda for only about 70 calories.

In the end, no one will stop you from adding to your unfortunate holiday weight gain by downing unhealthy snacks during the Big Game. It’s all you. But, if you can’t commit to these healthy alternatives, try eating a handful of roasted almonds, dried fruit, or a few rice cakes before walking out the door. This will ensure that you’re not starving when you arrive at your friend’s house, and hopefully prevent you from gorging on barbecue chicken wings before the first quarter even starts.

As an avid Vikings fan (and recent purchaser of a brand new Favre jersey) I have resorted to chocolate and the fetal position this morning. I’m devastated.

But I am willing to bet the rest of us are wondering why the Saints, Reggie Bush, Brett Favre, and the Vikings are filling up our Twitter trending topics list and taking over our Facebook News Feed. What is the big hype? Why are all your guy friends crying? And why is it such a big deal the Saints won and the Vikings lost (besides the world being one step closer to a Kim Kardashian wedding)?

Let’s take a closer look.

The Minnesota Vikings:
It wasn’t a fabulous night for Minnesota Vikings fan as the hopes for the Superbowl sailed into the hands of the Saints players.  Quite literally, quarterback Brett Favre may have thrown the most depressing interception of his life with seconds left to play and a chance for Minnesota to go to the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years.

But last night’s game wasn’t the only dramz for the Vikings; the story of the team really has been a fickle reality show for the masses. After announcing retirement with the Green Bay Packers, Favre dove back into the game with their biggest rivals, The Minnesota Vikings. For some Green Bay fans, the feeling was equivalent to your best friend dating your girlfriend. Like, ouch.  And as Favre was turning 40, many people wondered when he’d stop “playing the field” and stay home. Throughout the season he proved everyone wrong and carried the Vikings all the way to the NFC Championship with his intense spiral and his own rendition of “Pants on the Ground.” We Vikings fans had high hopes for the team and expected nothing but a Super Bowl celebration last night.

But after such an exciting season (and a long night spent gnawing on the sleeve of my new Favre jersey), the loss was more depressing than a One Tree Hill episode.

The New Orleans Saints:
Five years ago, after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city and destroyed the Super Dome, the New Orleans Saints did not have a home or certain future. Everyone wondered if the team could ever come back and if the city could ever have something to celebrate. And last night, New Orleans got what they’ve long deserved. The Super Dome echoed with cheers and happiness as the Saints defeated the Vikings. Now they are headed for their very first Super Bowl (yay!) against the Indianapolis Colts.  The support from the people of New Orleans (and perhaps the idea of a major hump sesh for Reggie and Kim) definitely pushed the team to victory and even I, a Vikings fan to the core, can’t help but feel a little good inside (deep, deep down) for the people of New Orleans.

So what happens next? We’ll have to wait until the Colts take on the Saints on February 7th to find out. Until then the questions remain:

Will Reggie Bush put a rock on Kim Kardashian’s finger?
Will the Saints win their first Super Bowl for New Orleans?
Will Favre finally retire? Or will he stay with the Vikings for another chance at the Superbowl? (Favre’s last pass for every team in his career has been an interception. The last pass he tossed last night sailed into the hands of a Saints player.  Coincidence for the Minnesota Vikings?)

This is juicier than a Gossip Girl episode, but unlike GG, I won’t have to wait 3 months to find out the ending.

True Life: I’m a Porn Addict? What?!

So the damn groundhog saw his damn shadow, which means we are in for 6 more glorious weeks of winter. Splendid. WTF, Phil? Why do you hate us so much.

Upon hearing the news we wanted to head to Phil’s hometown and beat the crap out of him (so. sick. of sweaters.), but our therapist (Oprah) always talks about focusing on positive things. So we will.

Instead of hating on Phil – because, afterall, it’s not his fault – we thought we’d make a list of the 5 things and people we currently hate more than Punxatawny Phil. Yay us! We’re so positive!

1. Our alarm clocks – They mean well, but 9am? Really? Don’t you know we were up late watching a hilarious episode of The Office?

2. Comcast – Granted that quick peepee flash to Arizona fans during the Superbowl was disturbingly hysterical, but there were kids watching. And old people. And who does that with their….well, just watch.

3. Mexican food – But only because it was so good last night and so, so, SO bad today.

4. The media calling Jessica Simpson fat - If she’s fat then we’re going on The Biggest Loser.

5. The movie Groundhog Day. It is just bad.

I’ll be the first to admit it. I love Superbowl Sunday for three reasons and three reasons only:

1.The food

2. The advertisements (Remember Britney Spears’ Pepsi commercial/music vid that debuted during the Superbowl? Sigh. Those were the days)

3. The food

There used to be 4 but then Justin showed Janet’s boobs, the FCC went crazy, and the halftime shows became lamer than my past few Saturday nights, which included watching Little Einsteins with my nephew (need I say more?).

Anyways, here is my Super Bowl inspired Love List. Because with the biggest sporting event of the year comes a lot of food things to love.

1. Real Foods Corn Thins. These are my new obsession and they are such a healthy alternative to greasy, nasty (but delicious) chips. They have the same great crunch, salt and flavor, but only 44 calories for two all natural crisps. I love to dunk these puppies in hummus, or spread avocado or black bean dip on them. It is seriously guilt free heaven. (PS. the website has tons of recipe ideas for these amazing bad boys.)

2. After all the salty and cheesy foods that the super bowl party brings, we need something sweet. And while I am no Betty Crocker, every time I make these, people treat me like I am. If only people knew how easy they were to make. (I guess they will now…) And the best part? Without any egg products, you can eat the dough without getting salmonella! Not to mention you can make them 100% organic if you want! Love that!

Vegan Peanut butter Chocolate Chip Oat cookies

1/3 cup of peanut butter

2 tbs vegetable oil

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup milk (soy milk if you want)

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 425

Mix dry and wet ingredients separately, then mix together. Add choco chips.

Bake for 7-8 minutes.

3. Guys on Game Day. So they have chilli dripping down their chins and are double fisting beers. They may be burping and farting and forgetting that girls are around too, but guys on game day are the cutest kind of guy. And I love ‘em. Maybe it’s a guy in sports apparel (faded tee = mmmm), or maybe it’s all that passion for the game. Whatever it is, I can’t get enough.

4. But more than spending time with the guys on game days, an all girls super bowl party is truly what I love most. I don’t need to pretend that I don’t give a damn about the game, because no one else does either. I can eat like nobody’s biz-nass, talk during the game about the cute shoes I found on sale without being shushed, and expect silent during the commercials. I think a Girls Super Bowl Party is the way to go.

5, Ranch Dressing on EVERYTHING. Oh and Dips. And Salty Food. Basically I love everything that involves consumption and getting FAT on Super Bowl Sunday. But thanks to this website I don’t really have to. There are 25 recipies that give you all the flavor of game day with a lot less guilt. Try the Microwave Potato Chips. Sound gross. Looks FAB.
