You’ve got your mattress cover, your mini-fridge, your XL twin sheets, and lots of garbage bags, but there is a whole category of dorm room essentials you are skipping out on. DORMWEAR. Because, if you’re like me, no matter how hard you try and fight the stereotypical college student walking round in pajamas and sweats thang, there are times you will break down.

I by no means encourage you to wear your sweats and pajamas out in public EVER, but a dorm is a whole other realm of the world. Having cozy loungewear comes in handy when you want to fist-pump with the rest of your floor while catching the newest Jersey Shore episode. It’s also handy when you need to do the L in GTL – because everything else you own is stuffed inside that hamper.

But don’t be fooled. Just because you’re lounging doesn’t mean you need to look like a slob. There are so many cute and cozy items out there for you to lounge around in.

And they’re perfect for sleepy time, too. If you’re sharing a bedroom, the person 10-feet away from you will appreciate you wearing pajamas to bed. And if you’re a sleep-in-a-shirt and underwear kind of girl, try keeping a few of these pieces near your bed in case someone pulls the fire alarm in the middle of the night. You’ll thank me for this advice later. Trust me.

September is coming at us full force and for the first time in 15 years, it means absolutely nothing to me. Yup, as a jobless, broke, living on my parents’ couch college graduate I’m not going back to school this year. It’s weird. It’s confusing. It’s really, really sad. [She says as she sighs deeply and bites her quivering lip, crying into her empty planner.]

Being catapulted into the real world has made me realize just how much I took for granted in college. I didn’t think about it when I was roaming the soft hills of the quad to make it to the library. Or when my eyes were bugging out reading the tiny script in my Science book (that cost me 200 buckaroos). I didn’t think of any of this until I was living at home with my parents, paying my loans and watching Jennifer Aniston movies with my mom (check, check aaaand check).

And I won’t let the rest of you make the same mistake. For all of you still in college or about to embark on the big journey, take the time to appreciate the good life. Especially the little things:

1. Free EVERYTHING
Free t-shirts, iPod cases, food, water, snacks, toilet paper…. What I wouldn’t give for some free Tootsie Pops right about now.

2. Walking… Everywhere
Sure, traveling by foot everywhere you go can get exhausting (and you feel the constant urge to drive to class…), but I got so much glorious exercise from power walking from class to class to home to Starbucks to class. Pumping my arms, barely giving one foot enough time to land… I bet I burned thousands of calories every year from Betty Flinestoning my arse around campus.

3. Being Stressed, And Using Stress As An Excuse for Everything
Really…the level of stress in my life in college was always 10 notches below what I always made it seem. And I loved it. Stress is the perfect excuse for overeating, drinking, and making bad decisions. And it was always valid! “It’s OK, I’m stressed so I’m going to let myself watch 10 hours of America’s Next Top Model all Saturday and buy a pack of Dove Chocolates from the C-Store..” Stress blissfully carried me into many hangovers, binge eating sessions and naps on my futon. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

4. Cushy Schedule
I never noticed this as a I pounded through every day in college. Why? Probably because I was busy napping during my 5 hour breaks away until my late night class. A full day of college would have at least 3-800 sweet intervals, offering just enough time for snacking, catching up on TV or catching up on sleep. And your schedule always changed – every day was a little bit different. But the best part of it all? The opportunity to start at 11am and schedule a three-day weekend at the beginning of every semester. Three-day weekends don’t happen in real life.

5. Dumpy Houses Everyone Lives In
Stop complaining about the constantly dirty floors, the drafty windows and the terrible water pressure in the shower. Do you realize how glorious that hut you call home is? A dumpy house calls for a dumpy, carefree lifestyle. You can go over to watch Saturday college football and completely put your feet up, get Dorito crumbs everywhere and leave an open beer on the coffee table. I’m not saying you have to be a complete slob, but Mama isn’t going to come around the corner and convulse on the ground about your terrible living habits. More like your best guy friend is going to crack you open another beer and turn the channel to the Puppy Olympics (helloooo, Superbowl Sunday).

6. Cocktail prices
You won’t realize this until you’re a post-grad coming back for your first year reunion, but bars in college towns are CHEAP.

7. Roommates
Come second semester, sometimes you want to dump your roommate’s face in the dirty dish water in your sink. But stop. Roommates are so underrated. They are always there for you to vent about how slow people are walking on the sidewalk and how the elevator isn’t working…again. They are there to let you dig through their closet and spend a guilt-free Friday night going to see the latest chick flick. With roommates, there’s always someone to do something with. And for that I salute you, former roomies!

8. The “College Dress Code”
You probably shouldn’t wear sweats everywhere in college, but if you want to, it’s totally acceptable. And that’s a wonderful thing.

9. Never seeing People Ages 2-8
In college, I would see little kiddies (on average) once or twice a month. I thought it was so sad…me and my girlfriends would walk through the quad, see a couple with their little girl and start squealing, “Little kids still do exist!! Cute!” I thought it was funny business that lil’ munchkins were never around. Now, after enduring countless hours in locations where babies are always present (i.e local coffee shops, my place of work, malls) I would love to have that brief respite of tears, diapers and sticky fingers.

10. Seeing a Cute Boy at the Gym
Fact: there is just a higher concentration of good looking guys in college.
Fact: Guys look hot when they’re lifting in those gym shorts.
Don’t take that for granted.

What else is underrated in college? SOUND OFF!

It’s that time of year again: time to start thinking about Back To School! The time when the dorm assignments flow in and you start mentally decorating your new room. When you start packing and having late-night Gchats with your friends about your first Welcome Week party. When you start searching Amazon for the cheapest books you can find and, more importantly, your go-to comfort pieces for the season.

This wish list is partly out of courtesy to all my fellow hoodie lovers and partly out of denial about my current life-after-college situation (while you lucky college kids can rock hoodies and sweats all day, every day, it is unfortunately no longer socially as acceptable for me to do so). But regardless if it’s acceptable or not, the Lacy Hoodie from Victoria’s Secret will most definitely remain at the top of my wish list.

No one can deny that the purpose of a hoodie is 100 percent comfort, but when it also boasts edgy fabric and modern details it is for sure a must-have, college schedule or not. Sharing the mullet’s motto, the sweatshirt is all business in the front (with a simple black zip-up) and party in the back (with hot pink satin and a lace overlay).

There is no question how a student will add this into their wardrobe – thrown over a white tank and yoga pants for early morning classes 0 but how a recent grad can slip this item in is a little less obvious.

Last year’s layered trend is still totally in for fall, and I’m in love with the thrown-on-casual look of a tee-hoodie-jean jacket combo. Who isn’t? But swapping out your old college hoodie for the Lacy Hoodie adds an extra ounce of rocker-chic and awesome to an otherwise laid-back weekend look. I’m thinking Saturday afternoon errands in a loose boyfriend tee, the edgy hoodie and a pair of distressed jean shorts. To take the hoodie into night, I’ll transition it by trading the shorts for some dark wash skinny jeans, motorcycle boots and some layered, metal-chained jewelry, creating a bar look that’s the perfect mix of comfort and style. And when I’m sitting in Starbucks in my comfiest sweatpants for hours, scouring the internet for a job, this hoodie will be the perfect transition piece from my lazy college days to my more refined early-twenties life.

I may no longer be able to wake up five minutes before class, slip on sweats and throw my hair in a bun, but still being able to justify hoodies in my wardrobe will make this whole adult life a little easier.

Sure, you would normally look ridiculous in such a shirt (anyone who knows you knows you aren’t a lacrosse…er…athletic kinda girl), but hey! He’s a lifeguard! It’s OK if it’s his!

You wear it home, letting the sleeves hang past your hands and relishing in the glory that …

It's so cozy!

Awww! He lent you his sweatshirt! It’s so comfy and cozy and it smells refreshingly like boy. It’s perfectly worn in, the lifeguard/lacrosse logo beginning to crack and fade at the edges. Sure, you would normally look ridiculous in such a shirt (anyone who knows you knows you aren’t a lacrosse…er…athletic kinda girl), but hey! He’s a lifeguard! It’s OK if it’s his!

You wear it home, letting the sleeves hang past your hands and relishing in the glory that only comes with wearing a sweatshirt of the boy you love. You wear it around your room for the rest of the day. And then, once you’ve finally removed it (because sleeping in it would be weird….right?), you fold the sweatshirt up and lay it on the floor. But what now? What do you do with it? Return it? Do you call him or does he call you? Should he come to get it? And, before he does, can you wear it again? What if it’s cold? Is that weird?

The ol’ sweatshirt exchange doesn’t seem like much, but there’s a whole lot of awkwardness that comes along with that XL perfectly worn-in pull-over. Don’t believe me? Allow me to lay out two very real (in that they happened to me) possibilities.

Holding Onto The Sweatshirt.

So you’ve decided to keep it. He lent it to you and hasn’t asked for it back yet, so it’s yours until he does. It sits on your desk and you just kind of stare at it for a while, leaving it there as you go about your day. Then one day, you’re headed out, and it’s chilly. You glance over at your desk and think, “Hmmm, it is a really warm sweatshirt…and I really like the way it smells. What are the odds he’ll see me in it? Slim to none.” So you head outside and GAHHHHHH THERE HE IS. OH GOD NO. RUN AWAY. RUUUUUNNNNNN AWAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

You aren’t prepared for this. He’s coming over to say hi, but wait, he has just realized that your outfit looks familiar. Oh no. Crud. You’ve been caught. “Hey is that my sweatshirt?” Uh, no, it’s not, it’s someone else’s sweatshirt….with the same last name as you….that played in the same tournament as you in high school.

Oh the awkwardness is palpable. What do you say? WHAT DO YOU SAY? Maybe he thinks you look cute in it? Hopefully he won’t make you take it off right here in the middle of the street. Oh god. Make something up and get out of there. Promise to return the sweatshirt… then run.

Returning The Sweatshirt.

So you’ve decided to return the sweatshirt. Good for you. You’ve made the mature decision to give it back, and maybe even put some thought into it. You put it into a cute little shopping bag and make your way to his room. This can’t go wrong, you’re just going to leave it outside the door and fade into the sunset as an international woman of mystery. You just have to leave it there, and nothing else.

OK, the hall is clear, no one in sight; just hang it on the door handle and – GAHHHHHH THE HANDLE IS MOVING. NO NO NO!!!! Oh my god, it’s his roommate – no, not just one of them, both of them… Oh God no. “Oh hey, Kyle, John, what’s up? I was just in the neighborhood…at 9am on a Saturday. Heh heh, this bag? Nothing, just some sweats…yeah they do look familiar….yeah they actually are Mike’s.” Oh no. So awkward. You need to disappear. You try the Harry Potter spell to apparate. Yeah, it’s dorky but what other options do you have? It doesn’t work. So now you’re standing there. Why isn’t there an App for this!? “Why do I have them? Uh, long story…lab accident? Maybe? Oh he’s out of town this weekend? Cool, so you’ll give them to him? Great, BYE!” Then run.

Gah. Why does it always have to be so complicated? It’s an old ratty sweatshirt! An old, ratty, totally comfortable sweatshirt. That smells like him. And reminds you of the night you snuggled.

Ugh. Why did you return it!? Get one just like it here.

[Last week our Single Girl shared her feelings of jealousy for all her coupled friends. Looks like the grass is always greener....]

I’m getting to that point with my boyfriend that things are getting really comfortable. Since we live together I get to see him 24/7 which unfortunately means he sees me 24/7. AKA he sees me when I have no makeup, am in my sweats, and getting ready for bed. Honestly, there’s really no mystery left.

Flip over to my best friend Erica and her new boyfriend. She’s having all the fun of finding out all about him and she still spends an hour in the bathroom before dates. Then there’s my friend Haley who’s totally taking advantage of being single at college parties and can have a make out sesh whenever she wants with whomever she wants. I love hearing them talk about all the excitement of Erica’s new relationship and Haley’s latest exploits, but it’s starting to hit me that I will most likely never get that kind of excitement again. And I’m jealous!

I do love my boyfriend, and I’m totally OK with giving up stuff like finding out the hot guy at the bar is terrible in bed, or having a blind date with a guy with bad breath, but am I really ready to never have another first kiss? Another first date? Another first sexcapade?

There’s something wonderful about being completely comfortable with someone and knowing that you don’t have to swipe on some eyeliner when you know he’s coming over. And there’s nothing quite like the feeling of knowing someone’s behind you, no matter what. But with all that comfort comes laziness; when you don’t need to impress the other person anymore, why put in any effort?

I love Matt and I love being in a relationship with him, but it’s hard not to miss all the fun and excitement that comes with the single life. And when I think about it, it’s scary to realize that I’ll never have it again. Especially when I’m surrounded by people in the midst of it, living it up and sharing their tales with me.

Anybody else getting green with envy of other girls?

America has more name brands than Law and Order reruns and while you may want to go unload your entire check at GAP or Abercrombie, you don’t want to buy something that you thought was cute and unique and later have buyer’s remorse when you see something identical for less.

I’m not encouraging you to start buying knock off Jimmy Choos from Payless and wanna-be BCBG dresses at Walmart (although, just throwing it out there, you may find some very GOOD knock offs). All I’m saying is you should know that EVERY store is competing with another store and when you shop competitively, you save money. Money that you can use to stimulate the economy…or your wardrobe.

So I thought I’d help you sift through the proverbial mall and figure out which stores are best for your budget. Each week I’ll be comparing apples to apples (or undies to undies) to give you the real deal and arm you with the knowledge you need to make the wisest wardrobe choices. Ready. Set. SHOP.

Aerie vs. Victoria Secret Pink
Whoa, didn’t see that one coming did you? In fact, some of you are sitting on your bed thinking, “Are you serious, there is no competition!”or “Those two aren’t even the same.” Well, ladies, think again.

PINK
You know Victoria’s Secret Pink.

History
You’ve been to Pink before so I’m not going to bore you with a description of the store, but here is a little info on that brightly lit store blinding you on your way to Starbucks.

* Since its creation, Pink has been hailed the #1 Loungewear brand in the World (well at least, according to LimitedBrands, the parent company of Victoria’s Secret and Pink).
* In 2008, VS launched their “Exclusive Collegiate Co-branded Collection” and they currently own the rights to more than 33 colleges and universities in the country.
* They are best known for their loose fitting, extra soft sweatpants boasting giant peace signs.
* Some of their most popular items are their PINK tote bags and new, trendy college hoodies.

Pricing
Thong: $9.50 (or 5 for $25)
Bra: (about) $30
T-shirt: $15
Sweatpants: $30 (or 2 for $50)
“Frilly” panties: $9.50 (or 5 for $25)
“Plain” panties: $7.50 (or 5 for $25)
Shoes: $35
Other adorable stuff: $20 (except for that adorable mascot puppy; he’s usually free!)

Now for the competition:

Aerie
It’s new, it’s cute and, YES, it’s competing with VS Pink.

History
* In 2006, American Eagle Outfitters Inc., the parent company of American Eagle Outfitters, launched their “intimates sub-brand,” Aerie.
* They take a more pastel approach to the “dorm-wear” fad
* Their simplistic, yet dainty color schemes of light blues and pinks makes them appeal to less brazen crowd.
* On October 13, 2009, Aerie’s Customer Loyalty Pass (aka their A-List Pass that some of you currently own) surpassed over 1 million in a little over a year, which is pretty big deal for a newer store.
* The ambiance of the store is enough to pull even the most timid shopper in.

Pricing
Thong: $7.50 (or 5 for $25), $10.50 (or 4 for $25) and $12.50 (or 3 for $25). The most expensive individual thong you can buy is $14.50.
Bra: $24
T-shirt: $20 (or BOGO)
Sweatpants: $34.50
“Frilly” panties: $10.50 (or 4 for $25)
“Plain” panties: $7.50 (or 5 for $25)
Shoes: No shoes, they cut those about 6 months ago, but they sell booties and slipper socks that’ll run you about $29.50 each
Other adorable stuff: $ 20

You be the Judge
So, what did YOU guys think? According to survey of 30 girls or so, this is what you guys said:

- 81.8% of you guys said you prefer Pink to Aerie
- Every month, 50% of you girls spend between $25-$75 in Aerie or Pink
- 82.6% of you guys shop at Victoria ‘sSecret more than you do American Eagle.

When asked what you hated or loved about Aerie OR Pink, this is what you said:

“I love Pink because it offers me a variety of retail and it’s fun, flirty, and fresh.”
“Aerie just doesnt appeal to me. Something about it seems rugged and not sexy enough.”
“Sweatpants should never cost $70. Too expensive”
“Aerie is boring”
“I don’t like the way PINK bras fit, they’re too low cut for me and I feel like I’m falling out of them all day.”

At the end of the day, neither store is traditional nor is either store “cheap,” but in both, you can expect to find something that will make you smile and something super comfy to wear to class. Or maybe something you can take off for your male friend later…

What do you have to say? Which do you prefer?

When it comes to fashion, us college girls have standards to uphold. In the fall we must waltz into lecture in a pair of killer leather boots and a blazer. When winter hits, it’s our chance to show off all of our scarves and that cute button down pea coat. Then we enter spring, when mom ships us all of our jean skirts, sundresses and cute tanks.

But every single one of us has that day (or week) when real clothes just aren’t going to happen, whatever the reason:

1.	You partied way too late and can barely open your crusty eyes. And…the walls may still be spinning.

2.	It is below zero and blizzarding outside your dorm window, and your linoleum floor sends an icy chill up your leg when you get out of bed.

3.	You have a test/essay due and spent the last 26 hours awake…at your computer.

Bottom line: You are not squeezing into jeans, a dress or any other article of clothing that requires zipping/squeezing/thinking. You are wearing sweats and UGG’s and that’s that. Luckily, while sweats can hardly be considered proper attire for any public venue, there are tons of new styles and options out there that won’t have everyone shooting you dirty looks as you run into class 20 minutes late.

So, if you’re gonna go with sweats, be a dear and go with a pair of these: comfy enough for an off-day, but cute enough that no one has to know.

The classic Juicy track pant. Expensive? Yes. But also flattering on your butt and super cheap when you consider how often you’ll wear these.

The flat front on these Gap pants won’t add bulk and the non-fleece material makes them a much fancier alternative to those sorority butt pants you’re always walking around in.

Twisted Heart sweats are pricey, but they have a lot of great details that set them apart from your standard sweats. Like the fact that they are long for us tall girls who don’t want to wear boy’s sweatpants.

I love the detail at the knee. These aren’t your standard I-just-went-for-a-run capris – they fit close to the body and can be paired with a cute tank or cami for a cute and comfy class ensemble.

I love Lululemon groove pants, but these are even better – they look like denim! No one has to know that the waist is elastic.

While hoodies don’t exactly have a rep for being fashionable, every girl has a few in her closet. They are pretty much THE staple in every college wardrobe since they are comfy, warm, and easily slip on over whatever you wore to bed last night. Even hardcore fashionistas have lazy days!

Since you most definitely have one (or 6) zip-ups in your closet, I’ll give you a few different ways to wear them so you look more casual cute and less “Holy sh*t I just woke up in my boyfriend’s room and I’m 20 minutes late for class so I’ll just borrow his clothes and run out of the door.”

Contrary to popular belief, that is not cute.

Hoodies are extremely versatile and as long as you get the fit right (read: fitted!), you can wear them with just about anything.

Try pairing a hoodie with skinny jeans and flats to keep it stylish. When comfort is your goal, look past the sweats and throw on a roomy pair of boyfriend jeans or gaucho pants instead. Swap slides, sandals or casual flats in for sneakers so you don’t look like you should be at the gym.

Yes, it’s that easy. Looking good in college doesn’t take time – you just need to pay attention to the way your stuff fits. And if you have a few good hoodies around, you’ll always be one pair of jeans away from a cute ‘fit for class.

If there’s one thing we all know, it's that college is basically it’s own little universe. It's that beer-drinking, bar-hopping, Cliff Notes-reading, coffee-chugging "safe haven" between the comfort of your parent's home and that place everybody calls "the real world." And unfortunately, we all know that "real world" is much less exciting than MTV moguls would lead us to believe.

If there’s one thing we all know (but often try to deny), it’s that college is basically it’s own little universe. It’s that beer-drinking, bar-hopping, Cliff Notes-reading, coffee-chugging “safe haven” between the comfort of your parent’s home and that place everybody calls “the real world.” And unfortunately, we all know that “real world” is much less exciting than MTV moguls would lead us to believe.

As a senior, I’ve finally realized one very important thing: College is awesome. And there’s quite a lot of sh*t you can get away with here that just isn’t gonna fly once you graduate. For example:

1.	Mid day naps. Unless you decide to hightail your pretty bum down to Mexico or start your own company or something, midday siestas are generally not in the typical workin’ girl schedule. Oh, how I love the five hour breaks in between my classes.

2.	Threesomes. Unless you want to end up like Charlotte in SATC, watching your dude getting’ frisky and feelin’ up some rando-girl while you stand awkwardly on the sidelines, I think threesomes are definitely better explored pre-graduation. I think almost everybody has at least one wild hookup story (that may or may not involve multiple partners) by the time they leave college. And that’s where those kind of explorations should probably stay. In college.

3.	All nighters and Adderall binges. I’m pretty sure it’s not “adultlike” to stay up all night, downing cups of coffee and caffeine pills (or whatever your all-nighter drug of choice may be) to finish whatever crazy task your boss asks of you. Purple bruise-like bags under your eyes will never be sexy. Especially for an early morning meeting.

4.	Pizza diets. Depending on where you live, life’s little luxuries, like one dollar slices on Monday nights, might not be at your disposal the way they are now. Nor should they be. You will be an adult and should be eating real food. Like steak or something.

5.	The Uggs and North Face uniform. Or any variation, such as: Victoria’s Secret PINK collection from head-to-toe, matching college sweatshirts and sweatpants, etc. Real jobs require real clothes.

6.	Tuesday bar hopping. I’ve already accepted that life is probably going to suck hardcore without one dollar cherry bombs on Tuesday night. I try to tell myself that I might be able to pull off being a member of the “Tuesday Crew” every once in awhile for the first few years after graduation. Or at least until I start to resemble my mother who gets a four day hangover after sipping half a glass of wine…spritzer.

7.	Sleeping on random couches. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve done it. Quite a few times. …Without realizing it until the next morning. In the “real world,” I’m pretty sure people take stock of who is in their house when three a.m. rolls around. Maybe.

8.	Meal plans. As much as college cafeteria food sucks, I think I’m really gonna miss late night mozzarella cheese stick feasts courtesy of Mom and Pops. In the “real world,” you can’t just go into some fancy sushi restaurant with your co-workers and hand the waiter your college ID and wave him off.

9.	Making out with your best girl friends at bars and parties. In the “real world,” it’s no longer socially acceptable to grab your girlfriend’s face at the bar (..or you know, your company’s holiday party) and scream, “Let’s make out!” at the top of your lungs before proceeding to play tongue-tackle in front of a crowd. Unless you’re a total Debbie…as in, desperate. Or dumb. (Thanks, Paris!)

10.	Peeing in public places. In college, it’s normally (but not always!) kosher to pop a squat in the backyard at a party when the b-room runs of out T.P. In the “real world,” you’ll get arrested and labeled a sex offender before you can even empty your bladder.

11.	Posting party photos on Facebook. This basically goes without saying. Once you graduate (hell, maybe even before then nowadays), don’t even THINK about posting that pic of you on the toilet throwing the peace sign. And, just to make sure you have all your bases covered, you’ll probably want to invest in an external hard drive so you can save all your old faves from undergrad and delete all incriminating photos off the internets forever.

Anything else you can think of that just can’t happen in the real world but is totally fine in college?

For those of us attending school in the north, fashion is often abandoned in order to stay, well, warm. I whole-heartedly admit to dragging myself to class in my warmest sweatpants, topped off with my very unfashionable, but EXTREMELY cold-resistant ski jacket.

Heck, here in Canada, it’s not odd to see students sporting Sorel boots (yeah, the boots mountain people wear).

And don’t even get me started on headwear. People at my school who aren’t dressed warmly enough opt for a homemade-turban look, using an extra sweater they have in their bag! Atrocious!

What is even more upsetting is that with a little research and planning (um, like checking the weather before leaving the house!), you can keep the blood circulating in your skull and still look cute!

CollegeCandy has done the leg work for you and presents you with a list of super chic, and more importantly, WARM, options for your noggin. Yes, it is possible to stay warm and keep the hair intact.

1. A Beret or Beanie

Since berets popped on the scene, they have been unstoppable! They are a much better option than a baseball cap in the summer and now, like this one on the left, come in a variety of thick, warm knits for winter. With it’s chunky cables and generous size, it will most certainly keep your ears from freezing on a cold winter’s day. Plus, this one from Urban Outfitters comes in eight different colors, so go ahead and stock up! You can look fresh and cute all season long.

The Beanie. An undeniable classic. Popular among jocks, skaters and gang-members alike, it serves its function perfectly; to keep your head warm! This year Volcom has released an updated version that I find irresistible! With its quirky mix of colors and loose fit, the Blizzard Beanie is sure to fit into an eclectic wardrobe. Bonus: The loose fit also ensures that your hair with stay bouncy and perfect, instead of getting flattened like the typical winter hat.

2. A Ski Cap

Apres ski is always a go-to look for celebrities. Rosy cheeks, windblown hair, fashionable outerwear and – to top it all off – the perfect ski hat, just like this one (left) by Mischa Lambert. Featuring super chunky yarn, crocheted tight to ensure heat retention, ear flaps AND cute pom-poms! It comes in black and white, so it is guaranteed to match your favorite jacket, not matter the color.

Free People’s Norway Love Earflap Hat puts a totally different spin on this shape. Playful and colorful, this hat alone can be the centerpiece of your outfit. Perfect for braving the slopes or the walk to class.

3. Earmuffs

An often overlooked headwear option, earmuffs are not just for little girls anymore. Earmuffs are the perfect winter option because they keep you warm without messing up that perfectly coiffed ‘do. Two of our favorite earmuff makers are Juicy Couture and UGG Australia. The Juicy ones (left) are cute and fluffy; perfect for the fashionista. The UGG earmuffs (right) are made of their signature shearling, giving them a sportier (and totally toasty) look.

4. A Hood or Hooded Scarf

Now here is something different! If you consider yourself fashion forward or like to stand out in the crowd, how about opting for a hood? They keep your whole head warm and manage to set you apart from the rest of your peers who are all wearing hats. This Eugenia Kim hood (left) is super chic and it’s thick yarn and giant ribbing are sure to keep frost-bite at bay!

Another option along these lines is a hooded scarf. Somewhat of a hat/scarf hybrid, hooded scarves are popping up everywhere! Urban Outfitters is carrying several styles this season, and depending on the style you choose you can totally change your look. The navy and grey rugby stripes give off a slightly masculine edge while the fluffy white loops are ultra-feminine!
