The College Girl’s Guide to Football Saturday

college football

"I shouldn't have eaten that 2nd hot dog..."

It’s College Game Day. Do you know what that means?

For most college guys out there, it means it’s the best day of the week and college football has arrived! It means tailgating, day drinking, cheerleaders, phenomenal food, and most importantly: field goals, sacks, tackles, and touchdowns.

There are a lot of girls who wake up on Game Day just as excited as the boys for the glory that is college football. These football girls know their team, their key players, their opponents, their weaknesses, and also, most likely, who the hottest players are.

Not one of these girls? Well, you can be. Football fanatic or not, here’s some tips every college girl should know to be prepared for game day. Read More »

College Myths Debunked: The Hidden Dangers of Ice Luging

Halloween Ice Luge 2

As college students, we are constantly inundated with new knowledge. It can be useful, thought-provoking, or crammed into our head on a Starbucks-fueled binge several hours before an exam. However, very rarely do we question the validity of all this new knowledge (unless you take philosophy classes, then you’ll question away).

That’s where College Candy comes in. We’re not going to debate whether or not the Theory of Relativity actually exists (a disappointment, I know, but I’m a communications major and stopped taking science classes after Baby Bio fresh year). However, we are here to thoroughly investigate the most widespread college knowledge (no, not rhyming): the myth. Last week we discussed breaking the seal and this week we’ll investigate the ice luge (the non-Olympic variety, of course).

While sliding down frozen mountainsides is somewhat adventurous, nothing compares to the college Ice Luge. 6 feet tall, carved into the shape of your school mascot, fraternity letters, or just a giant wedge, the ice luge will leave you liquored up and slightly frostbitten around your mouth and nose.

A  game day staple, ice luges can most commonly be found at tailgates or other large parties, typically attached to girls in various stages of drunkenness. Also known as vodka slides, these blocks of ice with carved channels for various types of alcohol are a college favorite, as many of my Facebook albums can attest to. Read More »

The CC Weekly Weigh In: Looking Back On Another Year

jello1

The end of the school year is here. Good for some (everyone who gets to come back next year), horribly scary for others (seniors), and bittersweet for all.

Before you tape up that last box and kiss your friends goodbye, though, take a moment to reflect on the year that was. We did, and we realized we have some great effing memories from the past 8 months. Some are big events (like the big 21st birthday) and others are just random nights on campus. But all of them make us laugh and smile and appreciate the amazingness that is college life.

So take a trip down memory lane with the CollegeCandy writers this week, then share your own favorite moments in the comments section below. Read More »

Break Out the Pom Pons – Football Season is Upon Us

texas footballWith football season off and running , I’m hoping everyone reading this is as excited as I am!

(Editor’s Note: Wooo! DE-FENCE! GO TEAM!!)

Call me a tomboy, but I love me some football. I personally blame my parents for being hardcore Packer fans, and the fact that I HAD to go to every football game in high school because I was on drumline. But I’ve come up with my favorite parts of football season that everyone – even if you aren’t a sports fan – can enjoy.

1. School Spirit: Who doesn’t have it in college? There’s just something about a stadium full of thousands upon thousands of people screaming chants along with the cheerleaders that get’s everyone’s blood pumping. Everyone on campus seems to be happier on game day, especially nearing a rivalry game. And since we’re on the subject of school spirit, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say HOOK ‘EM!!!! Read More »

Snacks for Sunday Football

wings.gifFootball season is getting underway, which can mean one of two things: you a) love football and will be glued to the T.V., butt planted on the couch, every Sunday from now until the Super bowl or b) you will have to deal with your friends and/or boyfriends football obsession and watch them be glued to the T.V. for the next few months.

While intense beer drinking goes on, football goers (that I’ve been around at least) tend to not do so great on the whole football food situation. So, I’ve compiled a list of ways to fill your tummy while you (and your boy) get your sports fix.

Nachos and Guacamole. I’m not talking plain chips and salsa here, people. Do the nachos right with lettuce, tomatoes, melted cheese, beef, chili, jalapenos, salsa, sour cream and whatever else you like throwing on there. While you’re add it, grab some avocados, onions, cilantro, tomatoes and salsa and make some homemade Guacamole!

Skewers. Instead of plain old burgers and dogs, take some cubed beef, chicken and even shrimp or scallops, marinade them in a Tupperware for a few hours and chop up some chunky veggies (peppers, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes). Then, once your meats and fish are saturated in the dressing of your choice (BBQ, Teriyaki and Italian Salad Dressing are my top 3 favs), take skewer sticks and alternate a piece of meat/fish with your choice of veggies. Throw them on the BBQ (if you’re tailgating, you can pre-make them and store in a Tupperware and throw on once you get to the parking lot) and enjoy! Read More »
