I hate Heidi. Everything about her from her fake face/boobs to her super shiny and bouncy blonde hair. Oh, and her giant teeth.
Yet even I, president of the I Hate Heidi and Fake Face/Boobs and Super Shiny and Bouncy Blonde Hair and Big Teeth club feel drawn to her this week. There is something about the sheer douchiness of Spencer that makes Heidi look, well, good.
Last night’s episode of The Hills made Heidi look like an actual responsible and semi-intelligent adult. For the first time in our long and tumultuous history, Heidi actually seemed to be taking her job seriously.
No more “I wanna get paid for doing nothing.” The Future Mrs. Pratt is actually putting her personal life on hold for the sake of her serious new position. And I can’t help but respect that. I also can’t help but notice that she is working longer hours than me. And that makes me feel like less of a person.
What happened to old Heidi? You know, skip out on work to get lunch Heidi. Or drop out of fashion school after one day Heidi. I know one person who misses her: Whiny, Bitchy Spencer. (Sidenote: I kinda miss her too. She is so much more fun when you can really hate her.) Read More »

Getting fashion inspiration from TV and movies is nothing new. I can remember riding my bike around my neighborhood during the summer after fourth grade, dressed just like the girls from Now and Then singing “Knock Three Times.”
Of course, there wasn’t a boy who looked like Devon Sawa and no mystery to solve, but if there had been… well, I totally looked the part.
Emulating a star’s style is easier than ever and with Starbrand and the CW Style Shop, all your favorite TV looks are only a click away. And what better time to try out someone else’s look than in college, when you haven’t quite figured out who the hell you are?
With these online TV looks categorized by brand, episode and character, your favorite pieces are easy to find. And best of all, no arduous searching through website after website looking for a really awesome pair of jeans. All the denim in these shops is to the minute.
They have also made it easy to shop for cute basics and affordable outerwear. It’s like having a whole rack of awesome clothes pulled from every different virtual store.
They’ve already done all the work, and for a lazy college girl, these websites are ideal. Work is a word we tend to avoid at all costs. I mean who hasn’t worn their pj’s to class at least once?

MTV has gone above and beyond lame by giving Lauren Conrad her own fashion line—and making it expensive as hell.
The annoying blond from The Hills (doesn’t narrow it down at all, does it?) has been an intern at Teen Vogue for a while, and I guess after two years of licking envelopes and putting dresses back on hangers, MTV decided she had enough training to put out her own line of boring, expensive crap.
Looking like stuff you could pick up at Forever 21 or H&M for $20, Conrad’s designs (named after herself. How imaginative) range from an $85 to $150 dollars, totally slamming the door on any of her teenage fans who don’t have their parents credit card handy.
After clicking through the small array of rayon shirts and dresses (and a headscarf that costs $25.00), I can’t decide which pisses me off more; the fact that MTV has become so obsessed with money that it no longer applies to normal people, or the fact that girls will actually buy expensive stuff designed by a chick who has no official training whatsoever.
All I’m saying is, if I’m going to buy something that’s almost 90% rayon, I’ll push past the 10-year-olds to the Wet Seal at my neighborhood mall.

It finally happened.
After months of waiting – and an amazingly saucy lesbian version of Engaged and Underage – season three of The Hills finally premiered. I had no doubts that the show was going to be top notch, but after watching such a ridiculous ep of Engaged and Underage (full of lesbian fights, make out scenes and a whole lotta white dresses), I really didn’t know if my show could live up to all of my original expectations.
Well, my friends, did it ever!
Let the recap begin! And there is no better place to star than at the beginning.
Like with Whitney (shockingly!!!) getting a full time job at Teen Vogue. Oh, and LC returning for her third consecutive year as an intern…because everyone gets a three year internship! I mean, one semester isn’t standard or anything. All huge fashion mags invite their not-famous-at-all interns back for a few more years. Read More »

Rumor has it that Teen Vogue is the next to get the axe.
I love gossip. And I love rumors. But this is just slightly ludicrous. I know this because I have been in the belly of the Anna Wintour bred beast. And it was scary. But Teen Vogue is not going anywhere.
If I know anything, I know that.
First of all, Teen Vogue isn’t like Jane. Yes, the folding of Jane was a surprise to her beloved readers. But still, TVogue (as the insiders refer to it) doesn’t have the problems that Jane had. You know, little things like EIC’s who get booted from the magazine named after them. Small stuff like that was just the beginning of Jane’s demise. So really, it wasn’t a surprise.
While Teen Vogue targets a niche market (kind of like Jane), it is gearing its content to the upper crust teenie boppers of American society who have much more money than the angry liberal feminist types that scoured the pages of Jane.
And let’s be honest, it’s still Vogue and that means more than anything to the higher ups at Condé. Like the names of the über important teenagers they feature on the pages of the mag, the Vogue name carries a lot of weight…unlike the people who work there. Read More »

As any child of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s knows, these days, MTV is a virtual wasteland. A repetitious, celebrity obsessed, materialistic channel that now seems to hire VJ’s based on their height and weight rather than their music expertise. My Super Sweet Sixteen makes any girl who had less than 1500 people and 17 white ponies at her birthday feel like she was cheated, and if you happen to be out of high school, there’s almost nothing—with the exception of True Life—that deals with your issues.
And I don’t have to even get into the music video problem. Or the fact that the channel’s completely lost its bite. The argument is old. Everyone knows MTV has sold out to big business and bling.
The show that highlights everything wrong with what was once our beloved edgy escape? The Hills.
This show is trash. Pure garbage. White 20-somethings bitching and whining that their deep pockets aren’t deep enough and their amazing jobs aren’t amazing enough. Bleach blond, breast-implanted bimbos who aren’t doing a thing to make this world a better place. Interning at Teen Vogue and working the door at some Hollywood club? This is supposed to drama? This is supposed to interesting? This is supposed to be camera worthy? Read More »

I fully agree with some of the gripes that Leah has with Teen Vogue (seriously, the duration of their internships is growing painful). However, while browsing the site recently, I came upon a program Teen Vogue sponsers that seems like it may be worthwhile.
Teen Vogue Fashion University takes place throughout the weekend of October 26-28 in a variety of venues in NYC. The event is designed for girls ages 18-22 who are looking to become involved in some aspect of the fashion industry.
The list of guest speakers is impressive, ranging from designers Vera Wang and Phillip Lim to Tim Gunn (from Project Runway) to fashion and beauty photographer Kevin O’Brien. For $150, “students” will get to choose which seminars they would like to attend, recieve a tour of the Teen Vogue offices, attend a concert by up-and-coming band Locksley and network with some major names in the fashion world. I used to think Teen Vogue was the best shit on the stands. All that high-class style and gossip for two bucks a pop? I signed up for a five – year subscription. I found the haughty content amusingly hilarious and would crave my monthly society updates on things like Bunny Von Hartzelcarter – Markstein’s cotillion and the eating habits and bedroom – decorating abilities of obscure young porcelain actresses.
Unlike its mother, the almighty Vogue, Teen Vogue featured fashions that were young, cool and almost affordable. A girl can dream, and I’d rather dream about a $300 Philip Lim denim trapeze dress than a $4000 quilted leather jacket by Alexander McQueen.
But this month’s issue is a little ridiculous. Plaguing the cover are the perpetual interns, LC of the OC and her sidekick, Whitey. I mean Whitney. It’s Whitney! Seriously, though, when are their internships going to end? Read More »

OMG. I know I am a little slow on the uptake, but due to a giganto exam I had to spend Monday night in the library instead of on my couch with Lauren, Heidi and Whitney. Thankfully, my good friend TiVO was there in my time of need and I finally got to watch the drama unfold on this week’s episode of The Hills.
And it was AMAZING – especially without having to sit through MTV’s 3.5 minute commercial breaks.
Let me just begin with the biggest and most awesome part of the whole show: Whitney’s modeling experience. I bet you think I am going to talk about her plummet down the stairs, but you are wrong. Mostly because I tend to fall all the time, so I really feel for the girl. No, the part that really made me weak in the knees/warm all over was the part where Ms. Intern-NYC looked all pissy when she wasn’t the hottest girl on the stage (which, mind you, is not hard considering how weird looking she is). It is not like I hate the girl, I just think she should be working as a school librarian/planting flowers instead of working for Teen Vogue. Read More »
