We’re halfway (kind of) through winter, which means that we’re closer to spring, closer to summer, and thus totally consumed with job and internship stress. If you’re anything like me, the prospect of sitting across from a scary Human Resources employee while interviewing for your dream job seems almost as bad as not getting Spring Break this year. What if your resume has a typo? What if you forget your cover or letter or your hangover manifests itself during the Q and A period? And, the worst possibility of all, what if you aren’t dressed right??

I have heard my fair share of interview outfit horror stories. A friend of a friend was stopped in the middle of describing her extracurricular activities and told that, in the future, she should try and wear a more “modest” top. My brother wore blue corduroys to an interview unaware of the fact that the company had a shirt and tie dress code. I am a horror movie buff. I love them. It’s stupid, because sometimes I see one that actually freaks me out and then I can’t sleep without staring around the dark room wondering if I’m going to hear weird noises or see something standing in the corner. But hey, whatever. Some people like roller coasters, I like my scary movies. So, in the spirit of the season, I present the top five scary movies, in no particular order:

5. Halloween–Okay, the first two originals are great, mostly because they are a continuation of each other, but the first film in the series definitely trumps the second. Also, the remake from last year by Rob Zombie was phenomenal. He delved into the psyche of knife-wielding Michael Myers a good bit and made the story much more three-dimensional.

At the same time, John Carpenter was a genius. His direction of the first film was what made it such a great jump-inducing movie. He doesn’t build up to his scary moments with music, so if you haven’t seen the movie, you won’t know when some of those “gasp” moments are coming–and it makes it sooo awesome.

4. House on Haunted Hill–I include this one because even though you might not find the original all that scary, it still has Vincent Price in one fantastic role. The plot is good and there are some cheesy scares, but if you’re not that into truly terrifying movies, this is a good one. House on Haunted Hill is also a good girls’ night movie: you can get  your thrills without feeling too scared to drive home at three o’clock in the morning when the popcorn and pizza has run out. Next to Welcome Week, NY Fashion Week is our favorite week of the year. We may actually like it more, but only because we can remember what happened/don’t feel like total hell at the end of it.What could be better than watching our favorite designers send their newest duds down the runway? And what better way to spend our days than by taking all those delectable looks and figuring out ways to make them our own?

Ooo wee! We get so excited just thinking about it.

This year’s fashion week did not dissapoint. Everyone from Nanette Lepore to The Gap pulled out all the stops and sent some brilliant looks through the tents at Bryant Park. We sifted through every last collection (yes, our lives are sad and horribly difficult) to bring you our favorites of Fashion Week 2008. Sure, actually being at the shows next to Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe would have been glamorous and awesome, but we got to do this in our PJs.

Which is how we roll.

It’s that time of year again: the first day of school. Students all over the world are preparing for the opportunities that lie ahead. There is so much to learn and so much to see. It is no wonder so many students look forward to this day.

With the first day of classes so near, I began thinking about the way things were in high school around this time.

I remember the big trip to Office Max with my mom every year; we’d hop in her SUV and drive on down to the store, where I would leap from the vehicle while it was still in motion, and run up and down the aisles (Supermarket Sweep style) seeking out the newest pens and folder colors.

I would then return home with my new purchases and proceed to label every folder for every class, color code my notebooks and binders, and put it all in my brand new Eddie Bauer bag for the first day of school.

And I know I’m not alone.

Even more exciting (if possible) than my school supply spree was my first day of school shopping extravaganza. There was nothing more important in life than what you wore on the first day of school; it set the tone for the year and let people know what kind of person you were. Read More »

Let’s be honest here: The Gap hasn’t been lookin’ too good these past few years. Their clothes have been getting a tad dowdy and besides the occasional cute dress or super comfy PJs, their stuff is overhyped and over-priced.

Growing up, I was Gap’s biggest fan; my first-day-of-school outfit was always a collection of Gap pieces and, I am embarrassed to admit this, the manager at my neighborhood location would call me when new shipments arrived. We broke up sometime in college when I realized that their jeans really weren’t so flattering, after all, and their tops made me look like a box.

I like to think, then, that it was losing me as a customer that forced them to kick things into high gear and start making some major changes. Like their designs for Bono’s philanthropic program, Product Red. Or their Design Edition white shirt collection.

This innovative line launched last year and received tremendous praise…especially from me (and that’s all that matters, isn’t it?) The purpose of the line is to reinvent an American fashion staple: the crisp white button down. This versatile piece is a must-have in everyone’s closet (even Oprah says so) and has been essential to fashion – both casual and couture – for-e-ver. Read More »

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got some big ta-ta’s, and frankly, they can get annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I love having a nice set of breasts, but as the saying goes—the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Would I trade them for a different pair? Maybe, but not necessarily due to their size. I’ve fluctuated in weight quite a bit since entering college – the freshman +15, the work – your -ass – off – to – lose – it – 20, the I – look – good – again – so – I – can – be – lazy +10, and finally the what – the – hell – was – I – thinking -10; putting me at a comfortable and satisfying weight. (Although I’m sure I could use to lose another 5—how typical and hypocritical of me.)

My point is that with all this weight loss and gain my breasts have taken a beating, and neither I nor “the girls” are happy about it.

For being as large as they are (34D—nothing too crazy, but definitely not small) they’ve always been, shall I say perky? My girlfriends were somewhat amazed, especially since in high school I was always that girl who never wore a bra if there wasn’t a dire need for one. (Oh my goodness, what a hooch! Whatever.)
