Who doesn’t love a good college party? In fact many argue the best partying of one’s life occurs during their college years. Now with the holiday season fully in gear, parties just got a whole lot more exciting due to the the mandatory Christmas themes applied to your average Saturday night now through New Years. Even if you just want to get a drink with a friend and judge some drunk people, unless you’re wearing a Santa hat you’re not welcome. Instead of resenting these holidays themes, dare to embrace and attend soirees that tell you to dress like a pimp or a ho, ho, ho!
Just kidding, don’t go to that party. That sounds like a lazy, degrading pun. But if someone invites you to one, or all, of these eight parties: then I suggest you spike some egg nog and go! Read More »

It’s safe to say that costume and theme parties are one of the biggest parts of college life. After all, college is one of the few times in life where you can get away with dressing in crazy costumes, and convincing your friends to do the same, on a regular basis. I mean, how often do your parents talk about going to an ABC party?
If you think you’re had/been to every kind of themed costume party there is, think again. Click here to see the list of the top ten best college dress-up party themes.

There are always those girls who will use any excuse to get a little skanky, and college parties are generally their go to moment. Halloween is the one night a year Theme parties are the few nights a month when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it…Well, only a few snarky comments anyway.
Of course, in real life librarians don’t leave all but one of their cardigan buttons undone, businesswomen don’t rock spandex, and schoolgirls really aren’t that trashy. But hey, we’ll chalk these outfits up to sexual desperation, er, creativity.

[This post and contest come hot off the Internet presses from our friends at CollegeFashion!]
Every college girl knows that theme parties can be some of the most fun events to attend during your four years. And while the parties themselves are great, the act of dressing up and creating a costume can often be the highlight of the night.
We all know the importance of building a wardrobe full of basics for mixing and matching, but in college, creating a “dress up drawer” with a few key pieces for costume parties can prove just as useful. The best part? You probably already have some of these theme party “essentials” in your closet.

I’ve never been a big fan of theme parties. Just like perfectly matched outfits, to me they seem contrived, cliché, outdated. But college freshmen (and many of my CollegeCandy peers) seem to love the experience of a costume party. I too have to give props to the really creative ideas that people have come up with (although I can’t seem to recall any at the time; that’s how rare they are), but for the most part, the only theme parties that exist and thrive in college are characterized by sexism. I mean, CEOs and corporate hoes? Is there anyone that sees that and thinks, “hey, girls can dress up as CEOs too!”
Even when it’s not implicitly stated (and it usually is, on the Facebook invite: “girls who don’t dress sexy aren’t allowed in”), why do guys get to slap on a button-down and be the cool, prestigious things – CEOs, rock stars, golf pros – while girls just have to dress like “hoes”?
With Halloween looming, this is an incredibly relevant issue. In the immortal words of Cady Heron: “Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” It’s true. Halloween seems to be the one night when the cattiness and judgments that surround one girl’s wardrobe choice seem to fall away, and girls take full advantage of this. For most girls, finding a sexy costume takes priority over creating a clever one; to say that most girls don’t aspire to be praised for their minds on Halloween night is to put it mildly.

I’ve done it all. I’ve been to clubs, bars, frat parties, porches…you name it, I’ve been drunk there. And my favorite of all party scenes? The infamous house party. Maybe it has something to do with being a freshman last year, or maybe because I befriended these guys who threw major parties that were the talk of campus come Monday? I’m not sure, but in my opinion nothing quite beats a house party and its laid-back atmosphere.
And as a seasoned house partier, here are some tips to help you survive the first big house party of the year:
Do show up fashionably late. Nothing in the college party scene starts before 10:30pm. And nothing says freshman more than showing up at the party at 9pm eager for the festivities to start. You are not in high school anymore! So please, if you want to look like you know what’s going on, pre-drink in your room don’t show up until after 11pm. Trust me, you won’t miss a thing. In fact, you’ll get there just as the party gets pumpin’.
Don’t wear heels! If you’re going to a house party, you will be way overdressed. House parties attract all types of people and there will most likely be hundreds of them there. Large amounts of grinding people means hot temperatures. You will be sweating…profusely! So for those back-to-school bashes, leave your new skinny jeans at home and wear shorts, a cute flowy tank top or even a sundress, and sandals. You’ll thank me later, when the floor is filled with mud (or questionable bodily fluids) and your favorite suede pumps are ruined!
Do get your creative juices flowing. Theme parties are super popular in college. Whether you’re attending a Toga party, ABC party, the Beer Olympics (the list goes on and on…), get creative with your costume. I’ll guarantee you’ll be the talk of the night (and for the right reasons). That’s not such a bad thing, eh? Read More »

Costumes make everything better.
Every week you can count on a couple things: Drama on the Real Housewives, Mondays being a painful necessity of life and of course, the Weekly Ten.
Everyone gets stuck in the same routine on the weekends. Drink, drank, drunk. From frat parties to the bar, the whole thing can get a little tiresome. Here’s the bottom line: Parties are great. Parties with a theme? Even better. Here are the top ten party themes to throw or participate in.
10. Jungle
Any excuse to get some use out of those zebra pumps and leopard push up bra. Oh and to make some deathly jungle juice to feed the zoo of drunken college animals.
9. ABC (anything but clothes)
From duct tape to bubble wrap, this one is a sure winner and a great way to get creative with all those US Weekly mags that are piling up on your coffee table.
8. Stoplight
Simple and gets to the point that everyone wants to know: wear red for taken (or boring), yellow for “confused” or “it’s complicated” (really?), and green for good to go. Read More »

So you’re stuck on campus for Spring Break, watching people flee to warmer climates or their parents’ house. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to be bored. There are plenty things to do on campus that are fun and don’t break the bank.
Have a beach party – just because you’re not at the beach doesn’t mean you can’t pretend you are. Break out the bikinis and shorts, blend up some margaritas and blast the songs that remind you of summer. Invite others that stuck on campus. You might even find a cute boy you can ‘lei’.
Theme parties – Still not in shape to don your bikini? What about another type of theme party? Have a moustache party (no you don’t have to grow one, just squiggle a nice one on your finger and hold it up to your face). Or you could try out our makeup tips for a decade party. Or how about a party from one of those fabulous places you didn’t get to travel this break. Fiesta anyone? Read More »

It’s amazing how universal the college experience is and how readily we all accept it as normal. Talk to any college student on any college campus in the country and you will easily find common ground: in the drinking games, in the fake ID horror stories, in the theme parties, in the hook ups.
It is only when an outsider (Read: An Old Person) looks in and comments on the college scene that we take a second look and realize that our choices really aren’t that…acceptable.
My friend recently sent me this article, in which some old dude jumps into the college scene and reports what he finds. And what was it? Just your typical weekend at any college campus: parties, makeouts, puking, etc. Only, when he talks about it it sounds a lot different than when we share our stories in a typical Saturday morning recap.
