If it’s one thing we’ve learned here at CC, it’s that all people are fascinating (Yes, even your econ professor). Let’s face it – people love to glimpse into the lives of other people. Disagree? Then please explain why you’re currently looking at your friend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s photos on Facebook. Or reading about the latest Rihanna dramz in this weeks’ tabloids.

Yeah we thought so.

Fact is we connect to others by learning about them. And everyone has something to share (even if it is a story about that time their pants split in the middle of class).

So to give you yet another reason to procrastinate, we started ‘The Five Questions We Ask Everyone’ (plus five for that special someone) because we know whether we’re schmoozing with an A- list celeb or your local bartender, you’ll be equally entertained.

You may remember Adrienne Bailon from her days belting it out for 3LW. Or, for you younger ladies, her time spent in the Cheetah Girls. For the rest of us, Adrienne is a sporadic (via cell phone) guest on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, as she is Rob Kardashian’s one and only. (I know; that show is so. good.)

Well, that is all grand, but Adrienne’s got a new project in the works and it’s a biggie: she’s hosting MTV’s New Afternoons, a giant afternoon block of shows to keep you entertained between class and… primetime TV. You know, those few hours when you are too tired to work and too lazy to get up and order dinner…

Adrienne is really excited about the new gig and we’re super excited to get to talk to her. Get to know this lovely lady, then get in front of the TV and watch her. What else do you have to do?

5 Questions We Ask Everyone

1. What is the most hysterical or ridiculous college memory that you have?

I have never been to college, but my sister’s fiancé just graduated from Duke Law this year. I went and took a tour of the school, and I remember being on campus dressed from head to toe in Duke gear. I had on a Duke jacket, hat, and pin. I went to the store where you can buy everything and I totally OD’d and walked around campus like a Duke Christmas tree. It was always my dream to go to college and maybe is something that I will do in the future, but I just think the whole idea of college campus life seems like so much fun.

2. What are the five things that you can’t live without?

My phone, my laptop, my mom, chapstick, and an eyelash curler. I also love perfume; I even carry it in my purse.

3. What is your motto or advice that you live by?

The motto or advice that I live by is that nothing is impossible. I think that if you really set your heart into something and you really believe in yourself you can make anything happen.

4. What is your favorite song to belt out?

“Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. It’s the one song that puts me in a good mood after I hear it.

5. In ten years from now, where do you think you will be?

Hopefully in ten years I can be like Gloria Estefan and have both English and Spanish albums, as well as a family. I admire Gloria Estefan because she is a family woman but at the same time has a career.

5 Questions Just For Adrienne

1. What is it like growing up in the spotlight?

I feel like I had a really normal childhood and didn’t grow up in the spotlight. I started doing 3LW when I was 16 and didn’t even start doing the Cheetah Girls until I was 19. I appreciate the fact that I had a normal childhood, and by 16 I knew what was going on and I didn’t get jaded by the industry. It was a lot better for me that I started later on in life, and I love that.

2. Tell us about your new gig hosting New Afternoons?

I am thrilled about being the new host of New Afternoons on MTV. I get to work in Times Square at the MTV Studios where TRL was (!), and it has been so much fun. It’s a really cool show. We get to host the entire afternoon where they play three shows, which are Parental Control, Room Raiders and Sex… With Mom and Dad. We also have celebrities that stop by and hang out with us, watch the shows and promote their upcoming projects.

3. Do you like the show Sex… With Mom and Dad?

It’s my favorite! I think what I love so much about it is that it’s so taboo. It’s something that I feel a lot of kids had wanted to do but have never gotten the opportunity to be open with their parents about their experiences. I’m also a huge fan of Dr. Drew. I think it’s an educational show and is also really entertaining.

4. Do you think that you will ever return to music?

Definitely! It is still my dream.

10. What advice do you have for girls who want to break into the entertainment business?

Believe in yourself. I think that if you believe in yourself, no one can stop you. Confidence is also important. Be a hard worker, and practice makes perfect. The sky’s the limit.

You’ve already got a semester of partying under your belt by the time New Years Eve rolls around. How are you going to throw the bash that everyone’s still talking about in 2010? Here are some ways to make the 2008 send-off the most memorable.

If you can travel…

Hey, if you’ve got the funds, lucky you. Hit up another country and see how they do New Years. You don’t regret it. If you’re still underage, Canadian cities can be quite the hotspot (take it from someone who spent her last <21 New Years in Montreal, after a 10-hour road strip). If you’re loaded despite being in college during the recession, head on over to Europe. Hate the cold? Sing Auld Lang Syne in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic.

Okay, those are nice ideas in a fantasy world… but let’s move onto options for those of us who can’t cough up the money for airfare.

If you want to travel but can’t afford it…

Throw a Chinese New Year’s party. Okay, so technically the CNY kicks off February 1, but who cares? Cater your party with Egg Rolls and Fortune Cookies (way cheaper than many food options), decorate with paper dragons, and serve Sake till the last Geisha’s standing.

Create Your Own Times Square. NYC is pretty much insane on New Year’s anyway. Hang a disco ball from the ceiling and buy skyscraper cut-outs for the walls. Have everyone dress up (because in college, the land of hoodies and sweatshirts, you can never have too many fancy-dress parties), and broadcast the Manhattan festivities on your TV in the background. It’ll be warmer than Times Square, and you probably won’t have any bums hitting you up for spare change on the way home.

Throw a Hotel Party…in the Next Town Over. Grab a room at the Best Western or the HoJo, and pretend you’re at the Ritz Carlton. Nobody will have to drive, you won’t have to clean up, and maybe you can work it so you share a queen bed with your crush.

If you really don’t care about traveling, and just want to have a good time:

Throw a “My Tie” party. If you can make a large quantity of Mai Tais in a punch bowl, more power to you. But encourage everyone to dress business-casual, and when the men arrive, have them remove their ties and throw them in a basket. The ladies then choose a tie, and the man who belongs to that piece of neckwear is her date for the night. Takes the pressure off of finding a kiss at Midnight.

New Year’s Resolutions parties can also be fun, because we all have them, and none of us stick to them. Wear a necklace made of empty Marlboro boxes if you plan to quit smoking, or wear some hot spandex if you vow to go to the gym more regularly. Things can get pretty effing creative here. Not into costumes? Have everyone throw their resolution into a hat, and try to guess who is giving up what this year.

Have a Blind Date. They say the way you ring in the new year is a prediction of how the next 365 days will unfold. Plan a girl’s night and go Speed Dating as a group, or see if any bachelors have posted on CrazyBlindDate.com. The key is to get your friends involved, so that at the very least, you can have a laugh. New Year’s Eve is all about letting loose isn’t it?

If you really don’t care about getting smashed…

Check out your city’s First Night. There’s bound to be fireworks, free live music, and tons of street vendors. Many cities across the US host First Night celebrations, and they are quite lucrative.

Host a Best-Of 2008 Movie Marathon. Curl up with some take-out and a stash of DVDs – just be sure to press pause for the Ball Drop at midnight!

Make Some Money. I’ve had my share of insane NYE celebrations. So last year, I opted to wait tables, since every weekend for me is as crazy as the novice’s New Year. The tips were good, and I was still out by midnight. And I made up for missing the big party by having several “No Reason” celebrations. Scour Craigslist and you’ll see tons of opportunities to work at private parties on the 31st. You never know what kind of adventure will actually unravel.

Well now those high school boys have grown up into fine college men, but they still wanna see a little Cops action. And they can…sorta. MTV’s BUSTED takes the “COPS” formula to major college campuses across the country and busts dumb college kids doing dumb college things. You know you love the bad boys.

On Saturday, October 24th “BUSTED Live: Countdown To Lockdown” heads into the MTV studios to countdown 20 brand new infractions, including knuckleheaded misconduct from skinny-dipping to underage drinking, and backyard wrestling to marijuana possession.

Hosts Damien Fahey and Skyler Stone will countdown to the single-most shocking & never before seen offenses and CollegeCandy will be at MTV studios in Times Square to cover the whole thing. (And hopefully meet some cute boys in the process.)

Check back to CC on Monday for a full recap of the event as we saw it go down. Hopefully you won’t be seeing us on Busted any time soon…

For one, I realized that Daniel (dude with black hair who is really not so memorable as he keeps sneakin’ by at the runway) totally wanted to do Wesley (boring dude who got sent home last week). I also came to the conclusion that Blayne’s lack of tanning is actually having an effect on him and his sanity…and he is really started to freak me out.

Oh, and I …

While watching Project Runway last night, I realized a few things.

Oh, and I realized that this season of Project Runway is really sort of sucky.

The designers all suck. Most of them are horribly boring (hem hem, Jennifer) and the rest just annoy me. It is sad that the only ones that stand out to me are Suede (who talks in the third person), Blayne (who is neon orange) and Stella (who kills cows and uses their flesh for pants and vests). I used to LOVE the designers on the show and had a clear favorite every season.

This season? Well, I guess I sorta still love Tim Gunn.

Last night’s challenge was to get inspiration from NYC at night, which was just another creative way to incorporate product placement (cool cameras!) into the show. And how perfect was it that Blayne – lover of all things neon (including his skintone) – got dropped off in Times Square? Or that Stella managed to find the one piece of leather in the entire city, so she could take her inspiration from it?

The point of the challenge was to be inspired by NYC…not be inspired by your style during a photo hunt in NYC. (Strike 1,000 against this season’s designers. )

So, the designers take their pictures and return to the work room to make it work. Tim stops by to give a little insight, which, as usual, no one takes. Why, people? Why not listen to the Gunn-Man? He knows what he is talking about! He always does! Anyways, while Tim is in the room Crazy Blayne decides to get all ghetto on his ass (which looks so wrong) and teaches Tim some slang: “Holla at cha boy!” he says (as he waves his arms in the air). Tim makes him repeat it, explain it and repeat it again.

“Holler at your boy!” Tim calls, on his way out.

Tupac and Biggie rolled over in their graves.

It is eventually time for the runway and who could this week’s guest judge be? Which Hollywood fashionista did they get this time? Ooooh, maybe it’s a real famous designer like Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney. Or maybe it’s Anna Wintour!

Nope, sillies! It’s Sandra Bernhard, DUH. I mean, she is a comedian/actress who has a one woman show touring in the Fall. She is PERFECT. I am sure she knows a ton about fashion, which you can tell by her hair and boxy pant suit she chose for the occasion!

And she did a fantastic time judging. She didn’t mess this one up at all. Kenley’s dress won and it totally should have; it was fun, flirty and would look killer with a pair of 80’s High Top Reeboks.

But the losing designer? Well, these are the notes I took during the show:

God I hope Jennifer loses. She should be designing for my grandma….

WHAT?! NO FU*&ING WAY. OMG. IS THIS FOR REAL? ARE THEY TRYING TO ATTRACT OLD LADIES TO THIS SHOW? WTF? I ACTUALLY LIKED THIS GIRL. WHAT THE HELL? FINE, KEEP THE SNOOZE FEST. KEEP THE LIBRARIAN! THIS SHOW TOTALLY SUCKS THIS SEASON. I HATE YOU PEOPLE.

Yeah, so I wasn’t quite happy with how the show turned out. I would totally boycott if I had something better to do on Wednesday nights.

Ugh. I hope it gets better.

Being a broke college student, I have a very tight budget when it comes to personal luxuries, but I still want to enjoy what the city has to offer, from exotic dining to cultural sites.

As far as eating out goes, I’ll have to tighten my belt a little; I’ve already eaten in a few great places, but I’m keeping my eye on cheap places. Here are a few tips I’ve learned so far about living affordably in ANY city for the summer:

• Always look for a student rate at museums. The Met and other major museums will always have student rates, so bring your college ID; you’ll be able to enjoy a taste of culture at about half price.

• Cook for yourself. It’s great to try new places to eat, but you can’t eat out every day. Restaurants will be a serious blow to your finances, so if you have access to a kitchen, use it! Find your closest grocery store and stock up on easy-to-prepare foods like pasta. Liven up your meals by getting a recipe book and stocking up on fresh vegetables. A friend of mine and I made a fabulous meal just by throwing a few vegetables in a saucepan with garlic and olive oil and putting the concoction on top of some pasta. Magnifique, and it made enough to last us for multiple meals.

• Avoid tourist spots. Sure, Times Square is exciting, but if you’re living in the city for the summer, this is your opportunity to explore the lesser-known spots. If you’re in New York, try exploring Chinatown, the village, or SoHo; everything is more affordable, and you’ll feel great for discovering something a little off the beaten track.

• Get a Netflix account. If you’ve ever tried seeing a movie in Times Square, you’ve probably experienced the coronary-inducing price of movie tickets there. Movie tickets are another big drain on finances for college students, so if you have a permanent mailing address, consider getting a very affordable Netflix account to enjoy your movies. For $8 a month, you can see unlimited movies; compare that to a $12 Times Square movie ticket for just one flick.

Anyone who has ever been to New York City has most likely encountered Times Square’s Naked Cowboy. I never really understood the appeal of A) Times Square and its massive carbon footprint, or B) the appeal of a guitar-strumming man in his tightie whities (unless, of course, that man is John Mayer..mmmmm), but for some reason this dude is totally famous.

In Times Square, at least.

Well, now he’s taking his show on the road: to the New York City court system. As if being a naked cowboy wasn’t obnoxious enough, this dude is now suing the makers of M&M’s for stealing his “bit” in their latest ads in NYC.

His “bit” being taking off his clothes and playing the guitar for small children? Um…how is that not the issue here?!

But, poor guy has to hold onto something. I mean, this is all he has. Especially since his self confidence was totally shot when some 7th grade girls saw his…talent… and laughed in his face.

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about a man in uniform that piques my interest. They’re so neat and poised (even if it’s because of extremely intense training… and boot camp), so strong and capable, so… hot. Even if a guy’s a six, you throw him in a uniform and he’s bumped up at least to a seven, instantly. And seven’s can be negotiable, justifiable even.

Happy Fleet Week, New Yorkers!

(For other rating boosters, see: accents and business suits. Same effect.)

For those who haven’t seen the Sex and the City episode, or been to New York, Fleet Week is an eagerly anticipated time of year for single(ish?) young women who love a man in uniform… a Navy uniform, that is. From May 21 through Wednesday, May 28, the city is taken over by sailors. Ahoy, matee!

I have yet to experience my own sailor encounter, but I have friends from the city with great stories of high school days spent chasing (and being chased by) military men in their twenties. One friend even took a sailor to her senior prom. The closest I’ve ever come to these stories doesn’t even touch Fleet Week. I dated someone in ROTC during college, and it didn’t even last long enough for me ever to take advantage of the uniform. Sigh…

Last year, I was new to New York and didn’t really know where to find these sailors everyone kept talking about. Sure, I’d see a couple on my way through midtown, but otherwise I was at a loss. Come on, thousands of sailors were pouring into the city and I couldn’t find any? What was I doing wrong?

Well, I forgot that they’re tourists. Obviously, that’s why I never saw them. Fleet Week is like a vacation of sorts for sailors, hence why I forgot, as New York residents tend to do. They’re trouncing through Times Square and the like, which is why I missed them entirely. Perhaps this year I’ll do better scouting them out. Since they’re on leave, surely they’d be up for some fun in the city before going back to sea

So tell us, ladies, do you have any Fleet Week stories we can live vicariously through? Let us know!

The weird magician, who just recently escaped from a concrete block suspended in the middle of Times Square (no, I didn’t go watch it. Then Diaz packed up and went on the Shrek tour, and Angel became freakily attached.

“I’d like to dedicate this to my girl Trouble, a.k.a Cameron.” Angel shouted as soon as he escaped his concrete publicity stunt last Monday, “I love you, baby.”

Huh? What? Love?!

When pressed to specify further, Angel backtracked with the old, “she’s an amazing person” statement and refused to give any more details.

Either this guy is using Diaz for publicity, or likes to fall in love after a weekend. Any way the cookie crumbles, I think the girl should run. A relationship with an obsessive, desperate guy who has found a way to walk on water is guaranteed to end very, very badly.
