  • College Q&A: Should I Dorm With My Sister?

College Q&A: Should I Dorm With My Sister?

My half-sister and I (by dad) are going to the same college. My dad wants us to share a room so he can buy one TV and one fridge. Cheap. Anyways I was just wondering if I am wrong for speaking up for myself about not wanting to live in a dorm my first year of college with my sister?! I mean, come on now; first of all she annoys me, second she’s messy, and third she annoys me.

College Q&A: Preparing for Freshman Year

Question: I’m a high school senior and I’m starting college next fall. I’m really excited, but also really scared. Is there anything I can or should do now before I go? Maybe a few tips or things I can start on now (to prepare and also to pass the time of my boring senior year)?

5 Reasons To Dump Your High School Boyfriend

Upon graduation, my high school sweetheart and I left for different universities in the same city, vowing to stay together, no matter what. "No high school couple lasts beyond their first semester freshman year," someone told me, to which I replied with a scoff and an eye-roll.

  • My Freshman Year: Learning To Beat The Clock

My Freshman Year: Learning To Beat The Clock

Over the past three months, I’ve found myself falling victim to a peril of college life that most don’t consider an issue until it hits them. It’s that feeling of uncontrollable anxiety when you realize you have three papers, several long reading assignments, classes, TA sessions, club meetings, play rehearsals, study sessions, and exams (breathe) all happening in a very, very short time span.

  • College: There’s a First Time for Everything

College: There’s a First Time for Everything

Freshman year of college, from what I’ve learned so far, is a series of firsts. Some of them are great – first 11:00 a.m. class (yay sleep!), first weekend away at school – while others simply aren’t – like your first midterm exam. But regardless of whether or not these firsts are awesome in themselves, just experiencing them is exhilarating.

  • Livin’ The Single (Room) Life

    Livin’ The Single (Room) Life

So, you’re in a single. Obviously, single rooms aren’t the image most conjure when thinking about college dorms and most freshmen don’t usually get them. Nervous? Excited? Don’t really know what you’re getting into? Don’t worry; here are the PROS AND CONS OF LIVING IN A SINGLE

College Myths Debunked: The Freshman 15? Not So Much

Ah, the Freshman 15. This popular legend has spawned books on prevention, magazine articles in every Back-to-School issue of any teen magazine, and whispered reminders to your BFF as she’s eyeing that 3rd helping of French toast in the dining hall.

    Overheard: Freshmeat

(Girls, introducing themselves in class.) Girl 1: I'm Brenna. Girl 2: Hi! I'm Margaret, but you can call me Murphy. Girl 1: Huh. How'd you get that nickname? Girl 2: When I was born, my dad said it was Murphy's Law.

  • Duke It Out: The First-Semester Boyfriend

Duke It Out: The First-Semester Boyfriend

There's all kinds of advice out there about your freshman year, but more than what classes to take or how I should bring my own Solo cup to parties, the the biggest piece of advice I heard back then was "don't get a boyfriend right away, play the field." Of course, being the serial monogamist that I am, I didn't listen. And got a boyf faster than most students unpacked their boxes.

  • MTV Battles The Freshman 15

    MTV Battles The Freshman 15

When we heard about the casting call for MTV’s reality show Freshman 15, we might have peed our pants a little. What could be more fun than watching freshman battle the bulge on national television (laughter, tears, and more than one beer and nacho binge guaranteed to ensue)? We are suckers for anything MTV, especially when it includes vulnerable freshies and crack-the-whip personal trainers.

The 10 Types of Freshmen You’ll Meet On Campus

To really be prepared for your freshman year you should get familiar with the people that will surround you on a daily basis. Will your roommate be a Loner or a Homesick Child? Will your lab partner be an Athlete/Ultimate Fan and therefore too busy checking on player stats and scores to write the chemistry report with you?

Countdown to College: Dorm Buys to Lust After

The time is not yet ripe for incoming college freshmen to begin shopping for their dorm rooms, as many of us don’t even have our room assignments yet. But since I’m suffering from acute Senioritis and have nothing else better to do, I’ve taken to scouring the Internet for the best dorm buys.

  • Everything I Need to Know I Learned My Freshman Year

Everything I Need to Know I Learned My Freshman Year

Now that I’m halfway done with my college career, I anticipate all the bright eyed and bushy tailed freshmen about to invade the dorms and use fake-id’s at all my favorite bars. Putting myself in their shoes, I wish that someone had been there to give me advice for my college career (all I got was my Mom telling me not to hook up with any fraternity boys until Spring semester).

  • Countdown to College: Ready for Change. Sorta…

Countdown to College: Ready for Change. Sorta…

The times, as Bob Dylan says, they are a-changin' for those of us counting down the days until obligatory public schooling ends. While change has been the topic on everyone’s mind since second semester senioritis kicked in, it didn’t quite hit me until last Friday, the official college decision day.
