We're celebrating at CC HQ!
As we mentioned yesterday, people around the globe will be celebrating One Day Without Shoes today by taking off their shoes to raise awareness for the millions of children who are forced to go barefoot every day. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read our interview with TOMS shoes founder and Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie, right here.
One Day Without Shoes is such a simple yet powerful idea to bring attention to such an important issue. According to Blake, when you take off your shoes “people are going to ask you why in the world are you not wearing shoes? And that’s your chance to really be an activist, to really talk about the millions of children around the world who don’t have a choice.”
We were so inspired by Blake and his mission that we decided to get involved. So we bought yet another pair of TOMS (I mean, come on, how cute are these?) And then we decided to take it one step further. And by “one step” we mean “a giveaway.” Read More »

If you don’t know what TOMS shoes are, something is wrong with you. Seriously, even my mom has a pair. And she’s 60. I have 5 pairs. My best friends each have 2. And every time I’m anywhere, I spot at least 5 other people wearing them.
Like North Face fleeces and Burt’s Bees lip balm, everyone’s got some TOMS, and for good reason: they’re super cute, they go with everything, and, duh, every time you buy a pair, TOMS donates a pair to a child without shoes in South America. Now that’s a fashion staple I can get behind!
So you can imagine my excitement when I was offered the opportunity to talk to Blake Mycoskie, the man behind my favorite footwear. (And if you can’t imagine it, it was basically me jumping around the room and calling everyone I know to brag about it, then going to the TOMS website and ordering another pair.) Not only is he super smart and just a cool guy to talk to, but Blake’s passion for changing the world is infectious.
Read on to hear the story behind TOMS, what’s coming next, and the mega-easy way you can get involved with One Day Without Shoes, which is happening tomorrow, April 5th! Read More »

American Pride Doesn't Have to Look Like This
Fourth of July is here! Commence drinking, hot dogs, drinking, and singing “Bye Bye Miss American Pie” and maybe burning your hand on sparklers (which I don’t care how old I get, they will always be so freakin’ cool).
I’ve already given you recipes for the bbq you’ll be hitting, and now we have one more thing to tackle: the Fourth of July ‘fit.
You need to look somewhat festive (i.e. I don’t suggest your skull tank or vintage “I love Canada” tee) but you don’t want to look like a walking advertisement for the US of A. I’ve got you covered: from red, white and blue festive to festive without being decked in the colors of our homeland, you will look like those American Girls that all those foreign boys (and the Counting Crows) talk about. And you will be ready to pull a Miley and Party in the USA. Woot woot. Read More »

Dear “The Situation” (if that’s even your real name),
You have nice abs. We get it. But don’t you think maybe it’s time to put a shirt on? At the beach on the Jersey Shore, it’s okay. But at the gym when you’re all sweaty, it’s unsanitary. And at the Grammy’s!?!? Do I even have to explain that one?
At first I thought maybe you couldn’t afford a shirt (especially the bedazzled Ed Hardy variety that you JS boys prefer) and contemplated starting a fund for you. Like what Tom’s doing with shoes, but with graphic tees. But then I learned how much you make for (often topless) appearances and realized that it’s not a financial issue at all. It’s just…you.
Listen, I admire what you’ve got goin’ on, especially compared to some of the guys I’ve seen who’ve had a few too many late night burritos, but I have a great ass and you don’t see me walking around in assless chaps everywhere I go! Get what I’m sayin’, brah?
So please, Sitch, put on a shirt. You just might gain a little respect. Emphasis on might.
Love,
CollegeCandy

If you haven’t heard about TOMS shoes yet you are really missing out. Not just because the shoes are cute. And not just because the shoes are so comfy it feels like you are walking around campus in slippers. Or on clouds. Or marshmallows. (Hm. I could totally go for a s’more right now… but I digress). But because the premise on which TOMS shoes exists is pretty remarkable.
For every pair you buy, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in a developing country who is in need. And since beginning in 2006, TOMS has given over 600,000 shoes to children in need. Talk about your purchase going to a greater good (and I’m not just talking about the greater good that is you looking totally cute, although TOMS shoes do that too).
So here are four of my favorite ways to rock the TOMS, wherever you may be going. And four pairs for you means four for kids who REALLY need the shoes. Fashion has never felt so good. Read More »

I’ve always been a sucker for charities. I will adopt children world wide for the price of a cup of coffee, I empty my spare change into those little cans that sit on counter tops, and I clean out my closets every spring for goodwill. But sometimes, just sometimes (Yikes, I feel a little guilty even admitting this), I eye a cute pair of earrings and wonder if the kids can wait until my next paycheck.
Of course the warm fuzzy feeling I get after I write a check out to the ASPCA is way better than a selfish purchase, but if I happened to get a bangle bracelet or maybe a new pair of shoes at the same time? Well, then maybe my soul woudn’t feel all weird every time I buy something for myself instead of saving humanity.
Thank God someone finally realized that in our failing economy we can’t all be Angelina Jolie. We can’t always afford to look chic and also cure cancer, save the dolphins and fund inner city schools. And those free sponsor t-shirts just don’t seem to be cutting it anymore. Something has to give and, sadly, more often than not, people go for the goods instead of the doing-good.
But fear not; now you can have your cake and eat it too! (Mmmm, cake!) Below are five companies that feature awesome clothing and accessories that can save the world as well as your conscience. Instead of a free (useless) gift with purchase, its like a free karmic bonus with purchase. Buy something cute and start saving the world! Read More »
