Michelle Williams has had a pretty great year. Between receiving oral from Ryan Gosling and being chosen to play Marilyn Monroe in a critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated film, I’d say she’s probably one of the luckiest ladies in Hollywood. I’ve been a huge fan of hers since she was the tortured girl next door (not named Joey Potter) on Dawson’s Creek, and I love that she is getting so much recognition for her talent and beauty. [Welcome to Celebrity Chic on the Cheap, where our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities (like, duh, Nicole Richie) are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.]
Jessica Szohr totally gets the short end of the Gossip Girl stick. Her character, Vanessa Abrams, is one of thee most obnoxious, insufferable, thoroughly unpleasant characters on the show. Considering how none of those characters are people anyone would want to know in real life, that is quite a feat.
But just because Jessica’s character completely sucks doesn’t mean that Jessica deserves to be as D-list as she is. I mean, she’s dating Ed Westwick, so she’s probably a pretty cool chick. Not only that, but her sense of style is amazeballs. (No joke, are all of the GG actresses must be contractually obligated to be as fierce off set as they are on?) Jessica combines edgy, feminine, and trendy pieces to create a banging, fun, fresh aesthetic that is to die for. Or, you know, to scour discount racks for… Read More »

Emma Watson has come a long way from being that little girl in Harry Potter with the big frizzy mane. She has survived the leap from child star to adult actress relatively gracefully, as the wildest moves she has made recently involve going to an Ivy and chopping her hair into a killer pixie cut.
I want her life.
Emma’s style tends to be spunky, but tailored and obviously well-thought out. She loves glam accessories, and a mix of vintage, classic, and trendy pieces. She has a knack for looking incredibly classy and chic, while also totally age appropriate. And seeing as this leading lady is the same age as many of us, we too can achieve such fashion perfection. Even better, we can do it on our we’re-in-college-but-don’t-have-millions-of-dollars-from-our-wildly-successful-movie-career budgets. Read More »

It might be my inner journalist talking, but I’ve always been obsessed with trench coats.
This obsession only grew when Burberry put my girl crush, Emma Watson, into their summer ad campaign – looking as lovely as always in some gorgeous trench coats.
Trench coats are classic. Buy one now and you can wear it forever; regardless of trends they will always be chic and sophisticated. There are many options this year, meaning you could splurge on a classic, neutral trench or save on a fun, bright colored coat for spring. Either way, a trench is a must-have in your wardrobe. Not only are they a nice touch over an interview outfit, but trenches are also perfect for over skirts and dresses, meaning you don’t have to freeze (or rely on male chivalry) while wearing your hot little dress.
Long or short, classic or bright, solid or funky, there is a trench coat for everyone. And if, like me, you can’t afford one of Emma’s gorge Burberry coats, there are a million other beautiful options out there that won’t break the bank. Although, it doesn’t cost a thing to sit back in your bed and drool over the rich and Burberry-clad on the Art of the Trench. Read More »

They say April showers bring May flowers – so while we’re waiting for those flowers to bloom and for summer to mosey its long lazy days our way, why not have some rainy springtime fun? I know it sucks when it rains and you have to trek across campus with fingers crossed that your hair won’t frizz, but with these latest styles, at least you can put a little spring in your step.
