There’s no way I could continue to write a fashion column without highlighting Rihanna. This girl is one of the most eclectic celebrities out there. One day, the paparazzi snaps photos of her in suspenders and harem pants; the next, you could easily see her in a body-contouring mini-dress with 6-inch stilettos…going out to lunch.

Rihanna attained her fashionista status by being completely and utterly balls to the walls…how can you not love it?

However, the outfit I’m re-creating today is actually one of Rihanna’s tamer looks, because though you, CollegeCandy reader, are fabulous, you are bound to certain rules of fashion that do not apply to celebrities. Read: you can’t really pull this off for class.  But it’s still hot, not just in its own right, but relative to that tragic gaggle of girls strutting around campus thinking Uggs, leggings, and Northface = high fashion.

To start things off, I gave you two options here. One is a tailored military jacket, similar to the one Rihanna is wearing, but so much cheaper. The other, the gray tweed, is very structured like Rihanna’s coat but in a completely different material (and we all already know tweed is a wonderful addition to anyone’s wardrobe). They both make wonderful additions to this outfit and still maintain the overall look and feel Rihanna’s got goin’ on.

Underneath the jacket is a super warm and comfortable sweater tunic that would just as hot over colorful tights as it would over your favorite pair of jeans. For this outfit, I chose jeggings because they meld to your legs and make it much it much easier to slip into these amazing thigh high boots. I know, thigh-highs have a skanky connotation, but it is so easy to make them modest, and still super sassy. (And, hello, can we talk about these Target boots? Deal. of. the. century.)

Of course, an ensemble inspired by Rihanna must include some totally unexpected element, and in this one, it’s the bright floral hat. I love that the hat from Express pairs stripes with a huge adorable flower, and it adds a touch of whimsy to this otherwise muted and sophisticated look.

I just love purple clothing and accessories for fall.  The deeper and jewel-toned shade you see in stores this time of year are flattering on everyone, and you feel instantly more sophisticated when you wear it (it is the color of royalty, after all).

From Forever 21 to Wet Seal, us gals know where to go for the deals.  Occasionally, though, my quest for cuteness leads me to a website I’ve never heard of that has some great finds, like this one: Heavenly Couture.  Nothing on this site is over $17.95. Nothing!

Really, with a claim like that, can you go wrong?

Here are a few of my favorite finds.

This top will look darling with a pair of leggings and some riding boots.  Perfect for a day at the mall or chillin’ out on campus.

This blouse is professional enough to wear to work or your fab internship, but sexy enough (unbutton a few extra buttons!) to wear out for de-stressing drinkies with the girls or a dinner date with that hot new guy.

The nearly A-line shape of this romper will look good on just about any body type. And I know it may be a bit too soon to be loading up on shorts and tanks, but you could work it with a pair of tights, or just put it in your Spring Break wardrobe wish list. It’s always good to have some inspiration for those leg/arm workouts.

There are three things I am loving about this cardigan: 1) It’s a cardigan, so it’s perfect for all seasons. 2) It’s bright fuchsia, which is just gorge. 3) The big buttons and hip pockets add some adorable flair.

Workout clothes can get so damn expensive, but why? Who needs $100 yoga pants when you can get a perfectly good pair for $10? I guarantee your butt will look just as good Downward Dogging in these.

Great earrings for under $10? I’m in.

Yup, those are dark wash skinny jeans for only $12. Take one reader’s advice and pick up some studs, sew ‘em on, and make yourself a pair of super hot rocker jeans for under $20.

This tunic’s super low cut top allows you to sex it up for a night out on the town (add black skinnies and a pair of booties – divine!), or add a cami underneath and you’ve got an ensemble that’s acceptable for brunch with the ‘rents.

I’m pretty sure there is nothing better in life than a really fantastic sale section. Especially at a store stocked with things you already love. Take home some awesome finds on the cheap? Yes please!

Much like Urban Outfitters and Express, Tilly’s is chock full of really cute stuff at a somewhat “affordable” price. But it is in their fabulous sale section where you really hit the fashion jackpot. They’ve got everything from basics to statement pieces to stock your closet, and all of it is ch-ch-cheap. Here are a few items I found to be totally darling and will fulfill your inner frugalista.

Who says thermals have to be unattractive?  This thermal comes in a variety of colors and will not only keep you cozy for those long hours spent in the library, but you’ll look good to boot.

Bereanies (beret beanies) are the perfect solution to keeping your head warm while maintaining your style. And, trust me, these things can work on everybody, so give it a shot.

Two of the biggest trends this season are purple and ruffles and this sweet and flirty top lets you kill two trends with one shirt for under $8. Just pair it with some black skinny jeans and a pair of heels and you’ve got the perfect party look for the season.

If you’re not daring enough for a liquid legging but bored with the basic black, these could be your legging soul mates. The lace running down the side of these not-so-basic black leggings adds a hint of freshness and sex appeal to a typically standard look.

Tired of wearing the same old jeans?  Why not pull on a pair of sailor pants? They’re basic enough to wear every day, but cute enough to add a much-needed change to your same-jeans-all-the-time “rotation.”

I love BF cardis as much as I love me some BF jeans (and my actual BF) and I adore the stripes on this one.  Not only that, there are several colors to choose from and with their $19.99 price tag, you can afford at least a couple of ‘em.

You can’t go wrong with girlie ruffles. Ever. And a belt to cinch your waist? Everyone needs one. This is the perfect skirt for all those holiday parties you are sure to be attending this season. It’s versatile – you can dress it up or dress it down, and it will look cute with flats, booties or some sexy stilettos.

I have a love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters. I fall madly in love with everything on the racks, but hate how much they charge for shirts, skirts and dresses that usually fall apart after a few go-rounds in the washing machine. But then I fall in love again when those trendy little Urban employees stock the sale racks with all that gorgeous goodness.

The Urban sale section might be one of the only ones I’m willing to elbow, shove and push my way through. They have some of the best deals around on some serious cuteness, much of it $19.99 or less! Here are some of my favorite pieces that are all under $20. The best part: you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your couch or tempt yourself with the rest of the overpriced items en route to the sale section.

This dress will look fantastic with some tights and a skinny belt around the middle. Mix it with an oversized cardi or sweater coat and you’ve got a super cute outfit for a night out.

I. Love. Tunics. They’re big, they’re comfy but they’re also painfully chic. You can pair this one with some leggings, a cozy sweater and some knee boots and look put-together yet totally comfortable for class.

I wouldn’t normally classify a sweatshirt as “cute,” but that all changes with this 80′s-inspired number. The shape and zipper give this comfy go-to an instant update, which gives your going-to-class look an instant lift.

Tights are an essential for fall/winter and colored, textured tights are a great way to brighten up an outfit without going overboard.

Purple and studs are both major trends this season, so this shirt (or dress, depending how you see it) is fashion perfection. Slip this on with some leggings, a pair of ankle boots and a leather jacket. Drool.

The perfectly worn-in tank. It’s super soft and comfy, but also slightly see-through and sexy. And if you feel like venturing out into the cold, it comes in lots of other fun colors in the stores.

While most people can’t really pull off a hat like this, I highly recommend you try. It’s pretty much the only hat I’ve seen that will keep your head warm in the winter while also being totally worth the hat hair.

An over-sized envelope clutch is not only a great way to carry all your goods, this one can really make your ensemble with its teal reptile print.

The recession is bad news for anyone looking to get a job, save some money or sell a house. But it’s great news for fashionistas! Stores that were once dowdy and just screamed “crazy cat lady” are bringing in new designers to create chic lines at lower prices.

Take JC Penney. When was the last time you stopped in there (not counting those post-Starbucks bathroom emergencies)? I know: never. Because their clothes were cheap, outdated and just not cute. Well, that’s not the case anymore! JCP now sells several lines by popular designers (Charlotte Ronson, Nicole Miller, and Allen B. Schwartz, to name a few) and they not only have stuff that is totes cute, it’s totes affordable as well.  I can’t wait to add some of these pieces to my closet…

It’s no secret I am lovin’ all the plaid that’s out right now, and I think this shirt is particularly cute.  Reminiscent of a  lumberjack, with just the right amount of girliness to look feminine and fab.

This skirt is a great addition to your fall wardrobe, as it can be worn bare-legged or with a pair of tights.  Because of the simplicity of the skirt, you can have some fun by amping things up with a funky printed shirt, bold accessories or textured, printed or bold colored tights.

I love the print and details (belted waistline and ruffles) of this dress and, again, it’ll transfer over to colder weather with tights and a cardi or sweater coat.  It’ll look great with flats, boots or a pair of menswear inspired oxfords.

Flowy tanks are not only trendy, they’re versatile and they’re great for these transitional months because you can easily layer with ‘em.  This’ll look especially cute with a boyfriend blazer and the bonus is that you can slip it off when you’re in a warm place and still look totally stylin’.

Fall/Winter is all about neutrals, which means grey jeans are a great way to wear denim with a bit of a twist. You can rock grey with black or the popular jewel tones of the season.  And hey, who doesn’t love jeans that are under $15?

Winter is fast-approaching and soon it’ll be time to bust out the scarves, mittens and hats soon.  Houndstooth is a timeless print that translates over for every season and is a great way to add a bit of oomph to your cold weather ensemble without going overboard. And you can get it in four different colors, which makes it that much cooler.

I’m all for wearing an all-black ensemble out to the bar, but only if there is something fun and fabulous to spice it up. Like this bag. Snakeskin, a metal handle, and a hot mixture of gold and black is the perfect combo to add some va-va-voom to your otherwise neutral look.

There’s nothing that puts a smile on my face like finding a fantastic bargain, and since we all wanna look good in a crappy economy, finding those deals is even more important these days.  Each week I’ll feature one store/website where you can find eight A-dorable items for under $20 (not too shabby, right?).

This week the store of choice is Wet Seal.  Not only does it have cute and trendy clothes on the cheap, if you order from the website there’s a flat rate shipping fee of $5, which you can order just by clicking on any (or all!) of the items below.

Plaid is a super current trend that will only get bigger in the fall, and this tunic button down is the perfect way to rock it out.  The cut will accentuate curves so you’ll avoid looking like a lumber jack and this style will look cute with a pair of denim shorts/denim mini while the weather’s still warm, or with a cute pair of skinny jeans or leggings come fall.

This checked mini is adorable and will easily roll over into fall with a pair of tights and booties.

And, as a major bonus, it’s probably the most versatile piece you can add to that wardrobe. It looks cute for day with a pair of gladiator sandals, sexy for night with some heels,  and it’ll easily translate into your fall wardrobe with tights and boots.

Flats are an essential in any girl’s shoe collection and it’s fun to have a pair or two that aren’t just your basic color to add a fun accent to any outfit.  The buffalo plaid print will add some kick (pun intended) to any ensemble and will look totally darling with a pair of black skinny jeans.

Basic tees are a staple in every wardrobe.  I’m a personal fan of v-necks as they let you go casual without giving up the sexy. At $3.99 a pop, you can grab this one up in every color.

Hats are a great way to add flair to a simple look (por ejemplo: jeans, a basic v-neck tee and some Chuck Taylors) and a crocheted beret is perfect for fall and winter.

You can’t go wrong with a simple sheer scarf to punch up an outfit and keep those hickeys covered. And at only $3, you can easily justify buying a different one for every day of the week.

Fall merchandise will be arriving in stores over the next few weeks, and while it may be tempting to run out and get a whole new back to school wardrobe, don’t! Wait for sales to begin, and shop in your closet instead.

One item that the majority of college girls have in their closets are leggings. The great thing about leggings, like this pair by Plan B from Bloomingdale’s, is that they can be worn with practically anything. Here are three outfit ideas that use leggings to take your summer outfits into fall:

1. Pair a summery tank top with leggings and a cropped jacket for a a chic yet simple fall look. The tank will keep the look from getting too severe, but the jacket is there to warm those shoulders (seeing as the temps will drop into cold territory quite fast). For shoes, pick flats, ankle boots, or knee-high boots.

[I want it, I need it, I can’t live without it. There are so many things on store shelves and racks right now that we want to take home and hang in our closets. Things that are so cute, everyone should know about them. We’ll share ‘em with you here (because we’re that nice), but as far as actually getting them goes….well, you’re on your own with that one.]
