Proposition 8 was overturned, and now we have to see that lesbian comedienne Ellen Degeneres as the new face of JCPenney? Where on EARTH will I shop now? Ladies, we’ve got to do something about this. Let’s protest that crazy talk show host so that her homosexuality doesn’t taint all our kids’ back-to-school clothes and our Christmas shopping.

Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating the thought process of a member of One Million Moms, a conservative group that’s got their high-leg briefs in a twisted bunch because out and proud Ellen Degeneres is the new JCPenney spokesperson. The group issued a statement following the company’s announcement:

“Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful…By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon, JCPenney is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years.”

Fox News contributor Sandy Rios, who supports the One Million Moms perspective, summed up this week’s Hot Button Issue while on The O’Reilly Factor: ”The problem is that Ellen DeGeneres has chosen to act out her lesbian lifestyle and marry her partner, it’s what that represents,” she said. “And the fact that JCPenney is supposed to be middle America, the place where families shop…and people who believe that marriage is between a man and woman and children should not be exposed and propagandized in homosexuality have a moral problem with that.”

Well I’m sorry, Sandy, and the members of One Million Moms, but America—the land of opportunity, the land of the free and the home of the brave—is changing. And for the better. Thank goodness it’s been allowed to change, or else women would never be able to proudly make a buck in any workplace and we’d still stupidly have slaves everywhere who each only count as three-fifths of a person. Though the country has managed to acknowledge the basic human right of being considered an entire person to these minority groups, why can’t such a given be also applied to those who aren’t perfectly heterosexual? Those who choose to be both free AND brave?

If you’re protesting Ellen’s employment with JCPenney, you’re asking that the company discriminates based on her sexual orientation. Hm, discrimination definitely sounds like one of “the negative influences our children are forced to contend with”—you know, the part of society’s “filth” that you should be working to fight, rather than avoiding the hilarious and kindhearted Ellen Degeneres and every product she’s ever endorsed. I’m guessing you’re missing out on the greatness that is CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara and the daily dose of awesome on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Oh man, your kids must have never even seen the movie Finding Nemo! Do you tell them that they can’t go on the Submarine Voyage ride at Disneyland because that funny blue fish is the voice of an evil lesbian?!

Oh, and by pushing Ellen down and calling her names, you’re being a bully. That’s right, One Million Moms, all 40,000 of you are guilty of anti-gay bullying.

Thankfully, the group’s protests and cries were no matter for the department store, as the company stood behind their decision. And yesterday, the free and brave Ellen Degeneres addressed her haters and, therefore, her motivators, on her talk show. ”I’m proud and happy to say that JCPenney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson. Which is great news for me because I also need some new crew socks.”

On a more serious notes, she continued, “I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me…Here are the values I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for.“

To be honest, I’m surprised that One Million Moms even had the time to jumpstart a JCPenney protest. The group has also requested action against Macy’s, ABC’s Modern Family and Mattel. Don’t shop at Target for promoting the destructive program that is Degrassi, don’t watch Dancing With The Stars because the show “aired a definition of ‘transgender’” and don’t support Ben & Jerry’s because of their “tasteless” ice cream flavor names. Thank goodness—that means there’s more Schweddy Balls for me!

Simon Cowell might be a jerk, but he sure is good at making popular TV shows. He’s the man behind American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and The X Factor, along with about a million other shows internationally. And he’s just announced that his newest project will be a DJ competition show.

Simon is teaming up with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith to create the show. Apparently, BET has already had a similar series running for two years. But Simon is talking to bigger networks like Fox and NBC to try and make this idea his next big thing. He says that “DJs are the new rockstars,” and that he wants to make DJs just as famous and recognizable as pop stars.

This week, Pat Sajak admitted that he and Vanna White used to party pretty hard in the classic days of Wheel of Fortune. Back in November (that seems so long ago now that it’s 2012), NBC put its stellar comedy, Community, on an indefinite hiatus. Fans were outraged and many have been campaigning to “Save Community” since the announcement. The fate of the show has been extremely unclear since NBC execs are ignoring the situation.

Well, you’ve been waiting, and it’s finally happening! Community is officially coming back to your television this spring, according to NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt. Don’t get too excited though because there’s no news yet of a fourth season. While Community’s fanbase is dedicated, it doesn’t pull in the big numbers like NBC’s other shows. Community was pulled to make room for NBC favorite 30 Rock.

If you’ve ever seen the show, you know it’s smart and requires viewers to think. Why is this a problem? People just don’t like to think while they’re watching TV. It reminds me a lot of Arrested Development’s demise. That was the smartest show on television at the time, and its fans were die hard. But people didn’t get it so it got the boot. It seems the same thing is happening here with Community’s strange plots and alternate timelines.

With all of the drama surrounding the hiatus, I think fans will rally and bump up the ratings upon its return. Chuck fans saved their beloved characters from cancellation multiple times and got the show a goodbye season. The same could definitely happen here.

As if we haven’t wasted enough time watching the Kardashians, Kendall Jenner has been greenlit for her own Sweet Sixteen special on E!. This is not a drill. I don’t know about you, but I thought Kendall was older than that given the fact that she has a lot oversexed photo shoots. I imagine this is the work of Kim or momager, Kris. I foresee a lot of drama as Kim tries to take over Kendall’s birthday party and try to relive her years just like she did with Kendall’s modeling.

Poor Bruce will be sitting idly with his diamond studs as his baby girl contemplates “whether or not she should get a belly ring or a tattoo.” Granted, I got a belly ring when I turned thirteen and my first tattoo at sixteen, but neither was aired on national television. Kendall will reportedly also shop for a car, probably something way too expensive for a sixteen-year-old. They’re trying to get Kanye West or Nicki Minaj to perform as well. Well color me jealous, my sweet sixteen consisted of dinner at The Melting Pot, a sleepover with my close girlfriends, and a trip to Six Flags.

I have to wonder at what point the Kardashians will take over E! or leave and create their own network like Oprah. It’ll be the Kardashian Khannel! All Kardashians all the time. That’s basically what E! is now anyway. And you know what this means. Kylie is going to have a special when she turns sixteen, too. Thank heavens there aren’t anymore kids. Oh wait, baby Mason! He’s obviously going to have some perks eventually. It’s never going to stop. Prepare yourselves.

One of the best parts of fall TV is the fall Halloween specials. Apparently almost every.single.show. on TV is going to be doing a Halloween episode this fall. Maybe there will even be a Hoarders where the woman’s house is filled with candy corn and pumpkin seeds. Just kidding, her house will probably be filled with dead animals (cliche hoarder).

I’m a pop culture junkie who just graduated from college, moved to LA and rediscovered the magic of television. Because seriously, who has time to keep up with the Kardashians—or any of our favorite celebrities—amidst midterms, internships, rush week and grad school applications? Well from now on, I’m gonna make sure that you do.

Here’s the deal: while you’re out slammin’ shots with friends or cuddling with your summer lover (made it all the way to October—congrats!), I’m spending Friday nights with my eye on the silver screen and my ear on the red carpet. Be sure to scroll through CollegeCandy on Saturdays for breaking Hollywood headlines and regretful celebrity blunders that will make you feel a BILLION times better about that vengeful morning hangover.

So maybe it’s not fair that I don’t like Dane Cook because he annoys me. He really isn’t the annoying one. It’s all the bros (and girls that want to be like bros) who are annoying. I think a comedian’s jokes should only be allowed to be said by the comedian, because they are obviously the funny one. Not the frat guy toasting to Dane Cook before shot-gunning a beer. So maybe I’ll give Dane another chance next year, because love him or hate him, he will be back on our TVs.
