Today, #ThingsThatAreSexy is trending on Twitter. And I learned a very important lesson from this educational hashtag. Basically, whatever you might wear, do or say, someone in the world (or at least on Twitter) will find it sexy. Really. There were some sweet ones, some funny ones, and some just plain weird ones.

Kanye West was a very busy man in the wee hours this morning. While you were snuggled up safely in your bed, Mr. West was blowing up Twitter with a major announcement and more than a few personal beliefs. If you missed the brilliantly epic rantings of a potentially-mad man, fear not! Every so often Jimmy Fallon gives his own personal State of the Union to tweeting Americans on the Twitterverse. These not-so-presidential addresses take the form of #FallonMono’s and we couldn’t be happier that Fallon’s at it again, this time with #NewHolidaySongs.

‘Tis the season to be jolly!

Lucky for us, ABC will probably air the 25 Days to Christmas countdown tonight (or did they start it already and I’m already behind?) and that means, for those of us that haven’t contributed yet, we’ll get a quick refresher on all things Christmas (including the carols)!

We decided to shout-out all the funny guys out there who’ve joined Santa Fallon on commandeering some new holiday classics for us!

The internet has been flooded with news and speculation surrounding the Penn State scandal. Everyone is talking about it, even celebrities. In case you missed it, Ashton Kutcher had a serious foot-in-mouth situation when he tweeted, “How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste.” He apparently had not been informed of the situation and later deleted the tweet and apologized. Ashton has since turned over his twitter account to his managers.

Then we had the #LadiesWeWantAnswers trending topic issue where there were a lot of pretty offensive and stupid questions asked. I was blown away by some of the tweets I read. There are some people who would be really embarrassed if their boss or grandmother saw their tweets. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them got in trouble for it.

It got me thinking about Twitter etiquette. There are some snarky things that I really want to tweet, but stop myself because I think about if my future employers are going to see it. So I thought we should go over some basic Twitter rules.

Grammar: Just because you only have 140 characters does not mean the laws of grammar go out the window. You should still use proper grammar as much as possible because you’ll look like a fool if you don’t. Know the difference between your (possessive) and you’re (you are), their (possessive), they’re (they are), and there (place). While abbreviations are wonderful, please take the characters to spell out you instead of “u”. Text speak isn’t cool anymore.

Pictures: Twitpics are awesome for showing your followers what you’re up to. However, stick to appropriate photos. There’s no need to tweet pictures of your cleavage or your butt (I’m talking to you Coco). We really don’t want another Anthony Weiner problem on our timelines. If you’re going to send sexy pictures, don’t do it online.

Don’t be a jerk: Some of the funniest tweets are pretty mean, but they’re often from anonymous accounts like @Lord_Voldemort7. If you’re using your real name and your tweets aren’t protected, it’s in your best interest to keep it classy. If you really want to be a sassypants then create an account under a pseudonym, and go for it.

Don’t tweet about people: Someone from class or work really irked you today, so you decide to post a passive-aggressive tweet about them or what they did because you know they’re following you and will see it. This is a bad idea. The other person will see said tweet, which will only create more drama for yourself. Or someone else will see your tweet and think it’s about them, which will also create more drama. Avoid this.

Don’t air your dirty laundry: Twitter is not your diary. Sure I’ve posted about having a bad day, but I don’t spill my life story and neither should you. You don’t need to tweet about every single thing going on in your life, just like you don’t need to constantly update your Facebook statuses.

Twitter and other social media outlets are great, but use them wisely. With social media being so prominent, employers are checking to see what you’re up to. It’s best to keep things clean to avoid any issues. You don’t want to get called into your boss’s office because you tweeted something inappropriate.

Flying high on the release of her new book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, we thought we’d share some of the reasons why Mindy Kaling is one of our favorite Hollywood funny girls.

Number one reason to love her: She tweets and tumbls about her favorite affordable products. When was the last time someone in Hollywood actually decided to give a damn about what us common folk like. Number two reason: She’s on The Office, which is probably the only television show that has consistently made me laugh. Number three reason to like her? She loves Beyonce. I love Beyonce. If she can like what I like then hell, I might as well try to marry this girl.

The Republican presidential debate this Wednesday featured all the candidates, but somehow it became a two person throw-down: former frontrunner Mitt Romney versus new guy Rick Perry.  Mitt Romney was a well-acknowledged favorite for the Republican nomination until about a month ago, when Texas Governor Rick Perry came charging into the race. At the debate, Romney talked about his plan to boost jobs, and Perry attacked Social Security, calling it a “monstrous lie” and a Ponzi scheme. A third, unlikely, leader also emerged during the debate: the former Governor of Utah Jon Huntsman, who acted calm, cool and collected throughout. Of course, you can’t put sparring politicians in a room without at least one dramatic event. On Wednesday, this came during a commercial break, when Perry approached Rep. Ron Paul and got all up in his grill: Paul’s supporters are saying Perry assaulted their guy, but Paul says no such thing happened. Bummer.

Twitter announced it has hit the 100-million member mark. I’ve got a Twitter (and trust me, I held out a loonnggg time), College Candy’s got a Twitter, College Candy’s intern’s got a Twitter, even the whale at the Museum of Natural History has got a Twitter! The point is, the site, which was recently valued at over $8 billion, won’t stop growing. 75% of NBA players, 82% of Congress (which no longer includes the penis-pic tweeting Anthony Weiner), and 87% of the Billboard Top 100 Musicians tweet actively, and those numbers will surely get closer and closer to 100% as the site continues to grow.

President Obama addressed Congress Thursday night, urging them to pass his $447 billion to boost jobs and the economy. The legislation, called the American Jobs Act, would include tax cuts, extension of unemployment benefits, infrastructure spending (on things like roads and expanding Wi-Fi access) and other measures to help the economy, because it clearly still needs help. Even though Obama emphasized over and over that every facet of his bill had bipartisan support and would not increase the federal deficit, Republicans didn’t even merit the thing with an official response. Many commentators loved the speech, however, because of Obama’s serious, get-it-done ‘tude. “After months of being a negotiator, Obama finally looked like a president,” said E.J. Dionne, Jr. of The Washington Post. A good thing, if he has any hopes of winning that second term.

The media tracked down a UCLA undergraduate who’s spending his summer not at an internship, or playing video games, or taking classes… but fighting as a rebel in the Libyan revolution. Chris Jeon, 21, is a math major, and yes I already tried to find him on Facebook and failed, but by all means…maybe your stalking skills are better than mine. “I just… see what happens,” he told reporters from the Christian Science Monitor. “At spring break I told my friends a sick vacation would be to come here and fight with the rebels.” What do his parents think? Well, they didn’t even know he was there (although they probably do now, boy has he got it coming). He’s planning on returning to the U.S. the day before classes start at the end of September.

Texas was officially declared a disaster area this week as wildfires spread across the drought-stricken state. It seems like not even a few days can go by without a devastating, natural disaster making headlines: over 190 wildfires destroyed over 1,500 homes. Near Austin, the fires took out 34,000 acres of land. So far, 17 people are unaccounted for, although they (fingers crossed) could just be out of town. The fires are fortunately largely over, and residents will slowly be making their way back to their homes to survey the damage.

President Barack Obama, along with first lady Michelle and former president George W. Bush, took a moment of silence at the just-opened 9/11 memorial on the tragic event’s tenth anniversary yesterday. The memorial features twin reflecting pools surrounded by the names of the deceased inscribed in bronze where the Twin Towers once stood.
